    MAX Has Gone

I am sorry for you and Max and accidents do happen. We all can learn from things like this and be more careful and never think your fully flighted bird friend will never access an open door. I feel your pain and I am hoping Max is safe out there from harm. May god be with him and keep him safe.
  2. Awesome pictures and look how stunning the parents are. I bet you are just so excited. I have owned alot of different types of birds but by far the Cags are my love of the parrot world Congrats!!
  3. You are correct siobha this post wasn't just directed to birds but I didn't see anywhere else to put it so feel free to move it if there is another proper place. Grapes and Nuts are toxic to dogs. I work for a Vet and I try to send out ligit info to warn people but it is their choice what they choose to feed Thanks I also wanted to add that "Peanuts" can be fatal to birds they are very unhealthy and can carry Aspergillosis which can be a devastating disease. Also sugarfree gum is "Toxic"<br><br>Post edited by: Cagal08, at: 2008/09/25 13:28
  4. Pogo is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing his photo
  5. Avocados Avocados contain a toxin known as persin. Persin is found in various parts of the avocado and avocado trees (eg, leaves, rind, etc). This toxin is known mostly to cause vomiting and diarrhea. Birds and small pets seem most affected by the negative side effects of consuming avocado. Beer Not just beer…all alcohol. Depending on how much alcohol your animal ingests, it can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, depression, difficulty breathing, coma, and possible death. Nuts An unknown toxin in nuts can have negative effects on the nervous, digestive, and muscular systems of your pet. Symptoms can include muscle tremors, weakness, an upset stomach, vomiting, depression, inactivity, and stiffness. Chocolate Chocolate contains a compound called theobromine that is toxic to pets. If enough is ingested, your animal can suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, abnormal heart rhythms, tremors, seizures, and possible death. Candy Chocolate is the most common candy that is toxic to pets, especially to dogs, cats and ferrets. Any candy containing the sweetener xylitol can also be toxic to pets. Caffeine Caffeine is generally highly toxic to pets, having negative effects on both the cardiac and nervous systems. Side effects can include vomiting, diarrhea, abnormal heart rhythms, tremors, seizures, and possible death. Grapes and raisins An unknown toxin in grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure and ultimately lead to death. Symptoms of this poisoning can include hyperactivity, vomiting, diarrhea, and irregular heartbeat. Onions Onions, along with garlic and chives, are all part of the same species of plant—the Allium species. Allium species plants contain sulfur compounds that can cause stomach irritation and possibly result in damage to red blood cells. This is referred to as Allium poisoning. Some human medicines While some human medications are prescribed for pets by veterinarians, others can be highly toxic and fatal. Acetaminophen, which is contained in Tylenol and other similar products, for example, can be fatal to cats. Always consult with your veterinarian before giving human medication to a pet. Other foods that can be toxic to your pet: Garlic (see "onions," above) Chives (see "onions," above) Fruit pits, especially those of apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines, and cherries Apple seeds Mustard seeds Rhubarb leaves Tea Potato leaves and stems Tomato leaves and stems
  6. They look like they were all well taken care of but it is always sad when birds get thrown from home to home. I hope they find their forever home.
  7. My next bird will be a cockatoo one day but way down the road. I want one of the smaller toos like a G2 or RB2 or LS2 Greys are probably one of the hardest parrots to wean and when I handfed my DYH I fed her for a whole year
  8. Lovemygreys is correct, even with clipped wings a good gust of wind or even if the bird gets frightened it could fly away. That would have been my worst nightmare if Roscoe did that because he isn't clipped but we do not have a doggie door and will never have one and Roscoe will never get his wings clipped either but I promise to be so xtra careful when he is out. So glad Shadow is safe <br><br>Post edited by: Cagal08, at: 2008/09/20 03:51

  10. Oh I am so terribly sorry for your loss of your sweet Alfie My thoughts are with you.
  11. I only burn Mia Bella candles, they are completely safe around all animals but I never have them lit when Roscoe is out flying around the house. Here is the link to the website. http://www.onlinegifts.scent-team.com/shop/scart.php

    Red Palm Oil

I get mine here and it is 100% red palm oil. She also has it in 4oz which is what I bought from her. http://cgi.ebay.com/Good-Stuff-Organic-Red-Palm-Oil-2-oz_W0QQitemZ180147197557QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 Does anyone know if you refrigerate it after open or does it matter?
  13. I started out buying Roscoes cage and toys and food and toys and did I mention toys LOL, 3 months before he came home and I spent more on Roscoes stuff by far than I did him. Seriously by the time I was done I had spent over $2000 just on supplies! I like to be all prepared for my birds arrival and It sure kept me busy and my mind off the impatient waiting plus "You Tube" watching baby greys helped me alot too. Good Luck with your new baby and be sure to post tons of pictures <br><br>Post edited by: Cagal08, at: 2008/09/17 01:24
  14. I am Thankful my breeder put a leg band on Roscoe because of the fact that she kept a record of his numbers on his band and on my copy of his papers is also the number so if he gets lost it is a way to prove that he is indeed mine. Now I realize if he gets stolen then someone can easily remove the band with a good pair of leg band cutters but I will not risk microchipping him with the things I have heard about that. I do plan to teach Roscoe my Cell phone number so if he ever gets lost he can tell someone his phone number. God forbid that to ever happen tho. I have always had every bird I ever owned in the past with a leg band on and never had issues of accidents but that depends how your cage is setup and safe thinking on toys that could possibly hangup in the band. I have seen more problems with the open bands more tho. Most breeders use a closed band.<br><br>Post edited by: Cagal08, at: 2008/09/17 01:14
  15. Hum my grey growls at everyone but me but I handfed him and I am still handfeeding him but he is rotten and I wish he wouldn't depend on me so much and get just a little independent. I know crazy but you have no clue how this bird wants to be on me 24/7 even my hubby knows we have had loads of birds before and this one is truely too bonded.....how to un-bond so strongly?
  16. Congrats on your new baby grey. Is he fully weaned off his formula? 10 weeks is awfully young to be weaned if he is. Monitoring his weight at this age is a good idea to make sure he is indeed eating enough. Where are the pictures of this lovely grey
  17. Roscoe is a DNA'd male and I knew it before and so did his breeder, we strickly were going by the shape of his head " blocky" not rounded and also color of the grey is also a clue, males are ususally darker grey and females are usually very light grey color. You cannot tell the sex on the under side of the tail when they are babies, they gotta go through the first molt and then basically you can tell. I use to work for a breeder and I handfed all his grey babies and each year we visually sexed the babies and then wrote down the band number and what sex we thought they were and then when DNA results came back we were amazed that we were never wrong on our visual guesses Its a rummor and not true that females bond with male humans and vise versa. Greys no matter what sex will pick who they love and prefer to be on that person all the time and will tollerate others or purely hate them.
  18. Baxtersmom how is Bonkers doing now?
  19. Thanks Lyric I just wish he would eat more on his own because he is getting a little too thin for me. I think he depends on me too much and maybe I have over-spoiled him I can feel his breast bone even at 13 weeks old and still feeding him 3 times a day...what am I doing wrong?
  20. Well I ordered the hologram one with the leash so we shall see how well Roscoe likes it. I like the idea of not getting birdie poop all over my clothes LOL!
  21. Zero is just gorgeous, how old is she?
  22. Thanks Dave that is the name that I needed I am going to probably get some for Roscoe and BTW he is only 13 weeks old and we are now working on the aviator harness and so far so good but he is a pretty calm grey
  23. Does anyone use the birdie diapers? It escapes my mind what they are called but I was wondering how you liked them?
  24. Roscoe cannot reach any litter that I put in his cage but I find it easy to use puppy pads since I do not have access to alot of newspaper and the puppy pads work very well and easy to fold up and remove and they are cheap enough at walmart.
  25. Roscoe is growing up! Well sortof lol he is 100% all my bird tho. I cannot walk in the same room with him without him vocalizing and climbing to the door of his cage and he will not stop until I go get him and then it is almost like he is spazing out to get on my hand fast enough LOL! I just adore him!! He doesn't dislike my hubby but he acts different towards him than I. He puffs up and sways back and forth whenever my hubby comes close to him or his cage. My hubby does not mind tho because Roscoe was bought just for me anyways here is my big boy <3 <br><br>Post edited by: Cagal08, at: 2008/09/05 20:57
