1. My Amazon does that. She only puffs around the beak. I've come to learn that it is her way of being relaxed. After about 5 minutes she will being to puff out the rest of her body. I would watch the eyes. if they are pinning like crazy, then I'd consider letting the bird have a moment to himself.
2. Mischief is a real ham! She is an attention hog and when people come over the show starts. The louder we get, the more she talks, and she always surprises me with new words and sounds. She will also dance and wave to people if they go over and say hello to her. She meows like a cat, pops, clicks, and shoots lasers. (lol)
3. One of my Christmas presents was an irobot, and I couldn't wait to try it out. We're in the living room, and it finishes charging so I walk over to turn it on and see what it can do. My Grey was in living room with us on her perch... I turn on the iRobot and looked up at Mischief to see this... I thought it was so cute that I had to take a photo. She walked right over and dunked her head in the seed dish. I think she is a bit nervous of it, which is strange because she is so laid back and nothing usually bothers her. This was so cute, I had to take a photo! Then, of course, I turned off the iRobot and assured her everything was OK. B)
4. I would take her to the vet for a checkup. One of my birds had a similar problem and they found a crop infection, which was causing him to not want to eat. Once the medicine kicked in (about 2 weeks later) he was back to gobbling down the formula again!
5. That is adorable! My father's Grey, Shadow, has a morning ritual as well. She will go to the bottom of her cage, grab some newspaper and proceed to sweep the floor with it for about 15 minutes. It's almost as if she is cleaning her cage. No video, but it's very cute!
6. We adopted her last June. We didn't teach her to dance, she just does it to be the center of attention!
7. Mischief will take her beak and use it to push my hand away if she doesn't want to come out of her cage, or if she doesn't want to go in to her cage. If I try to have her step up again, she does the same thing. If I try it a third time she starts to wonder why I haven't gotten the picture yet and will give my finger a small nibble. It's nothing that really hurts, but I'm sure if I did it again she would break the skin if needed. I never try to force her to do something she doesn't want to do. She is usually good about knowing when I'm leaving or when it is bedtime. I don't take it the wrong way. It's her trying to communicate to me, and I'm not listening!

9. I didn't see a video forum, so if this is in the wrong place please forgive me. I enjoy viewing photos and videos of other birds, so I wanted to share some video of mine as I am able to record bits here and there. So, I recorded Mischief earlier today. All you have to do is cheer her on! Even when strangers come over. What a show off! Hope you enjoy! http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=44109028
10. What a great topic! I see this all the time on Craigslist... It not only happens to birds, but it happens to cats and dogs, too. I'm 28 with no children, and as of right now, I don't plan on having any. (My brother had plenty for the entire family!) However, if in the future I decided to have a child, my flock would stay put. I really enjoy cutting up fruits and veggies for them. I really enjoy having them eat at the dinner table with me. I would really miss them if they were gone. I would find a way to make it work, and I would probably ask my brother for advice! He has two Cockatoos and has raised 3 children around them. His oldest child is now 15. (His oldest bird, Baby, is 30.) He knows his birds and taught his kids about them as they grew older. He also worked with his birds to accept the children, and gave them the same amount of attention as always. They are the family pets and every one can handle them. The kids love them, and they have learned responsibilities about parrots. Kudos to my brother for running the family farm! It can be done! How much love for your flock do you have?
11. With all the birds that were there for the festival, we only had one scare. An Amazon got spooked and flew up, but quickly came down about 25 feet from his owner. The rest of the birds were all very well behaved. B)
12. Bird Festival was fabulous! I uploaded some photos I took today. I wasn't sure where to put them all on here, so I just uploaded them to my Flickr account. Enjoy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/30340117@N03/sets/
13. I actually think this is the first year they are doing the festival. I don't think it will be held again until OCT of 2009. However, the first Sunday of every month is Parrots in the Park! Bring the flock to Lake Eola for some socializing and fun in the sun! www.parrotsinthepark.com
14. Hello all! If you are in the central Florida area, and you have Saturday afternoon free, bring your flock down to Lake Eola located in downtown Orlando for the Bird Festival. I will be helping film the events this Saturday so look for the camera lady with the African Grey and Alexandrian on her shoulders! 16. My gosh, I can't stop laughing! I can relate to way too many of those!
17. Oooohhhh, I love that idea lovemyGreys! I will try that today with her egg breakfast. I'll also search through the posts on here to see what other goodies I can come up with. Thanks!
18. My Mischief is a seed lover. I've been slowly reducing the amount of seeds she gets and mixing in veggies, fruits, and color pellets. She won't touch the color pellets, but during a routine visit to the vet, they suggested to try the non-colored pellets. So, I zipped over to the bird store and bought a brand that the vet recommended. I mixed in some pellets with a small amount of seeds (about 5-10%), and checked the bowl in the morning. All the seeds had been cracked, but I didn't see any indication that the pellets had been messed with. There were only a few on the bottom of her house. For the record I have no problem getting her to eat fruit, and she loves spaghetti. I was going to try and mix in some pellets with her fruit bowl next time and see how that goes. I am looking for tips to help her get off her huge seed kick and start to eat the pellets with more of the nutrients that she needs. Thanks for reading!
19. I posted in here a couple of months ago, but I have been spending so much time with my birds that I forget to use the internet sometimes! My name is Jennifer and I reside in Orlando, Florida with 4 birds. Mischief my African Grey, Koa my Alexandrian, Ami my Ring Neck, and Big Bird my dove. I recently adopted Mischief a few months ago and since then it's been a settling period for us both. I have spent a lot of time with her and she now has the run of the household! Her favorite spot is in the kitchen. She'll open the cabinets herself and perch on them. I love her to death and glad she was able to be a part of the flock! So, I now intend to spend some more time checking these forums for tips, tricks, and to meet others! Thanks!
20. Good afternoon everyone! My name is Jennifer and I just recently adopted a 5 year old Temneh. Her name is Mischief. My father has a Congo Grey, which he has had for the last 20 years. I fell in love with this bird and one day wanted to have one of my own. I have a life filled with birds, ever since I was little, birds have always been in my family. I currently have a flock of 4 birds. This flock includes the Grey, an Alexandrian, a Ring Neck, and a dove. I hope to enjoy myself here at these forums and share may stories about my Grey (as well as read some, too)! I am located in Orlando, Florida. Thanks for reading!

Post edited by: djzenjen, at: 2008/06/24 20:39
