1. Hello Jimmy I never said you said that. I responded to you with it takes time I used those as examples. I have been around birds for 25 years and I was offering you advise if you take fine if you dont thats fine. Have you ever in your life herd the term "UNTRAINED" I sure have not. I would love to hear how you untrain a pet. It does not even sound logical. But I am always wanting to learn. One other thing if you ask for advise my suggestion to you leave the sarcasim out of your response. You do that to enough people you wont find to many others willing to give you any responses. Agian that is advise take it or leave it.
2. Thank you Judy for the props. You are a great person. Yes it takes time to work with these little guys. I see people that buy a bird and expect it to become a show bird or a Alex. These things take so much time and effert by the owners, you cant expect it to be done over night. Work,Work,Work thats 1 of the pieces the other is Patience, patience, patience. We will come around after time.
3. Hello wecome to the family I agree we need more info about you bird to answer the questions with the right answers for you. Greys are very smart and love to test the waters to see how much they will get away with. Again welcome to the FAMILY!!!
4. Great post DAD, I have not been on this forum long but I have to say all of the mods and admins here are true gems, they care about everybody and take their feelings out of it and give them to all of us. That is what true animal and people lovers are like. They put them self in the middle of sticky situations and try to hold down the fights and bickering The refs of the forum. We all seem to respect each other in here and that all start with that we are all good hearted members who care enough to make this a FUN and LEARNING spot for people that dont have the knowledge and the no how. When someone looses a pet they tell us WHY because they know that we feel their pain and want us to be a part of their life as well. We debate here and there but as a whole we just like a family. Describe a family= poeple that love each other and at times will not see eye to eye on things WOW that really sound like what we have here a FAMILY!!!!!
5. Welcome Frank, Welcome to the family, You will find alot of very useful info here. The people here are great and will answer all of you questions. Again welcome to the FAMILY!!!!
6. Hey Jimmy, Have patience with him he will get the picture. Rome was not built in a day and this will not either. Give him time to get use to the command. You are doing it right but have some patience. He will come around in time. When you are giving the command are you placing your finger under his chest? Place it there firmly and tell him the command and force your finger under a little more till he has no choice to step up. Give him a treat when he does it(favorite nut or fruit). After a few times he will want that treat and he will step up on his own. First show him the treat and keep repeating it until he figures it out. The joy of owning one of these special pets is to work with it and enjoy every minute of it. Also give him plenty of breaks when doing it, let his mind relax in between. The best advise I have for you is BE Patient with him.

Post edited by: ziggy, at: 2007/11/30 06:17
7. hello Bruce, Welcome to the family. They are true companions for live arent they. You have alot of catching up to do with Mazy.Im sure you and him will get along like you never left. A longliner hah, I had a very good friend of mine that was a longliner out of gloster. Swords mostly, went to the grand banks and the flemish cap. His name was Mike and he was 4th generation longliner. He would tell me storys on how hard the work is and he left it to be a senior vp of sales at a pharm comp. Well nice talking to you look around there are many people that will give you great info that you need. Again welcome to the FAMILY
8. What is going on lately it seem like only bad news. With the holidays right around the corner we should be reading nice treads. It seems like an epidemic or something. I hope they find him.
9. You first need to take your time to heel from this horrible experiance that you are going through. It is like a nightmare that you want to wake up from. My heart goes out to you and you fiance. In time you will make the choice to get another bird.(when the time is right for you). There is no hurry in choosing another one. In time the echoes of him will fade and you will be at peace with it. You lost a family member and this will take time to get over no dought.
10. Hello, This is a tragety what else can I say for your loss. I'm sure he is at peace now, not that it makes it easier for you. Keep your head up while you greave this was no way your fault. The beautiful thing in times like this is that you have to keep him in your heart. The memories you have with him will last forever. He was a beautiful bird, by the pictures you can tell that he was a very happy and loving bird living with you. You are a loving household that took this little angel in and raised him to be a great companion to you and your family. In the end you did everything you could to save his live. But the man upstairs took him to be your guardian angel, and thats what he will be. In the word of the church only the GOOD DIE YOUNG and im sure thats why he was taken from you. Please dont give up on getting another bird after your greaving is over( It is never over), there are so many birds out there that need a loving home. I am certain that your home will be a great home for another. His little heart was not good for him but in his heart he was a loving and careing soul. That is more than he could handle and your heart is now broken. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten. Agian my words are here to help you through this rough time, but only you can really feel the effects of this great loss. I will keep you in my prayers and also Rafikki. He is in a much better place now remember that. Please let us know when all the test results are final. We woulg love for you to stay here and talk with us if you would like to. Agian I am so SORRY for YOUR LOSS

15. Welcome to the family. You will love it here. We love new babies and new friends to talk to. Keep sending the pics also. Agian welcome to the family:) :P
16. Great post Kristin I love it. He looks so happy there. My boys run from the water I could never get them to do that. Again great video.
17. If this is a crop infection you would smell a yeast smell and then you need antibiodics for her. This also sounds like a spoiled bird.(please dont take that wrong). Sometimes birds will be out of sorts if they are not getting enough attention. Like a child that does thing that make you wonder why is he or she doing this. Greys are highly intelligent and love to push the envelope to see what reaction they get in return. My macaw ziggy is like that sometimes he sees how far he can push my wife. Never with me tho. This could be a reason for your grey. I just hope you dont have a plucker on your hands. That is a possibility also. Greys are not much pluckers as in other species. please let us know if this helps any. Re homing might not be the answer. If this is what you deside please let me know.
18. Hello Kris and welcome to the family. You can get alot of your questions answered here. Alot of very good people here to give you the best advise you can get. agian welcome
19. yes I agree with Judy they like to post up on one foot pretty often.
20. Welcome to the family you will love it here and ask any questions there are very good people here to answer them for you.
21. Hello Brittany and Gizmo, How old is Gizmo? One thing I have to tell you is that greys will not poop in there cages often. They do this because in the wild there are many predators that would find their sent and will attack them when the sun goes down. They are very smart birds and also loving good luck with Gizmo and welcome to the family!!!!
22. Yes they will grow back. Takes a little time. Dont forget he is very young also he might know how to get the flying under control yet either.
23. Showering is good for them does he have al of his feathers yet? You should shower him at least 2to3 times a week. You need to work on the perching with him, he will get more comfy with it as time goes by. Just dont totaly spoil him let him be a bird fisrt then a pal to you. This is his way to see how far can I push them.Wing are a prefrence do you want him to fly or hover? If you want a full flight bird just be careful not to loose him. It happens more then you know. I dont believe in harnests myself so I clip all of my birds wings to ensure that they are not going anywhere. But others like to have there wings not clipped. It is your bird so you have to make the disishion whether to clip or not there are pros and coms on both ways.
24. Hello HaRRo, welcome to the family. Good luck with your new companion you will learn alot here and have fun doing it. First of all the bird needs as much human contact as possiable. He (or she) needs to learn to trust you. You can not show any weekness toward the bird, they have a great memory that they use ery often. I f you pull away when he is going to nip he will feed on that. Just put your hand under his chest and dont back away take the nip if you have to. as time goes on he will learn that this means to step up. Be very consistant with the bird. Dont tease it or back away from him. He also needs time to get used to your home this can take some time also but this is also a trust thing. He needs to get his bouneries and he will test how far to push them with you. It is also important to have other people to hold him so he becomes friendly with others as well. You dont want a freind of family member getting nipped because you did not allow this from the begining. Lots of luck with him and again welcome to the family.

Playtime

Hours and hours of just playing. Ziggy loves to be played with while on my shoulder. I grab his beak and just hold it and he gets a little mad ( I love to tease him). He loves to go on the table and play with anything on it. You know chewing is very healthy. They need to consantly sharpen there beaks and exersice there jaws.
