  1. Thanks Casper, I have a night light because of my Tiel. I think i'm going to try covering her cage at night.
  2. About an hour after going to bed last night Hershey flipped out on me. I know that tiels have night frights so I am wondering if Greys do also. She didn't hurt herself but I had to sit up with her for about an hour afterwards before she would go back into her cage. When trying to put her back in she grabbed onto my hand hard. As anyone ever experienced this? Maybe something just scared her but it really worries me.
  3. I have had many tiels over the years. Only my males ever talked but the females carried a tune better it seemed. I only have Elvis left. I rescued him from a nasty neighbor who abused him so I have no faith he ever will but he still a great bird!
  4. Hershey has a huge facination with my ring. I thought she was going to rip my finger off trying to get it the other night. I now take it off when I handle her.

I started spraying Hershey the second day. I take her into the bathroom and lightly spray her until she seemed agitated and then quit. Last night she got so excited when she saw me spraying Elvis and had no fear getting onto the towel rack. Little at a time worked great for her.
  6. It's possible, it also could be that airlines are changing rules constantly or the ticket agent was misinformed. I will double check with the city manager. He owes me lunch so I will ask him tomorrow and let you know.
  7. At one time I had 6 tiels and some keets. I never intended to have that many birds but when I was offered a bird I knew was not being taken care of I could not help myself! In the end I was spending a lot of money on vet bills and spending to much time with the birds and not enough time with my kids. My now ex-wife had to point it all out to me. In retrospect, I should have kept the birds! So now i'm down to my TAG and my Teil and plan on keeping it that way.
  8. For anyone that is still interested I work for an airline and since I happen to be at the airport today I decided to do some checking for you all. US Airways allows birds in cabin for 100 dollars, Continental does not allow birds unless you go through cargo, i'm not sure about Delta yet there was nobody at the ticket counter. I can check others if you need me to. I pretty much know eveyone at the ticket counters here in El Paso.
  9. I keep my Tiel (Elvis) lightly clipped so that if he does take off he can gluide and not drop like a rock. I plan on doing the same with Hershey.

  11. Wow! What great information all. Thanks!!! This information will come in handy being newley adopted by my CAG:P
  12. I personally will clip mine even though I wish I did not have to. My ceilings are very high in my home. I lost one of my cockatiels when he flew straight up hit the ceiling and came crashing to the tile floor . He was 8 years old. Now I keep my birds clipped for saftey reasons.
  13. Wanted to give an update while I have a moment. I picked up Hershey Friday afternoon. She is sooo sweet. I opened the crate and she immediatley got on my hand and went straight to my shoulder. She came with a note from the breeder that said they named her Hershey because she was so sweet and loves to give kisses. About an hour after I got her home I found that to be true. She was on my shoulder and when I turned my head to look at her she laid one on me, so I have decided to keep the name since it fits her personality. The vet gave her a clean bill of health, although she is missing a toe nail on 1 foot. Not sure how that happened. Turns out she also still requires 1 hand feeding a day which I was not aware of when I bought her. The vet gave me some food and showed me how to mix it and feed her. Cant wait to post some pictures of her. Sorry for the book guys, I could have gone on all day!
  14. Very excited, I took the day off and have rearranged the room 3 times now trying to make sure everything is just right, called the vet to make sure my appointment is still on for tomorrow, sat down with Elvis (my cockatiel) and explained to him there will be a new baby in the house. I think he took it well actually, or maybe he was just more interested in the millet I had in my pocket.
  15. Hi all, Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm not only new to the forum but will be getting my first grey tomorrow afternoon. She is being shipped by a breeder in Oklahoma. I'm excited and a little nervous since my experience with birds is limited to my Cockatiels. I have been reading the forums over the last few days and can honestly say I feel much more at ease after reading the large amount of information that has been posted here. Everyone here seems very open and willing to give advice. Hope to share some stories of my own in the very near fulture!
