You should not feel bad You have to work. They understand to a degree. As for you dog we have 3 huge dogs 1 Rotty, 1 Great Dane, 1 St Bernard and they are trained not to bother with the birds have you tried to do that maybe? It might work if you allow the dog to try to go near the bird (with your supervision) and see how the bird and the dog react to it. Just a suggestion for you.

Hello, First of all you should not feel guilty about having her in a cage for only 6 hours. Most birds need 12 hours of rest time at best. So you have her in a cage about half the time they need to rest. So if anything you may not be giving her enough cage time. I let all my birds come and go as they want when we are home. When we are at work we put them away for the rest time. We also have then out all night long so the only time they are in the cage is when we are at work. You should try this so you will not feel guilty about leaving them in the cage when you are at work. Some of the things I regret are as follows: 1) Not rescuing more birds. 2) Being able to volanteer more at avarys All other things are good with me and my family. We donate quite a bit of money and time anually to bird rescues. This is a great thing to do to help out fellow bird lovers and lets not forget about the birds that we have touched their hearts one way or another. It is for a great cause. There needs to be more people out there like all of us here that really love the animals for what they are and not to have them as trophys. We all care about them so much and that is what really counts.

The condition of the house they were in were unbelivable. No animal should be ever treated like these guys. There are also 30 others that need good homes if any one would like to help out please contact me and let me know thanks. The west Florida bird sanctuary will greatly appreciate it

You can get a good scale at wal-mart for about 40.00 it has grams, ozs, and penny weight. It is a good investment. You should have one and monitor his weight.

What a little angel you have there. It is good that you are feeding but like Judy said they will favorite how they choose.(hope it is you). It helps that youare helping with the feedings. I am a breeder and I let all of my family members help wih the feedings. It is not that I dont want to do it, but it is so the bird is more acustom to alot of people feeding him and NOT to get attached to only ONE PERSON. The more the better. He needs to be socialized within his human flock and this is a great way for him to become socialized. His eyes will melt your heart:P . He will be home before you know it. Good luck with him and enjoy every minute with him they grow so fast.

Molts are year round. The down feathers will be around often. In macaws and toos they molt around late january to the middle of march. Every third year they go through a major molt. In greys I think they are the same but not totally sure Dave007 would have a good answer for you about this.

Good point Judy, If you have the slightest dought you need to take him to see the vet A.S.A.P. No questions asked. A fever is a sign of infection and needs to be treated.

Hello, Birds have a great sence of taste. He is following suit of all babies. Here is a thing to think about though. As cute as it is now it may not be so cute as he gets older. Greys are very smart and have great memories so what you let him get away with now you need to make sure you are willing to deal with it when he is older. Ziggy still to this day (hes a year old) still wants to be hand fed he will try to feed off of my hand. I tell him no because he needs to know that that part of his life is over and now its time to act like a 1 year old bird. Remember you will be the one that has to make that desision whether you want to have this later on. A hand fed bird will not bite as hard as a wild or abused bird thats for sure but it can still hurt when they do nip. Food for thought. I hope you make the right desision on what to do. He is young enough to learn from now that NO is NO and be firm and consistant with it.

Hello, Greys either love the water or hate the water. You should bath them at least 2 to 3 times a week. You should have fun with it also. And so should the bird. They are clowns thats for sure.

Hello Darin, You are doing just fine. A grey will start to talk at about a year old. The noises she is making is a mocking type thing right now. She has to train them vocal cords to start to talk. Before you know it she will be talking up a storm. The t.v. room was a good choice she needs contact with you and your family. If this is the room you guys hang out in this is a good room for her to learn. The more contact with you and the family the faster she will start to talk. After a while you are going to ask " How do you shut up a Grey" HAHAHA!!!!!! She is right on track with her talking. The noises are cool though. Well good luck with her and enjoy every minute with her she will make you laugh thats for sure.

Greys are very very smart they will push your buttons to see what they can get away with. He sounds like he is sooooooo depribed of love. Dont they all. It really is pathetic at times but so cute!!!!!

I think the question is his breath and not the bird. If there is a yeast smell or a sour beer smell that is a sign of a crop infection. You need to get to a vet if you smell this. The vet will examin the bird then give him antibiotics for the infection. The actual bird smell has nothing to do with the question. The breath was the original question.
