  1. Thanks all for you positive replies. Now, I have to get him to start to learn how to perch on my hand rather than trying to feed from it like his hand feeding syringe.
  2. My baby TAG has a habit of putting his weaning pellets in the water dish. I have to change it often enough. I was wondering if anyone knows how to introduce and get him to start using a water bottle with a ball end.
  3. My baby TAG, Bobot, between 8 1/2 - 9 weeks of age. A little tuckered out after eating and playing this morning. <br><br>Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/07/16 21:26

  5. I took some pixs this morning of Bobot at 8 1/2 weeks. Enjoy! Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/07/16 19:18<br><br>Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/07/16 19:37
  6. You came to the right place, Lorrie? There's soo much information contained within this forum to help you with training and life with a grey. Keep us informed on your progress. Wishing you much luck with your 2 new additions.
  7. I'm faced with the same problem. I want a playstand with enough activities and features so my TAG won't get bored. I read about creating PVC play stands and it seems pretty simple. The only issue I'm struggling with is to provide enough gripping surface on the PVC. The two options talked about are - sanding PVC to provide a rough surface or using burlap. I like the burlap idea but I don't know how to get it to stay on the PVC piping. I'll keep you posted on my grand design in the coming weeks.<br><br>Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/07/15 22:50
  8. Please stay! I joined this forum before I received my baby grey. We all are busy and log-in to get informed and contribute as often as we can. For me, it kept me motivated and supported prior to and after receiving my baby TAG. It serves as a support group so I am never alone with my TAG; I am part of a larger, world-wide community of folks that appreciate greys, own greys, experts, etc. No need to say goodbye just like the pacific islanders, Hawaiians, say "Aloha" which literally means Hello and Goodbye at the same time. Better translated to see you again.
  9. All, My baby TAG, Bobot, is about 8 1/2 weeks and is weaning himself early. Since this is my first baby grey, I need advice. He eats a good portion of his weaning pellets and table food (veggies, rice and pasta). I did notice he is slimming down but not too much. The only time he wants to be hand fed is in the morning or the evening. He only eats about 20cc - 30cc though. His last visit to the vet was last Monday and they say he's health and doing well. Any thoughts?<br><br>Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/07/14 23:28
  10. Welcome Dusty! I read your profile and I think you got us beat when it comes to having a zoo at home - I'm so jealous. See you around.
  11. All, I am focusing on socializing my 8 week baby TAG as much as I can. The TAG is well socialized with other birds at home - keets and tiels. I have also ventured out with him/her out of town by car using a travel cage. But what about spending time with other birds? There are a number of bird interest groups within my area. They often get together with their birds. My breeder cautioned me about this since other birds can easily transmit disease and illnesses. What are your thoughts?
  12. At what age do you recommend using the harness? I know babies are more accepting of new things. My TAG is just over 8 weeks old now. Also, are there do's and don'ts of taking a grey out? - picking up illness/diseases, what things to watch out for? spending time with other birds outside of home flock?

    potty training

Thanks, I'll try this potty training technique on my grey while he's still young. I noticed certain behaviors before relieving himself/herself.
  14. Congratulations on your new grey! He's a TAG correct? Reminscent of my baby just about a few weeks ago. Enjoy!
  15. Quick question about nail trimming for grey. I have a new baby about 8 weeks old. He's starting to perch now also on my hand. His nails are sharp. The breeder suggested using a Dremel tool with the sanding adapter on the end. This seems to work fine but I guess I'm not doing it long enough. Within 5 days his nails are sharp again. How far do you trim? I know this is difficult to explain or articulate without seeing. Thanks in advance.
  16. Congratulations on your new CAG! Is your previous one a TAG or CAG?
  17. Welcome Norm! Congratulations on connecting with another Grey after all this time. I too have a baby grey I am handfeeding about 4 times a day. Looking forward to some pictures.

  19. All, I just wanted to introduce my baby TAG - Bobot. The name was given by my youngest child - Noam as an attempt to say his favorite movie, Robot. The name just stuck after that. I've waited so long and as as time got closer, I couldn't contain my excitement. The pictures are from the last 2 weeks at 6 and 7 weeks of age. He's doing well despite the flight from Florida to California. His continuing to gain weight and loves to cuddle and play. Enjoy the photos! http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/nn48/cdelatorrejr/Bobot/ Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/07/05 00:50<br><br>Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/07/05 00:51
  20. How ironic! I just brought my young bird home to San Diego, CA from Tampa, FL. The two airlines that will allow pets are Delta and Continental Airlines. The difference in price is negligible (~ $100). Delta only allows one in-cabin pet per flight where Continental allows four. The pet carrier counts as one carry on; most airlines allow 2 pieces per person. I checked the rules and regulations about hand carrying pets in the cabin. The airlines strictly enforce rules on the size of the cage since it has to fit underneath the seat (maximum size 22" L x 14" W x 9" H). I ordered the carrier from PETCO.COM. In the end, my experience was wonderful. Many people loved having a grey on the plane. The young bird kept the attention and interest of children whose parents were so grateful. Also, I didn't realize Florida has many bird enthusiasts and lovers similar to the dog community in California. Good luck and I wish you and your grey a safe trip!
  21. I am happy to hear Scar is doing well. I too am a new TAG owner. I had a similar experience but I am glad I spent the two months getting to know my breeder personally over the phone. We spent time talking about greys and he freely shared his experience, knowledge and love for birds. I was convinced the bird I put a deposit on is coming from a loving home and environment. I noticed two days after picking my bird up from the breeder that one of his nails on his right foot was bent upwards different from the rest. I'm unsure if the injury happened in the breeders care or mine. I contacted the breeder and right away he expressed concern and asked if I wanted to exchange the bird. I declined since we've already bonded and asked his advice on what to do since I was a new grey owner. In the end, I took the bird to the vet and the nail had to be removed. The vet's assumption is the injury is due to the clumsiness of young birds getting around. Its been about 4 days and I noticed a stub of a nail growing. I now consider my breeder a friend and made plans to go to bird shows with him when I am in town. I hope many readers learn from your painful experience so that others may benefit. My sympathy and support goes out to you. I am happy to hear that this baby went to you and your loving home. I've heard stories of owners not willing to take responsibility of their pet - scary! Good luck.
  22. If I put the baby TAG in the larger cage, can I put a beach towel at the bottom to lessen the blow of falling and also so his feet do not go through the grate? Is this advisable?<br><br>Post edited by: cdelatorrejr, at: 2008/06/16 22:07
  23. One more questions about housing my baby TAG. When I transition him/her to a cage, I have two options. I already have a 3'L x2'W 4'H cage setup or a small 24"L x 18"W x 24"H spare cage I used to house budgies in. If I move him in the larger cage, I can put all the perches, feeding dishes and toys at the bottom but I am concerned about the baby climbing and hurting himself. If I place the baby in the smaller cage, will it be too cramped? Thanks in advance for your advice.
