  1. Lol Janet, JungleDreamz is right, it's the theme tune from the Indiana Jones films!! She knows a lot more than that, but clams up as soon as she sees a camera - she can't whistle and glare at the same time!!
  2. Thanks folks. Now....what can we work on next.....? Suggestions?
  3. Harvey is sooooo brave! And that is a fabulous stand! Harvey must have been a really good boy to get a lovely tree like that!!!
  4. Jill, for misdemeanors she get's around 4 minutes in her own cage. For malicioius bites only she does hard time (ten minutes) in her travel cage with no toys, but I don't use the three strikes policy for bites - it's straight to the slammer!! I'm glad to say though I don't have to do that very often - nasty bites are fewer and fewer - she makes a funny clicking sound when I think she wants to bite but is resisting! Janet, it was a bit of a pain to start with - up and down every two minutes but we were consistant and she's catching on really quick and it's been worth perservering. Deb how long did Bella take to figure that out? I'm amazed how quickly Alfie can learn the stuff she wants to learn!!
  5. Just a bit of fun folks. xx
  6. I just thought I'd share this as it seems to be very effective with Alfi - she knows exactly what it means. When Alfi is doing something she shouldn't be, like chewing the couch or pinching pens I give her three chances to stop and if she doesn't she goes into her cage for a wee timeout. The first time, I remove her from say the desk (with a verbal warning) and put her back on her perch, the second time, I remove her (again with a verbal warning) and take her on an open hand, towards her cage - obviously she flies off and usually goes straight back to her perch. On the third offence I take hold of her and put her in her cage. I don't often get to the length of the cage now with her, so she's def getting the message - it seems to be quite effective. Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfi xx
  7. This is our latest endeavour. It seems to have taken ages to get to the point where I could start teaching her stuff because she just couldn't concentrate!! But she's picking this up really quickly!! She's such a little star - I love her to bits. Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfi xx
  8. Another gorgeous Amazon. Such a pretty face with those vibrant colours. Beautiful.
  9. Glad to hear things are looking a bit more positive. Thanks for the update.
  10. This is such great news Robin. his personality is just going to blossom as he gets more confidence. Well done you for having the patience and dedication to bring this darling little bird through this rough patch. And tell Dixie she's lovely too!
  11. Oh dear Steve, I'm afraid you're right. The human race is doomed! But Jay I do like the sound of problem free pets - as long as we are here we are going to keep them and hopefully problem free pets will mean fewer abandoned, neglected and abused animals there are. A double edged sword this one I think!
  12. Aahh karma to you for letting this little dog stay with you. It sounds like she's having so much fun with your neighbour and her new toys - it's probly what she needs. Dogs are sooo much easier to cope with when they don't have any pent up energy! Good to hear Dorian isn't phased at all. Well done to you for coping so well - good luck for the rest of the visit.
  13. Yes this is lovely. thanks for sharing.
  14. So sad and so true. Thanks for sharing. I've had a right good bubble!
  15. What gorgeous gorgeous birds! I love the top two pics - they're lovely!
  16. I think if I were to get an amazon I would go for a DYH. So I'll say that!
  17. Ahh loverly pic! I've tried Alfie with bones but she's scared of 'em!
  18. Haha - from the title of the thread, I thought this was another amazon of the week until I looked!!

    Broken back?

So good to hear Vree is doing much better Kathryn, thanks for keeping us updated. Hope he continues to improve.
  20. IS not too easy! She wanted the green pen that still had it's ink in it - I tried to persuade her that the blue one (inkless) was better, but she wasn't convinced! My powers of persuasion eventually won out - she took the blue one, played with it for two minutes then doubled back for the green one!!
  21. Phew! I thought for sure the dog was going to get it!! Bernie that boat just looks like a bigger version of yours!
  22. Aw love the shot of charlie and Keeko! Jasper looks like such a sweetie and Tully looks a lot happier now! Great pics Caroline thanks for sharing.
  23. Oh what precious baby photos! He is so sweet! 1) patience and repitition - and pay attention! They need to go around every 15 minutes when they are active so just watch him, and every 15 mins take him to his place and give the poop command. Reward him when he does, and ignore the accidents. 2)not sure on this. 3)so long as your hair is clean and well rinsed it should be ok, but don't let him play with it if there may be products left on it. Alfie loves to play with my wet hair too!! 4)stepping up will come with trust - don't force him, but encourage with treats and praise when he does. treating when he goes back into the cage is also a good thing. Hope this helps - thanks for sharing these lovely photos. x
  24. Acappella wrote: I think you'll be spending the week doing that wether they hate each other or not! It does sound like you'll have your hands full unless you take Jills advise and say no. If you do decide to take her on it might not be that bad. How old is the JR? She might be still young enough that you could teach her something? I took on a colliex when he was 8 years old - he was an avid bird chaser. Now he not only doesn't chase wild birds while we're out on walks, but he doesn't look twice at Alfie when he comes to visit! Secondly - some dogs are a bit like kids, in the way that they always behave better when their parents aren't around!! She may very well behave for you! You know the dog - if you really think it's going to cause trouble you'll just have to be honest with your brother and say you have to do what's best for your babies! P.s. My Mum has a jack russel and she's a huge pain - cute - but a pain, BUT...she's thoroughly trainable - she too can visit without causing mayhem with Alfie! And yes, we do have those relatives who only call when they need something!!!! Good luck with whatever you decide.
