  1. I voted , all great pics. Mary (Bettyboop )
  2. How very sad .Those poor babies. I can't imagine people visiting and walking by all those poor guys and leaving them there. Exactly what is the mission of this group , if they don't allow adoptions ? I guess I better check out the website. My Sammy is a handful right now , (doing better) but I could never part with either of my birds. My Grand Daughter is taking both our birds at our death . Also I think it would be great to start a savings account for our birds , so that when we do go , they wont be a financial burden on the person . I feel bad for those birds .Lets go get them ... Mary
  3. Hi Dan , Neat Poll ! I voted and my birds are not clipped. Mary
  4. Hi Empress, welcome to the group. Yes you are correct , not to use smelly things around the bird . Also you can not use Teflon coated cookware . I even heard a story about a lady who cooked a Turkey in her self cleaning oven last Thanksgiving and lost two birds as a result . The self cleaning oven started releasing some fumes from the splatters . I have never heard of such a thing . However when I cook , I open windows near the birds along with my air purifiers. They are very sensitive and even fire places can be a hazard. The burning wood releases chemicals. I use candles back in our bed room , but I do keep my door shut and the birds are no where close to the area.So with the built in system , you could be safe . I know nothing about this type of air cleaner , so I wouldnt feel safe saying yes. Perhaps someone else can advise . It is always better to be safe than sorry. Kind Regards, Mary
  5. I wash the cloths with bleach alone .I guess you can double rinse , but I havent had a problem . Mary
  6. I also use these rags called power rags , I bought them at home depot .I have ones that are used only on the cages. They are awesome . I spray the vinegar on, the rag has lines in the fabric , they work better than anything I have used to remove anything and everything LOL.... Then I just throw them in a bleach wash . I think they are online also under Power Rags. Mary
  7. Nasy , I am so sorry . My heart dropped as I read the post , how very sad and how very quickly he passed . I would want to know what it was and where did it come from. I agree with Acappella about knowing if there is something toxic before bringing in a new bird. Well Blessings and prayers to you, little Cookie is now at Rainbow Bridge , flying high and feeling no pain .. Mary
  8. I love my air cleaners , they really help. I have one in my bird room also. Mary
  9. Kim , I have read like the previous post it can be from being nervous , fearful , anxious or after a bath , this is how they dry the feathers . In the wild they need to be dry quickly so they can fly to get away from preditors.I wouldnt worry , both of mine do it especially after bathing .If it continues and they don't eat , then I would discuss it with the A vet. Mary
  10. Hey cleaning lady , I burn my candles on my patio, we spend a lot of time out there at night . It beats not having them at all and I do burn them back in our bedroom and bath , since it is so far away from the birds .I love my house smelling clean but my air cleaners usually do the trick . Hugs, Mary
  11. How exciting , a new baby , can't wait to hear what you choose . Good advice , always pick one that looks straight at you , and doesnt shy away . Congrats, Mary
  12. LOL....Yes , I will accept the title and I think Kim will also . Somebody has to do it ..LOL.....
  13. Hello Kukushka, welcome to the group . I have never had a baby Grey , I have had two rehomed Greys . One TAG who passed away and now a three year old CAG . Both bonded with us , however they both came with some baggage . The TAG, was a darling bird who had been left alone in a room locked up , so we always had problems getting him back into his cage .LOL...He was very sweet and I miss him and always will . The Congo , that we have now is three and talks up a storm . He keeps us laughing all the time. He has some issues that we are working on and it just takes time . I also have a one year old female Alexandrine whom we have had since she was three months old . She is adorable and has no baggage , she is a model bird , now that she is over the first few weeks of being in a new home . I think it depends on the individual , however I always want the whatever that no one else wants . They all need time , devotion , love , and lots of attention . I am sure any Grey will love you , because of the love you give . The more you give , the more they give back .There are a lot of wonderful Greys out there who need another chance, people sometimes give up because the bird doesnt act like they want it to , or like you said didnt know what they were getting into.It is a life long relationship, like with a 5 year old child .... We do have to remember they are wild . It is an honor to have one in our homes . I love them and think they are the greatest . Can't wait to hear more from you on your decision . Kind Regards , Mary<br><br>Post edited by: bettyboop, at: 2008/05/28 01:41

  15. Nasy, you poor thing , I know you must be in a panic . I am sure you are doing a good job and doing all you can for your precious little Grey . I agree with Dave , I would call the vet everyday and give him a better or worse description of your bird .I do think I would ask your vet if perhaps he could consult with an Avian vet , or refer you to one .I am sure he could do a phone consultation if there isnt one around you .It wouldnt hurt to ask ..... Good luck and I will be thinking about you and your bird, keep us informed. Mary

  18. Sorry to hear about your Grey starting to pluck. When was the last avian check up ? I would start with a check up since this is new especially with a bird you have had since birth. There are many post , about plucking that you can read on this forum .So just do a search .Hopefully you can find one that will help you . A lot of members use Aloe Vera juice in the spray bath .Good luck .Welcome to the group . Mary
