Poor little noname was hatched February 13, 2008 and brought home about 2 weeks ago. Guess I need to figure out the exact date. Oh, and the poor thing needs a name. I think I'll start a naming thread.
-
LOL... Well, I talk to them all the time. The Grey talks up a storm in some bizarre, garbled language he created... sometimes I can hear a hello in there. But I know he's too young to talk so it's probably just wishful thinking on my part. But mark my words, this Grey will talk. If I turn blue in the face and lose my voice from all of the one way conversations, he will talk!
-
Okay, so I know he/she is only 14 weeks old and all, but I'm not a patient person. Can somebody make my bird talk? I'm ready now! Seriously, how old were everybodys Greys before they started talking? Just so I have a rough time estimate. I'm guessing anywhere from 4 months to over a year?
-
Ahem... so, when did it become okay to use words such as lovely and pretty when it comes to poo?
-
Wow. What did I get myself into by joining this forum thus exposing myself to you weird poopologists?
-
Well, I worry for all of you after this thread! So, we went to the vet and he says everything looks great and keep doing what I'm doing! This is good to hear for a newbie who has found herself handfeeding without any experience! He did say the smell could be from a lack of bacteria and put the baby on acidopholus powder. He's only had one dose and already the poop is odorless!
-
So, big, wet, smelly poop again this morning but not during the day. Is this weird?
-
Okay, here's the article I read. http://www.birdhobbyist.com/articles/Poopology101.html

I didn't mean to alarm you siobha! Seriously, I've had birds for about 2 months now and no prior experience so I'm definitely no expert. If your bird has always pooed like that then it seems that would be normal for your bird. Let me see if I can find that article I read for you. I'll post it in a minute.
-
Awww... the ancient art of poopology. I never studied it. I shall learn the sacred ways though! Thanks for the laugh danmcq! Siobha9- In researching my poop question, I did read that there should always be the three parts so if yours has no white, you might consider a vet visit. But I'm no expert. Maybe others will have some advice for you.

Hi So the baby is 13 weeks old and being hand fed by me. He's been with me 2 weeks now. He's been eating his formula and in the past week has really started eating veggies and nuts and fruit and pellets. Today he had a really large poo that was really fowl smelling. It was also really watery though it did have all three parts. He had two more that were smelly today and his last one seemed normal. Should I be alarmed? The only other time he had a smelly poo was the night we brought him home and I figured it was from the stress of leaving home and the long car ride etc. Anyway, any poo experts out there with some advice? His formula is Kaytee and is what the breeder was feeding him. I introduced jalepenos and grapes and raw carrots in the past two days.

I had the Timneh for 5 days. He went home with a girl I know who has a rescued Cag and was looking for a Tag. Long story short, he absolutely adored her immediately and barely tolerated me so we felt it was best for him to go home with her. The Cag is my baby and is definitely not leaving me. It was too hard to let the Timneh go after five day! Now I'm just worried about screwing him up somehow by weaning him wrong! He is eating well on his on which is why I wonder if he should still be wanting so many hand feedings a day. He's also flying (limited as we're in an apartment) and I don't know how long to let him fly before clipping. It seems that weaning and fledging are tied in somehow?
-
That was helpful! I've been doing some things wrong already. My formula has been too thick and not warm enough. I read how easy it is to burn the crop so I didn't want to take a chance. As for the schedule, I read about abundance weaning and have been feeding him when he's hungry. I don't know if this will be detrimental or not.

Thanks! I will read it now!

So, my baby grey was born on February 13th making him/her 13 weeks old. I was told he was weaned but ready to go home and I should hand feed him once at night. Well, I've been hand feeding him whenever he begs for food. He is also eating most of what I put out for him... broccoli, corn on the cob, lima beans, peas, carrots, nuts, fruit, jalapenos, pellets etc. He's also been eating less at each hand feeding but the hand feedings are probably 3 to 4 times a day. So, is this normal? Am I doing it wrong? Any advice would be appreciated!<br><br>Post edited by: Pchela, at: 2008/05/21 07:30

These videos inspired me to get my new Grey baby! This is terrible. I hope he doesn't give up looking. I've read so many stories of parrots being reunited with their families.

From all of my research I've done, it is never too late to bond with a parrot. It will probably take more time to bond with an older parrot than a baby of course but well worth it. Remember, a 15 year old Grey is still pretty young. Also, you don't have to wait around for it to start talking and doing fun things! You should meet the parrot and see what you think. Keep in mind that he may not take to you right away... see if there is a way for you to spend some time with him and get to know him.
-
Well, my baby is only 12 weeks old so I guess there's no way for me to even guess at his sex. The breeder said male, but he was just guessing as well. I think I'll opt for the dna test.
-
Thanks Ashley. I'm in Texas as well! So, are you still waiting for your Tag to come home? I don't know how you can be so patient!
-
Awww... thanks so much ladies! That does make me feel better. I do know that he's happy now and that's the most important thing. You're right. BTW- Tyco is beautiful! And lucky he found you! Post edited by: Pchela, at: 2008/05/16 19:44<br><br>Post edited by: Pchela, at: 2008/09/29 07:13

Yes, most definitely a scam. I came across several of these in my recent search for a Grey.
-
Is there a way to tell without dna sexing?
-
Thanks guys! BTW- I think Edison rocks! Judy, I hear what you are saying. Trust me, it was no easy thing letting the TAG go but I really did feel that she was better for him. If you would have seen the way he reacted to her immediately. I really did go into it having researched for months and absolutely prepared for a lifetime commitment. I felt like a terrible person letting him go and I struggled with the decision. Seriously, there is no way in hell this baby is ever leaving me, and if something happens to me, the husband and daughter had better take good care of him! I keep up with the TAG, his name is Vincent and he is doing so well for her that I'm convinced I made the right decision. It's almost like I picked him up for her at the bird fair. They were clearly meant for each other. *sigh* Wow. I have guilt! I never thought I'd be a person to give up a bird.

I just happened to stumble onto a huge sale on amazon.com today. I was only looking at parrot toys but it may span to all parrot items. Anyway, I'm getting a some $30 toys for around $10 a piece. Nice sale if anybody is interested.

Hello. As some of you may remember, I had a TAG. Well, I no longer have him. I had him for 5 days... he was cage aggressive and wanted nothing to do with me. I'm sure that with time he would have come around and grown to trust me but he ended up going to live with a girl who has a rescue CAG and was looking for a TAG. The TAG went right to her and cuddled up with her immediately, cooing and snuggling with her and there was simply no question. I knew that he wanted to go home with her. I was sad and even cried a bit but I'd only had him 5 days so it was tolerable and knowing that he loved her right away helped. (though it made me wonder what I was doing wrong) Anyway, I have my Senegal and we've decided to name him Pippin as he's a lovable pain in the ass... just like Peregrin Took. I kind of want to name the Grey Gandalf... is that way too cheesy? I've loved LOTR's since I was around 6 or so (well the Hobbit first) but since the movies came out it seems there will be hundreds of Greys named Gandalf. Thoughts?<br><br>Post edited by: Pchela, at: 2008/09/29 07:11
