  1. Pearl Harbor - Cuba Gooding Jr. Kind of ironic, huh Kristin?
  2. Thanks for delivering on your promise to post these photos!! It's like getting to experience it with you. I'm so glad you faced your fears Kristin, it's not easy to do. Now I'm quite certain I'm going to have to cash in on those air miles!! Karma for you honey, you deserve it!! :) Valerie
  3. Hmm...Greg, sci-fi and wizardry are not my expertise. I have read the first 6 Harry Potter books (they are delightful), but I have had the "Ring" series recommended. Have you read any of those? Are these books on the same lines? I wanna give them a try. I kind of felt like The Road by Cormac McCarthy (a good read) was science fiction. I think you could help direct me here. Thanks BMustee, I have enjoyed Where the Red Fern Grows a couple of times!! Flowers for Algernon and The Power of One sound like some great finds! Who are the authors? Now if you enjoyed Where the Red Fern Grows, you might like one of my favoites, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. Thanks for the book info!! Valerie
  4. Good thinking Dad! It will certainly help keep your thead alive and going if you go back and respond to what others are posting!! Ice Cream for you!! Valerie

  6. Gone in Sixty Seconds - Angelina Jolie
  7. Just like the thought that goes into naming a new baby, we all had the task of naming our baby greys. I think it would be lots of fun to hear how everyone came up with the name for their birds! Our Heminway was named after Ernest Hemingway for several reasons. He was maybe the greatest master of WORDS. He was a brilliant writer, thus he had a brilliant mind. His true love for Africa (Hemingway is a CAG),as well as his love for the outdoors. And well, he is one of my favorite authors, so maybe somewhat of a tribute too. I think we'd all get a kick out of hearing about how we've named our birds! Valerie
  8. My Dad (nevjoe) started a thread "cute stories" about our African Greys, so I thought since alot of us have other birds we should have a place for their "cute stories" too! Besides our CAG, we have a couple of Cockatiels (Spencer and Kathy), and a Double Yellow Head Amazon named Serpico. Serpico is very young, but was able to manage to say hello. So we were trying to get him to say other things, but with no luck. A few of weeks ago I was watching a Green Bay Packers Game (I'm a BIG BIG FAN) and decided to start chanting Go Pack GO to Serpico. He caught on to it, and now if there is ANY football on the TV, Serpico chants "GO PACK GO!" And I chant "That's my bird!" Ha Ha! Valerie
  9. In the last few years books and reading have become all the rage again after a long hiatus to television. Barnes and Noble and Borders have become the place to hang out for the yuppie crowd. It would be nice to share what books you like, what books you've read, what books you are reading or listening to on CD's or tapes. This will be a fun place to share about books we enjoy whether they are fiction, nonfiction, self-help, and so on.!! :) I myself am an avid reader. I love all sorts of books, and really enjoy when others recommend their favorite finds for me to try out. At the present time I'm reading; Let Me Tell You A Story, by Red Auerbach and John Feinstein. It is the story of Red Auerbach the famous Boston Celtics coach, also considered the father of the NBA. Not exactly a usual book for me, but the jest of it is the friendship between men. So far I'm really enjoying it. I think it would be interesting if we share our books together. Valerie
  10. Dan, this is a great guideline, but you left out one thing here. Debating is the opportunity to get information on a subject in which a person can form an opinion. THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN!! I had a fantastic college professor who pulled a fast one on some freshmen just out of high school. He had each student choose a subject they were for; pro life, pro choice, anti gay marriage, and so on. Then once the students turned in their topics, he made them do a paper supporting the opposite. Everyone was mortified that they had to write a paper supporting a topic they were against. In the end it was fascinating to see how this exercise changed their opinions because they actually had to research the facts and opinions of others. So debating can be a real learning experience if you listen to the arguments of others, and keep an open mind. People have a tendency to forget there are often two sides to everything. People let their personal experiences fog their brains. There is a wonderful book called The House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, it was also adapted into a movie that shows just how possible it is for two sides to be right and wrong at the same time. I recommend this book highly; it will change the way you look at things. By the way, it is a fiction novel; it's not a self-help book or something. Valerie
  11. OK Pops...you need to give them some fun and easy recipes like Peas and Macaroni, or Broccoli and Macaroni, quick fixes with only a few ingredients. He thinks everyone has an arsenal of spices, and can fix everything in 30 minutes like he does. Let me just say this...if you have his cookbook, I was his "test dummy" for cooking his recipes. He'd say go cook this and if I had to ask him a question, he'd go in and change the recipes directions. So if anyone wants an easy meal ask him, he knows how to make many! Valerie
  12. Awakenings - Robin Williams
  13. "For You I Will" When you're feeling lost in the night, When you feel your world just ain't right Call on me, I will be waiting Count on me, I will be there Anytime the times get too tough, Anytime your best ain't enough I'll be the one to make it better, I'll be there to protect you, See you through, I'll be there and there is nothing I won't do. I will cross the ocean for you I will go and bring you the moon I will be your hero your strength Anything you need I will be the sun in your sky I will light your way for all time Promise you, For you I will. I will shield your heart from the rain I will let no harm come your way Oh these arms will be your shelter No these arms won't let you down, If there is a mountain to move I will move that mountain for you I'm here for you, I'm here forever I will be your fortress, tall and strong I'll keep you safe, I'll stand beside you, right or wrong I will cross the ocean for you I will go and bring you the moon I will be your hero your strength anything you need I will be the sun in your sky I will light your way for all time Promise you For you I will For you I will, lay my life on the line For you I will fight, For you I will die With every breath, with all my soul I'll give my world I'll give it all Put your faith in me And I'll do anything Chorus This is my favorite love song, as it is how I feel about my sons and my grandsons. Can't imagine my life without them or there love.
