Our House Rules!!! (as stipulated by parrots)
Patsy replied to Luvparrots's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
love it! -
What a Hoot:laugh: . I'll have to see if I can start training Darcy like that!

What a great store manager! Watch out Veggies!:side:

Darcy tried with the velcro but didn't get very far with it. I think they usually put enough velcro on the suit, according to size, to keep the birds from pulling it open.

Wow, I didn't realize fraud was so rampant. I am fortunate that I don't have the same problems. But, then I have to admit that I am responsible for all the hundreds of things I bought for Darcy. :silly: On a side note I have finally wised up and purchased parts to make toys. Darcy is just over 4 months old. He loves everything I made thus far. There are several sites that give you instructions if you need some inspiration! Here's one: http://www.cheepparrottoysntips.com/.

thanks. I remember seeing a tux there!

Wow! I love the top hat. Where did you get it? I'd like to see if Darcy would wear one!

Avian Fashions recommends changing out the liner or the suit every 3-4 hours. They have a nifty example of how to put on the suit. see http://www.flightquarters.com/how_to.htm There is also a video available. That didn't exactly work for me. I ended up holding Darcy close to my chest with one hand, using the other to get on strap around his wing and foot -- always hoping that the strap would be around the left or right side, and not crossing over to where it didn't belong. Then I would quickly change hands, repeating the step above. Eventually, you can hope to fasten the velcro on the back. Note the pouch is fairly big -- and could hold a lot of poop if you get the pooch lined up correctly. I would say a day's worth of Darcy's would fit in there. I just wouldn't want to keep that much in his suit. I started out using the liner(s) but then the suit seemed awfully bulky. Essentially they are 'kotex thin liners', so you could probably get them cheaper at the store . So all you men, run on out to the store!!! I just ordered a training suit for Darcy from Avian Fashions. They highly recommend putting some kind of 'bitter' spray on the suit where the bird chews. I wasn't sure what she was talking about, but hey, sure, just add it to my order. By the way, The first Monday of each month there is a 50% off item. You have to call them to get the special. The special for today is a fleece flight suit in charcoal grey, deep blue or deep purple. Yep, got one of these on my order today. Doesn't really pay to call :side:

Hi Sanggay - Welcome to the group! My Darcy (CAG) is the same age as Koko -- they are so sweet now. I hope it lasts.

There's a guy here at work that has 3 parrots, and all of his are accustomed to their flight suit. Do they love them? I think in his case they may because they only don their suit when they go 'visiting' places and they are used to the leash/suit harness getup. The manufacturer recommends that you make a game of it. I like the option and want to get Darcy used to it so I can take him to friends' houses and not be worried about their reaction to his 'poop'. But then again....I am a newbie!

His other two suits are primarily green -- could be the pink! Ha Ha. too funny!

I feel your pain. My body has been aching as well since I decided it was time to get going. Congratulations on losing 10 lbs!!!! Here's a funny story for you. When I first started taking Pilates, I hurt all over. Soon I was doing 3 mat classes a week and 2 private sessions on the reformer per week. My body hurt all the time. Eventually, I would be sore but not too bad [note this was few years ago!]. One day, a new client came into the studio, and was asking if she would be in a lot of pain later after the class. Dan, the owner, said - "oh no, we do a lot of stretching to relax the muscles afterwards which should minimize the pain. This is Pat. She's been taking lessons for 5 years and you [meaning me] didn't hurt when you started out did you?" I don't know who was more surprised - me at hearing him say that or Dan at hearing my reply "Who are you kidding. Of course it hurt. I soaked in the tub every night, took ibuprofen and used icy hot. I just didn't whine to you about it!" I knew if I whined to Dan, he would make it harder.

Yeah, but he wasn't happy about putting it on -- he stayed mad for about a day.

Maybe this time, the photo will come through!

Last week was the first time I tried putting a flight suit on Darcy, my 4 month old CAG. He does not like his suit! I left it on about 15 minutes and then the next day, when I brought him into the office for the afternoon, I left it on him a bit longer. I'm hoping over time he will accept it. I understand now why there are training suits that are a lot cheaper than the normal ones. The one I've had on him has become his training suit as there are lots of holes in this one now. I'd thought I'd share a photo with y'all![/img]

Hey All, I just realized I responded to a message posted in december, sorry about that.

I see your problem. A 2x2 floor spot can be very small. However, there are exercises that you can do in this spot. First, you can concentrate on flexibility by doing various stretches. You can use an exercise ball for balance and practice bouncing up and down in one spot, using your core to support you. You can also do pushups and other exercises against a wall. You will see the same results after some length of time. I used to teach Pilates and I can give you some exercises to try if you would like. As far as diet, I understand your pain. I just found out a few weeks ago that I have type 2 diabetes. My eating habits have had to change a lot. You can create a well balanced meal for your family, but then try to limit yourself on the portion sizes. For me, that has been the difficult thing to do. However, I will say that since I can't have a lot of sugar any more, the desire to have it has subsided greatly. I would love to help you out. Now about me -- the reason I said I used to teach Pilates is because I had a series of surgeries that left me incapacitated for a couple of years. During that time, I ate my way into a few new sizes. So, yes, I understand the difficulty you are talking about. I'm working on my weight also.

OMG! What a story. I have three small dogs and although Darcy hasn't followed them outside, he has flown right in front of their noses. I can relate to your 'heart attack'!

How sweet. It only goes to show how much time and energy you've put into socializing Max. I can only hope my baby will do the same.

My baby is a bit older - almost 4 months. However, I was fortunate enough to play with Darcy during his weaning- he was out of his box and on the floor exporing all the foot toys. He really enjoys toys now and plays with them in his cage and on his playstand. However, now that he likes being up high, he rarely wants to play on the floor with foot toys, so I have to work with Darcy on that as I want to introduce some educational toys to him. Maybe you can try some foot toys with your baby and see how he likes that. I started out with some very small bagels and toys meant for smaller birds.

Alfie's Mom - I'm so sorry to hear about Alfie crossing the rainbow bridge. My heart goes out to you during this time.
