1. Hi, Rosenzahra, I agree, Macaws have no place in apartments. teresasbirds says: Our Quaker is much louder than our Cockatiels are or our Eclectus ever was. He vocalizes very often, and he is loud.
2. Hi, Madness, Before Spencer, the baby TAG that I am bringing home after the holidays, picked me, I was looking at getting an older bird. The thing that turned me off was none of the owners of the ones that I looked at could give me an avian vet reference. This was essential for me. I am getting Spencer from a bird store that guarantees the health of there birds. They have their birds checked 4 times before sending them to their new homes. In addition, their vet is my avian vet, so I am sure he's healthy. Anyway, point is, with whatever bird you get, at least get a vet reference.
3. Hello, I heard from my friend today We are set up to see Spencer Friday :cheer: Sallas, what is the name of your breeder? Ralph
4. Hello, I haven't been able to get a hold of the person who has taken us to go see Spencer for a few days now:( She has kids in school and is an interpreter for a deaf teacher. I can't see the schools being off for Christmas this soon, so I doubt they're on vacation. It just seems that she's blowing me off We leave for Wisconsin the 22nd, and I'm afraid I won't get to see him before we go. We'll be gone until Jan 7. A cab would cost $80 round trip. Thanks for listening
5. Thanks, SchroedersJen!
6. Hi, Chris, We know what it's like to loose a feathered kid. We got Poco, our Eclectus, when she was 4 months old. She passed away shortly after turning 2. Take time to grieve. I know you have a void in your heart, but it will get better. Harley will always live in your heart and memory. We are very sorry for your loss.... Ralph and Dotty
7. Hello, This duck goes into this bar and asks the bartender "got any soup?" The bartender said "this is a bar, we have no soup" Next day, the duck goes into the bar and asks the bartender "got any soup?" The bartender said "I told you, this is a bar, we have no soup" Next day, the duck goes into the bar and asks the bartender "got any soup?" The bartender said "I told you, this is a bar, we have no soup. You come in asking for soup again, I'll nail your feet to the floor!" Next day, the duck goes into the bar and asks the bartender "got any nails?" The bartender said "this is a bar, we have no nails" The duck says "got any soup?" 8. I've seen some in the Avian Flair section of BirdTalk... Ralph
9. We have the harness that we used with our Ekkie, and are hoping to use with Spencer. It's the Aviator harness. I think this is good for taking your friend out in a yard or park. I am leary of using it for walks. It has a long leash, so if you're walking on a sidewalk and your friend gets spooked, he could easily land in the street. You also should be aware of predator birds. Luckily, there aren't many predator birds around our apartment's airspace  The Aviator does allow your friend to fly, that's a plus. Ralph
10. Poco, our female ekkie was the sweetest bird I ever met. She never bit me hard. She spoke in context, too! One time she pooped on the floor, Dotty asked her who pooped on the floor, she said, "I did"! Another time, Dotty asked me a question, and Poco said, "Heck if I know"!!! She was very special... Ralph
11. Hi, Kinga, I'm in the same boat you're in with waiting for waiting for your baby to come home. My baby, Spencer, will be able to come home next week (Thanksgiving), but Dotty and I are going to Wisconsin Dec 22, and coming home Jan 7. Like you, I decided to keep him where he is until we come home. I couldn't see bringing him home for less than a month, having go to another strange place, then back here in a few weeks. It seems like it will be 10 years before he'll be here We just have to hang in there! Ralph
12. I do not like flight suits, as they hold the poop to close to the bird. Poop is just part of having a bird!!! Just my 2 cents worth. Ralph

Our other FIDs

Hi, Having a Dove is nice, as Shirley's laugh is funny. She isn't mimicing, but the hens' sound sounds like a laugh  The males make a real soothing koooing sound. As far as I know, Doves don't bite. Shirley isn't big on being held, one of her favorite spots is on the celling fan (it's always off)! In fact, she'll fly around the room and land on the fan so it spins!! When Lindsay was introduced, he was nippy toward the other FIDs, but he's okay with them now. Shirley LOVES him!!! She has to go wherever he (or she) is! Shirley is also friends with Jim Jim. Twinkle and Jim Jim are mating, that will be a new adventure, as I've never bred birds! Ralph
14. Hello, Here are Spencer's brothers and sisters! The Normal Grey tiel is Twinkle, the Lutino tiel is Jim Jim, the Dove is Shirley, and the Quaker is Lindsay.

Post edited by: oppie, at: 2008/11/15 07:44

Bonding 'tiels

Hi, Pat, We have moved Twinkle and Jim Jim to the same cage now  Ralph
16. Hello, Thank you!!! We are going back after the 21st! I can't wait! Ralph
17. Thank you! I can't wait to get him home! It seems like 15 years until he comes home! Ralph
18. Hello, We saw Spencer last night! We stayed with him for 2 hours! He stayed on my lap for most of the time. He has almost all of his feathers in now. He's 5 weeks old now, and is a bit nippy. Is this normal at this age, or is he going to be a nippy little man? We could pet him, though. I carry a bag next to me in my chair, and when he got tired, he stuck his little head between me and the bag and tried to go to sleep! I wanted to keep him there all night, but thought he should go back to his cage for a nap OK - Pics! Sorry if they are huge, I selected medium on photobucket.

Bonding 'tiels

Hey guys, We don't know anything about raising babies. Spencer is really the last bird that we have room for. If we could sell them, that would be fine, but I'm worried that we wouldn't be able to. Don't they need to be hand fed to get any kind of money? Becoming a breeder is an awful big step. The male's name is Jim Jim. Ralph
21. Hello, I have two tiels, a male and female in separate cages. I've had them a long time and the female is around 11 years old. They have bonded and mated. When Twinkle lays eggs, she'll sit on them until she gets tired of them. If we just continue to let them out at the same time, will Twinkle learn how to care for the eggs, or not? We do not want chicks, but you can tell they want to be together. Thanks, Ralph
22. Hi, Judygram, I am very excited about Spencer. I hate to wait that long, but it's best to After getting him home, how long should we wait before leaving him. We have no travel plans after our Christmas trip, just curious. Ralph
23. Hello, We are going to see Spencer Tuesday!:cheer: We will get pics! They expect him to be ready to come home shortly after Thanksgiving! However, we are going to wait until after January 7th. We are taking Mega Bus to Wisconsin on December 22, and they don't allow animals. Our other birds (Jim Jim, a male Cockatiel, Twinkle, a female Cockatiel, Shirley, a white Love Dove, and Lindsay, a green Quaker) are going to my Cousin's. I don't think it would be good for Spencer to leave The Bird Shoppe, go to a new home for a few weeks, then go to another new place that has an Umbrella Cockatoo, two cats, and one dog. We could board him at The Bird Shoppe, but we have problems getting there as neither Dotty or I drive, and the bus doesn't go there (don't worry, it goes to our avian vet, though!) Can't wait to see him again!! He's in his own cage now!!!! Ralph
24. I feel right at home with you guys!!!! ROTFLOL Ralph
