That is a fantastic job on that play area! I also love the colors and agree that Mika is quite a beauty:cheer:

I have had both and find both talk equally and both have the ability to pickup many words. I love both Tag and Cag. I love the fact that they are both so different from other parrots out there in looks and personality. I wouldn't trade a grey for any other parrot out there

It is possible for a larger bird to get egg bound but this usually happens more in smaller parrots and smaller conures. Parakeets, lovebirds, cockatiels ...etc. The thing to do is let the bird pick you, female and or male make just as equal pets and can bond to either sex human.<br><br>Post edited by: Cagal08, at: 2008/07/29 22:44

I know this post is old but I highly recommend buying red palm oil from this gal. I swear by this stuff and will continue to recommend this to my clients up at work http://cgi.ebay.com/Good-Stuff-Organic-Red-Palm-Oil-2-oz_W0QQitemZ180147197557QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

I am confused but thats nothing new LOL anywho in your first post it sounded like you just got the goffins and then further down it seems like you have had him a while? How long have you had him and what does his diet consist of and does he get any natural sunlight? Water? What type of water, filtered or bottled or straight out of the tap? I only use distilled water for my pets and reason why is alot of tap water contains parasites and yes even bottled water. A good UV filter such as 'Vortex" is a good one to use if you do not want to continue to keep buying distilled water by the gallons. Atmosphere/surroundings...what other birds are around and how loud is the house ( besides the G2) pulling at his face like that isn't normal and you have to look at and rule out reasons why he might be doing this all the sudden? Make sure the vet looks at his skin around the plucked area on his face and check his stool for parasites and also check for gram negative to be too high. Good luck and keep us posted.

You can get that same cage which is plenty big enough for a Cag as long as you do not plan to over load his cage with tons of toys cheaper here and free shipping too http://www.americas-pet-store.com/details/prodid/765.html I have never shopped with them and I bought my cage from a birdfair.

Loki from week to week! How they grow!

You should not even have to talk to the breeder about her baby needing to be clean...good lord. I am sorry but that is unexcuseable for a baby of any age to have that much formula all over him wheather she has 12 birds or 10000. That is bad hygene and bacteria issues waiting to happen. Greys are prone to gram negative so after you get that baby home a vet visit is in order... I am just shocked that a breeder would let their babies get that nasty...hum -
Thanks Judy, then this print would be $66 US dollars and it is so worth it http://store.valueweb.com/servlet/wptestoreuk/Detail?no=31

Is there anyone from the UK here that can tell me UK prices in US dollars? I found a UK website that has an African Grey print that I must have LOL and I need to know how much they are selling it for in US dollars?

When a bird is higher than you they feel dominate over you so that is why I never let any bird on my shoulder and I never allow them ontop of their cage if it is higher than me. I have raised birds for 25 plus years and seen this negative behavior get worse being allowed to do this.

Hi Susan, Weighing your grey on a daily basis you will be able to tell if he/she is gaining or loosing but even at 16 weeks I feed them 10ml twice a day until they tell me no more. I never stop feeding until the baby lets me know that he is no longer wanting feedings. Good luck

It tears me up to see this and I hope someone has found Tui and is loving her. Such a tragic thing to happen but never give up hope. He spent so much time with her teaching her things and she was just so smart and loved him... I can only pray that god leads her back to him... much prayers for Tui <3

How adorable, you must be so excited. Patiently waiting to bring my baby Cag home in 2 weeks

I also bought the aviator harness and it seems to be easier to put on a bird more so that the Feather Tether that I gave away. This is the best prices I have found on the aviator and if you let them pick the color for you you get another $4 off...can't beat that! http://www.avianweb.com/aviatorharness.html

As I stated my Cag will be 7 weeks old and I will wean him/her so I will wean with a water bottle.
-
Yea this is why I think I am going to raise Rosco on a water bottle, they make a mess in their water then risk getting a bacteria infection and or gram negative constantly and I will wean Rosco so I think this is the better way to so and those lixit 32 oz big top end are nice bottles.

How many bird owners of large parrots give them solely a water bottle to drink out of? I know birds love to soak their pellets in their water and eventually splash that mixture on your walls so I was wondering how many use solely a water bottle and no cup?

Great pictures! They actually look a bit off to me too in age. This is my grey at exactly 3 weeks old, his eyes are open.

Great pictures and Tuki is gorgeous:)

I have decided with doing so much research on proper diets these days ( boy it changes constantly!) But I feel good about finally there is research being done more to try and perfect a solid diet for our greys today. Years ago Exact was only what we fed or and seed and ofcourse proper safe fruits and veggies. For me I plan to feed Harrison's diet and I might mix some roudybush in it and most likely organic fruits and veggies. I don't eat junk myself and have never fed my dogs from the table. My dogs eat one of the best kibbles on the market, I said one of the best but everyone has their own opinion on whats the best "smiles" I may on occasion feed a pine nut or 2 as a treat but I doubt seeds will be included in my greys diet. I will make up my own mixture of pasta and sprouted beans and I do have a recipe from my vet for a awesome healthy birdy bread

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome Yes Judy my first parrot was a grey that was wild caught and it took me probably a good 6mos with constant contact with him to make him a wonderful pet bird. He was a timneh tho and from his leg band we did research and found out he had been imported atleast 24yrs but he learned to talk and was basically like a handfed bird. I could do anything with him and he was my bird 100%. Several years passed and my husband got a job transfer and we had to give Pepper up due to living in apartments that did not allow pets and back then we didn't chance being caught and I was alot younger and now I can say these days no one would make me give up any of my pets! I then went on working in the atmosphere that I loved and worked for a man that raised parrots and thats when I learned to handfeed and for the next 10 plus years I did nothing but handfeed baby parrots and its been 16 yrs now that I have been back in my own home town and we own our own home and now I feel that I am ready to take on my own grey and raise him with lots of love. I have been employed working for an exotic vet for the last 6 yrs and we see all sorts of parrots and exotics. I am very familiar with all species of birds, I have handfed from parakeets to Macaws but the greys have always had my heart. I just could never find a breeder of greys close to me so I went searching in surrounding states and got stiffed on my first deposit on a Timneh grey and then found another breeder of Congos that another forum member recommended me to and so far I don't think I could have found a better breeder and she is only 3 hrs from me Thats about it in a nut shell.
