  1. Is he getting regular sunshine? I know I write about this frequently because I believe in it, but for my grey daily trips outside has really tempered his mood. Also, my husband worked very hard to be a flock member. I do not believe that greys are one person birds, and if they are, their quality of life suffers.
  2. I agree. I think it would benefit your bird to bring him along. They are so smart that the stimulation is good for them. Make it like an exciting adventure and it can be fun and a bonding experience for your bird. Good luck on the target training. I think it is the best way. Let us know how it goes.
  3. Love your stories! And yes, I would like to see the video performance. Our bird, Brutus, learned my name because my husband has a habit of bellowing it when I am not in the room. He says it just like my husband does, kind of long and drawn out. So now Brutus knows me as, "Mamma" and "Sharon."
  4. Just curious, but have you heard him thrashing about in his cage? If so, he may be having seizures. African greys are susceptible to seizures when they are not getting enough vitamin D, and then are not able to assimilate calcium like they should. This is one possibility for the behavior you are describing. My grey started having seizures and the vet suggested we take him outside for sun, at least 15 minutes a day, and feed him a cooked chicken drumstick bone once a week. Doing those two things did the trick, and he has been fine ever since.
  5. I am glad they have each other. Thanks for sharing the cute picture.
  6. We have a grey who is 4 years old, and we just rehomed a 9-10 yo Panama Amazon. Brutus, the grey, now says, "I love you Pancho." They have not interacted, nor have they shown aggression towards each other. It seems like they ignore each other. I have no idea if Brutus really does "love" Pancho, even if he says it, but he seems to know the meaning of the things he says, and he put that sentence together himself, so maybe there is something. Brutus is flighted and has never tried to land on Pancho's cage or invade his space. The other day something spooked them and Brutus flew off, Pancho has enough flight feathers that he took off too, just like a flock. I am encouraged by this. It means they are reacting like an integrated flock.
  7. Tell us Scooter stories please! He is a cutie pie.
  8. How gratifying for you to bring such pleasure to Marcus. Thanks for the video.
  9. Such beautifully expressive eyes! thanks for sharing
  10. After we moved Brutus was not interested in his toys for one-two months. I guess the new house was the new toy for awhile. Glad it went well.
  11. I woke early this morning just so I could check on Murphy's status. I was sure you got him back, but alas, you have not. I wish you all the bast in getting Murphy back. Just know, for what it's worth, that you have many people on this forum who are rooting for the safe return of Murphy and thinking of you.
  12. How fun! They do seem to perk up out in the sunshine. Imagine the colors they are seeing! They see ultraviolet light which must be mind-blowing.
  13. You are right MarcusCag, I know things are going amazingly well with Pancho. I am looking a gift horse in the mouth and I know that. I am just curious more than anything. I always thought amazons were pretty energetic as a group. But just like people, I guess, they differ as individuals. My grey is nonstop all day long and I did not expect that. I love it though---most of the time.
  14. I agree with the previous posts. I read your question and really had no clue as to anything constructive to tell you. The situation could be caused by any number of things. The one piece of advice I can give is to be observant and sensitive while you are trying to figure this out. Also, how does he act with your wife? Has his behavior changed towards her? If it has, it could be a clue that your bird's human preferences are changing. Good luck! And if that is true, it does not mean your bird will not love you also. My grey picked me as his favorite, yet loves my husband too.
  15. Thanks for the advice Ray. Pancho is just 9-10 years old. The vet says he is not overweight. Taylor's Daddy I will check out (Pancho really) the video you suggested, thanks.
  16. Pancho is doing well. He eats everything I give him, and this is coming from a seed-only diet. He especially loves carrots, chicken bones, mango, plums, and spaghetti. I am glad to see that not only is he eating good food willingly, but that he takes food so tenderly from my hand. Lately, I have been trying to think of ways to get him moving around more. Basically, he sits either outside or inside his cage and doesn't move much. He naps in the afternoon. And no, he is not sick- he got a clean bill of health from the vet. He LOVED the shower we gave him. The guy at the pet store, his second home after his first owner gave him up, said that he hated baths with the spray bottle. That is definitely not what we experienced on Sunday! We had the birds outside in their cages, and I decided to try and give Pancho a shower. I used the shower setting on the hose attachment and turned the shower up so the water fell like rain. He LOVED it! He opened his wings and wanted it to go on forever. As far as toys go, he does periodically play with various toys, but not with much gusto or excitement. Because he loves walnuts, I wrapped some pieces of them in paper and stuffed them into cardboard tubes, hoping he would enjoy the challenge. I also put one of those puzzle toys with treats in his cage. So far, no change. Lastly, I found out that the bamboo we are clearing from the food garden is non-toxic. So I brought in some short leafy pieces and placed them in each of the bird cages. Both Brutus, the grey, and Pancho went right over and started stripping off leaves. Brutus kept at it and Pancho soon stopped. I hope he will come out of the proverbial shell soon. He definitely gets excited when I play videos of singing amazons for him. Is Pancho destined to be a couch potato? I am really hoping that he is not.
  17. Congratulations! I am so happy you got Val back.
  18. I wish Jordan and Sully the best.
  19. Did he figure out the somersault himself or did you teach him?
  20. My condolences. That was a lot of work you put in!
  21. Thanks for sharing your video. It was nice to see Louie enjoying himself so much.
  22. Love the net! How nice for them to look out the window.
