A MUST SEE for anyone who wants or has a parrot
djzenjen replied to SunnyBird's topic in Rescue Bird Haven
That video was very moving... and the full truth! HappyinGreece wrote: I've been following this for a while and it won't end ownership completely. (At least not at first.) Section 3f of the bill states: "Animals Owned Lawfully Prior to Prohibition of Importation- This Act and regulations issued under this Act shall not interfere with the ability of any person to possess an individual animal of any species if such individual animal was legally owned by the person before the risk assessment is begun pursuant to subsection (e)(3), even if such species is later prohibited from being imported under the regulations issued under this Act." I think this would have a bigger impact on breeders and pet stores more than anything. A lot of the mom & pop type stores would be effected and exotic animal places. However, it will save a lot of birds the grief of being a pity buy only to land in a rescue a few years down the road. It breaks my heart to go to the bird fair and see all the babies in cages and tubs. (Even though they are all so super adorable!) Even if this did go through, it wouldn't stop everyone. People would probably just start smuggling birds into the country and/or breeding them under the radar. If you want to read up on the bill and see the status, you can go here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-669 That video has inspired me to try and create my own here with the local rescues in Orlando. I'll see what I can dish up! (Again, that was a great informative video!)

Post edited by: djzenjen, at: 2009/06/24 05:08 -
You've already heard it from them, so I won't repeat it! B) But please let us know what happens and that your baby is OK!

Char wrote: Perdy is 16 years old. She is a female. We adopted her this past January and she is the sweetest thing. She took to me really well (and I think it is because I resembled her previous owner - from height to hair color). Her previous home was a farm, so she can mimic any and every farm animal you can think of!

Outside of work and my FIDs, I am an avid roller skater! I competitively dance and perform on roller skates, and I also play roller derby! I am also in the process of learning how to track race. I love motorcycles. I have a CBR600, but someday wish to upgrade to a GSXR750. My last hobby would be collecting. I have been collecting everything that has to do with TMNT since I was 13. I have one room in the house dedicated to my FIDs, and another room dedicated to my TMNT collection. (LOL) {Communicate-00020110}

Here's Perdy! Mischief enjoying a peanut! Koa & Perdy. Koa's EVIL STARE! Mischief saying "Hello". And yes, sometimes she's a little snooty!

Those are so ADORABLE!

Congo is sooo cute, but I had more fun watching you dance. LOL! :woohoo:

Mischief will fight me for Spaghetti!

she wrote: Did you build that yourself? If so, how did you get the plans to build it? I've been looking into building an aviary in the backyard for my FIDs, but don't really know where to start with the planning process OR materials. As for cages, here is my current setup. (This is the bird room.) First is Mischief's home, then my Amazon and Alexandrian. My dove has a seperate flight cage (no pic).

Post edited by: djzenjen, at: 2009/06/22 00:37

Have bought a 7 year old African Grey... Need help
djzenjen replied to DollyParrot's topic in The GREY Lounge
Congrats on your new Grey! We adopted Mischief when she was 8 years old. We adopted her last June and have now had her for a year. She also does this high pitched BEEP that from point blank can really make your ears bleed. She hasn't heard it for over a year (wherever she picked it up from) and as time passed we have heard it less and less. She still does it, but mostly now when we pick her up. (I think she gets excited and BEEPS.. and that's my fault cause I encouraged her every time she did it while on my hand.) -
HAHA! That last part with her swinging is so awesome! I've never seen that rope swing before. Where did you get it! I would love to get Mischief one of those!

Those are nice!!!! Lucky birds!

It's a fever! I have 4, and that is my limit. But that doesn't stop me from wanting more! So, I go to the bird fairs to get my fix. :woohoo:

This is Gizmo. She is 12 years old. This is Yuki as a aleepy kitten. And Yuki as an adult. This is Baby Girl. She was found in a busy parking lot 15 years ago as a scared fluffy kitten. We lost her to a tumor in 2007, but she is forever remembered.

Usually, Mischief will start to nod off an hour or two after sunset. I never cover her cage, but keep a cover handy in case it's a cold night. She is out until I go to bed anyway, and she has her favorite spots in the bird room where she sleeps until I come in to put her in the cage for the rest of the night.

My father's CAG, Shadow, will reach his foot below the grate to get the newspaper. Every morning he grabs some and sweeps the bottom of his cage with it. The grate doesn't stop him.

I'm getting ready to tackle the same project. I just spent 2 hours on the internet trying to find branches in bulk with no luck. I have the list of approved trees that won't harm the flock, and I think I'm going to hoof it into the woods tomorrow to see what I can find. Wish me luck, and can't wait to see what you came up with!

Every time the bird fair comes to town, I'm there! I LOVE those 5 foot tall perch play gyms that have random branches every where. I just hate the price... I really want to get one of those for my flock, and decided I could build one myself by just screwing a bunch of branches together. So, I'm looking for information on what types of branches I should look for? Is there a procedure after I gather branches? Boiling them, sanding them down, etc? Has anyone else built their own stand? I'd love to build something like this for Mischief... I have a PVC bottom already, and would save a TON if I didn't have to pay for the branches and did my own work. My Amazon LOVES to chew branches. So, I'm looking into something safe that I could possibly get from my yard or the woods? (I have a huge wood lot next to my home.) Thanks for any information!

CUTE! But I have to agree, I think he lipped it!
