  1. I just brought home Darcy, my 3.5 mo old Grey this weekend. I highly suggest you put down something soft on the bottom of the cage for your baby to land on when he/she falls. Darcy fell twice this weekend  and I was glad to have the pillows and blankets on the bottom. I did cover them up with newspapers. I have a double Macaw cage for Darcy and on Saturday evening I put in the divider and many perches at different heights. He hasn't fallen since then.:cheer:
  2. Hi LindaMary -- I'm fairly new to the forum as well. Welcome to the group!

    chains

That's a great swing set! I don't have experience with this yet, however in all the various books I have read and the various sites on the web, I know that some people will thread rope through the chain, so that the toes can't be caught. It may take up a little less rope than you have used. But, your solution looks great to me .
  4. I appreciate your comments. I've never had to argue so much with a company before. I'm attaching (or at least attempting to attach) a picture of the crack. It isn't much now, but over time who knows what it would do.
  5. I really couldn't believe how rude they were. I actually had to go so far as to threaten to pull the MC charge if they didn't make a guarantee. I know I'm from the south so I expect a bit more in customer service, but that was so far beneath my expectations - so what can you do?????
  6. I should also add, that maybe I need to go back and change one of my posts....
  7. Strictly speaking, debates are held by 2 or more parties in which each party takes a diffent stance and then each points out the merit of his/her stance. Debating is above arguing:laugh: A good debate can be very exciting. However, I do remember wanting to debate the pros and cons of a previous president with a former boyfriend's father -- but that didn't turn out so great! He took it too personally.......
  8. If you don't know definately that the bird bit her, it could be something else. Small dogs (of which I have 3 and work with a maltese rescue), can jump down and have their patella (knee cap) out of place when they do this. Then their back hurts very much and they will limp. If the patella didn't come out, they may have strained their back. This has happened twice for me with my peke-a-poo and once for my maltese. I ended up having to have knee surgery on both. So, if you don't know for sure about the bird bite, I would take her to the vet. If you have some baby aspirin, you can give her 1/2 a tablet - maybe hidden in cheese, to see if that relieves the pain. hth.
  9. You should never buy a parrot before it is weaned. On June 21st at a bird expo in Nashville, a vendor was selling 2-3 week old CAG. There were two there and I purchased my toys and left the expo. Something made me go back and purchase the birds. they were taken to the vet immediately. They were severely dehydrated, had bacteria infection and on and on. The littlest one would have died by Monday followed by the larger one on Tuesday if not having been to the vet immediately. An experienced person is now weaning the babies. However, the larger one must have been force-fed with the food going directly into his stomach and by-passing the crop. He doesn't know how to eat because of this and it takes almost an hour to get enough food in him now. African Greys can take up to 20+ weeks to wean. Selling birds before they are weaned is illegal in all but 11 states. I wouldn't recommend buying from this breeder.
  10. Has anyone experienced any problems in dealing with the folks at prettyparrot.com? I'm very disgusted with them. I ordered a floor stand (and other items) and they are very beautiful and better than what I thought they would be. My problem is that there is a small crack at the bottom of one of the sides (caused by them putting in a screw that was probably tightened too much). This is a screw that is put on by the 'factory', it isn't one that I screwed in. I'm concerned that over time, this will worsen and spread, causing the floor stand to break on one side and become unusable. They will not even consider that they may have packed a piece that had a flaw in it. They have been very nasty and rude to work with. I finally got them to write a note that if it doesn't hold together for a year they would replace the part. However, they still insist that I dropped the part and cracked it. They sent it out without any instructions on putting it together and when I called about that, jane the person who answered ranted about nothing going right -- people aren't getting their orders -- they are getting other items that different folks ordered, etc. Their product is wonderful, but I don't think it's worth putting up with what they consider customer service. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same experience.
