  1. Thanks i thought it looked nice. Zuri not so much.lol. Yes the wood is hardwood dowel as the top perch thought it wouldnt be soo foreign to him. and the toys are old toys he loves so it shouldnt be a big deal. I actually tried to take one of the towers off to limit his feeling of being overshadowed still nope. The food and water well the last protable stand i had i leave here in my room because when im in here my computer room hes on his real big day ong play stand and wont be quiet..but not annoying type talking whistling to me saying coe get me and ill be quiet. So sometimes im here for extended periods so he'd eat all the time and in my eyes in the wild they forage in different areas in the wild so this is a forage area. Thats my thought anyways. As for the pooping area well for the limited time he spent on it it worked well learned that i shouldve put paper down first as when he let one go the sound of it hitting scared him and he flew to me.
  2. YOu did a great thing in being patient it must be hard when you take on someone elses mistakes with your grey. I commend you on it. With my TAG he'll play with anything i have like i brush my teeth and hes on my shoulder my toothbrush is a prized toy unfortunately for him its off limits, pens im using geeze that too off limits, his toys well i had this cool shredding toy i thought he'd love and he left it for like 3 weeks all of a sudden it was destroyed in 2 days. what im gettign at is everyone is right shel come around and they want what we use and give them time and the toys will someday become used.
  3. Thanks for the advice ive left it in open view so he sees it daily. Funny when i pass by it with him on me he grabs hard on my arm with his nails and or trys to crawl up my arm to hide. poor guy..i thought of putting it in his room by the cage but didnt want him to fear his home you know? I'll give the big suck some time and try again. If it didnt take me 4 hrs to put it all together i wouldnt be mad and just give it away and if this was normal for him to be scared hes like fearless just this though. So you gave me a good idea i think im goign to wrap it more in sisal so maybe that'l make the scary death stand more friendly. heres a pic of it not scary is it? haha
  4. wow im sorry you have to go through that it must be tough. Just remember your doing this for her best. Its true you'll have time to gain it back in time. When i had to hold my alexandrine down for groomingthe first time he hated me for a week. They arent the cuddliest birds already and they can bite hard. But giving him words of encouragement and treats after cant hurt.
  5. my one attempt of a pvc stand was a great look but failure in that my TAG is scared to death of it!!..I made one mistake and i think hes stuck on it. When i brought the pvc pipe it was 10ft in length. When i brought it into the house he saw just pipe and not me and freaked and flew. Sooo i even pick it up and he flies. He saw me put it together and mistake number 2 he know knows scaey pipe is new stand = death haha. Its my hypthesis anyways he'll try anythign new go anywhere and not be scared for some reason this stand is the devil to him and thats my only guess. Any suggestions?
  6. I agree with extended periods of time yes i think it was a useful link and everyone should be vigilant in keeping an eye on their bird saying this our birds history is from Africa and its hot there..all the time i agree in the wild they would go and bathe or just get cool and ive seen my TAG do what he described and ive misted him and he was fine here in Canada it does get hot hmm trying to do the celcius to fahrenheit and id say for sure this summer its been high 80s and the biggest concern are those that put their birds in windows thats no good. I truly believe outdoor time is very important and what im trying to say is being fearful of taking your bird out period worrying about the heat is wrong as well limiting the time sure i am totally agree
  7. im happy for you its an exciting time and im soo suprised they are right it was very well socialized they say the first day to just let them chill in the cage etc. for him to have eaten and be playful you have a great start

    Molting?

yes it is normal ive found down feathers since the day i brought my first parrot home..they are very light and fly everywhere..haha.

    Molting?

hes molting and whoa do they make a mess with those feathers and hes lasted like 5 months i think everyday and they fluffy down ones go everywhere happy cleaning. mine TAG is still on the last parts of his molt. hes a year and 7 months.
  10. i dont know how yu guys feel about clipping your bird but i made the descsion to clip zuri and i have to say i feel better knowing he cant get far id hate to lose him to a door being open etc. As for leaving him well he'd love to be on me 24/7 I work night shift so im awake from like noon to work time so as soon as i get up and sometimes the boys can hear me move and start yapping it up to fully awaken me. I actually leave them on their playstand all day do they ever slip and fly off yep..but ive made a way up they have climbed up and right back up. When i leave the room they whistle and call me and i call back and this is my life..haha. what im trying to say is if you have limited their mobility and have constructed a semi bird proof area i feel confident in leaving the boys when i do work in other rooms. Funny story once i fell asleep on a weekend on the couch and the boys my timneh and my aleaxandrine decided it was getting dark out so they flew well half flew to their cage climbed up and went to bed in their cage in their room. How i slept through that is another story.
  11. I agree thats a sure sign of a good breeder and atleast you get to see him and play with him even if its limited. Taking him now and thinking you could feed him will mess him up with his schedule just take comfort when you get him he'll be ready and loving you already and you have already won his love.

  13. Here is a picture of my new portable one. I have to thank many of you for the inspiration and ideas i would never have thought pvc til I read some of your ideas especially using the bottom to tray a seed catcher. I just used a plain roasting pan haha. cheap and works. I have to say when zuri decides he wants to use it ill be a lot happier im giving him time ot warm up to it.
  14. wow those are amazing stands you guys have made!! ive just completed a new small movable stand using pvc and didnt use glue either i noticed it was pretty snug on its own and didnt need it in my opinion. Zuri my TAG has a fear of it so far im leaving it in the room to become more familiar to it i think hes scared because its white pvc poles for some reason hes soo afraid of sticks period i hope someone scare him with one at the store before i brought him home anyone else have similar problem with your grey? I can understand like vacuum hoses they look like scary snakes but its really odd.
  15. I know its an exciting time when you know the time is almost here. Thats really special that he is already friendly to you that'l make the transition much easier. I visited mine atleast once ot twice a week while being weaned and it made a world of difference
  16. Hey everyone im really curious Zuri my TAG is just over a year and a half old and has been molting slowly for atleast 5 months and still loosing flight and smaller feathers to this day.I can tell hes not plucking because i can see the difference in colours between new and old and this is my first grey so do greys have a long molting time? I know all breeds are different but im curious since in comparison my Alexandrine has a very quick molt that lasts maybe 2 months and i know he would benefit from having a slower molt and im more worried about my alex that my grey cause it must be and he shows it to me in his behaviour hes not really having fun loosing so many feathers so fast i give them baths and they both love them.
  17. This is zuris stand the other is tiagos stand my alexandrine. Looking at your pvc which is really great as well gave me a great idea for a new portable stand where i can fit the seed catcher base looking at your how the bin fit right in, thanks for the idea.
  18. Thanks everyone I was like shocked by how much they cost to buy so i made this one for under $60. The wood is first a hardwood base with poplar wood as the walls/seed catcher and a hardwood dowel across the front so its easier on his feet. The stairs were made from hardwood dowels and i drill holes and made the steps from smaller hardwood dowels. The perches are a combo of an extra perch from his cage and a manzita wood perch i bought. The rest was wood from my fathers backyard tree bird safe as well and i peeled the bark washed it through. The food dishes were the biggest expense at petsmart here they are $15 a piece.
  19. Here are some pics of my stand let me know what you think.
  20. It is a very nice stand one of the nicer ones ive seen. If your having trouble finding a name like i did, I went online and went to trabslating english to African language and we came up with Zuri which in swahili is gorgeous. So just an idea.
  21. wow i didnt realize how many poeple have trouble with giving their greys baths, im really lucky in that zuri my timneh loves baths by misting. Once he sees the bottle he'll shake out already and stay hopping around. Other times we'll be sitting together and ill here him say "I wanna shower" " are you all wet" and thats my cue for shower haha. Laomst weekly he wants one. I give him an extra misting during the hot days.
  22. Im not an expert but my common sense says its jealousy. Him regurgitating food to you is the ultimate love for you hes trying to feed you. If hes doing it in his bage alone maybe he has a stomach problem but if hes on your shouldr and saying here have some of my food then its normal my grey does that too, whens hes being lovey dovey. My guess is the new animals in your home and taking away from his time with you. To this day and ive had Zuri my grey for a year now anytime he sees me pickign up my Alexandrine Tiago he puffs right up and begs for my attention. As for toys i bought zuri a cool new toy and for weeks it sat on his play stand and then one day it became his fav toy so he'll come around. His biting is aggression for jealousy thats my 2 cents.
  23. guess im speaking from my own perspective with my Timneh its all about being heard. Yes they arent just being totally quiet but what i meant was that if theres like my A/c on plus tv he is much louder thats the point. my Alexandrine and Grey are exceptions to the moring noise sure they do chirp, whistle etc, but honestly havent heard anything anyone would or should complain about. If they complained id whistle all day to teach them!!haha kidding. but depends on your neighbours as well. I hear budgies upstairs so find out with your building about their policies.
  24. Hi and i agree with M2MM with her insights. I cant say i spend that much on Zuri a month thats for sure. I save alot because i buy wood at home depot and make my own toys with bird safe products and save big $$ so if you get one its much cheaper. Zuri eats alot of what i do and he always wants me to share. I have him clipped and I do lots of excercise with him he likes to hang upside down from my hand and flaps away and i put him on the ground and have him run to me across the apartment for a treat. I have yet to see him seem unhappy but it is a personal choice. As for adding to the flock well def there is a possibilty. I have a alexandrine as well and zuri my Timneh is very curious of him but tiago the alex is scared to death of him. So i never have them close. Be sure to get a vet check before putting them in the same room as a quarantine though. As one person goes ya i have to say they def are but i agree that you being single now it will take work later to include your future partner in his/her life. They are def amazing birds and suprise you with how smart they are but they need time with you so dont get one if you cant devote an hour or two a day
  25. Stepping up from the ground in like the easiest because he wants to be higher and is a good way to train when your grey is being bitie with other people. Im not sure how long youve had him but like i said dont give up and leave him to know that you'll give in when he bites or trys to its a vicious cycle thats will be hard to break. Eventually you'll have to give him no other choice but to step up not frocefully but if he steps on your hand from the floor then he physically knows how to, maybe when you do this say step up and step down when you put him in his cage. A good breeder wouldve done this training for you before you brought him home. Ive heard good and bad about using a perch i guess in a last resort its better than nothing but i feel and have read it takes away the human bond over time. But im not one to talk about what ive read because i let him on my shoulder all the time and i have read not to let them, so again patience but show him your the boss at the same time..good luck
