Good Work Ziggy. Very Good!

Dafina gets my vote! I like it!

so I take it you're not going to see a vet? that's taking a big chance. Wathing her won't help; even if she got water in her lungs, she will look perfectly fine on the outside, do you see what I mean? What'll happen is she could have water in there nd then if she gets a chill or is under some stress, they get sick. Your bird may be sick right now and you don't know. IN a month you'll find her on the bottom of her cage, wheezing. up to you, but I'd spend $200 to be sure.

Hey Dan you're on it! yeah I thought Albert Einstein could r/w also...in fact, they suspect he had asperger's, high functioning autism.... TMI

Hi Judy, I got that advice two months ago from the shop I bought her from, they are the first ones I called of course. Karen and Nicole both(african grey pet shop) told me to do everything for her first, so I do now. I attribute that to part of her recovery. But while she is busy right now on top of her cage, assasinating an innocent roll of toilet paper, she is still plucking the back of her neck on occasion, if I am not scratching her enough. Also, as soon as I made her the first focus of my attention, I noticed Charlie stopped talking as much. You should see the look on his face. He calls to me, Helloooo; he says Joanne I love you from the other room. He is saying Peek a Boo to me right now. He is feeling very unfortunate. So I try to carefully balance it all but the unfortunate truth I'm afraid is that I should not have brought home a second adult grey. I'm not going to place him-- I'll have to try and work it out somehow. After all, she did start the plucking b4 I got him, during a stay at the boarding kennel. WHich probably started the initial anxiety. I heard that Dr. Brain Speer, in Oakley, California recommends Chamomile tea for anxious birds. I'll try that, too. Oi vey. I'm also going to try my red nail polish this weekend. I'll wear my contacts more (she may not like these eyeglasses) and if I have to, I will bleach my hair blonder again, like it was when I bought her. I'll try to look just as I did b4. crossing my fingers in hope! Hey, that's a great name for that little lost birdie in the UK! OFf I go to post it! birdmom

I of the three other greys who pluck, Buddi, Fawkes and RaeHamilton's Angie...they are all females! Does anyone have a male CAG that plucks? I am just wondering.... about gender and plucking?

Post edited by: birdmom, at: 2007/12/16 23:24

Uncooked potatoe and Pears? huh??? Is that right? Help I need to know, they eat pears.

Okay so here comes the devil's advocate. Not really but I do have a question. What about those little knots I see? Can't a clever birdie untie the knot while standing on this? Now, I do like the wooden table top playstands, those are cool. Very nice. Does your bird chew that wood apart?

Hi Kat. Yes I subscribe to the Omega 3 fatty acids theory, which is why I added ground up flax seed to the Oatmeal that I started about two mos ago. I also got the red palm oil, and I am also feeding sweet potatoes now for the vitamin A and betacarotenoids. But I've read that too much Omega 6, are not so good. So, I don't know about that Sea Buckhorn stuff but just about everything else I agree on. I give them chopped walnuts in the Oatmeal, and they only get the Oatmeal about 4-5 times a week. When I eat salmon about once a week, I give them some and they love it. I also eat catfish and Orange roughy. So we're in the ballpark. Sometimes brazil nuts are good, and macadamia nuts are okay too. They get a big Walnut about two times a week, a mostly they eat almonds which have small amts of calcium for a daily nut. hmm. enuf for now, Thanks!

Pretty baby! Hey I"m curious, whats that white stuff in the green litter box? -
Good Karma to you Talon! Thanks for the reality check, moderation was needed and you said it gracefully! I once saw an ad on Craigslist.org for a Husky female wanted in the pets wanted section. I think it was miscategorized bcuz it was taken down quickly. Get it? husky female....arrrrrrgh.

Post edited by: birdmom, at: 2007/12/14 09:00

well Ziggy, he said he just quit smoking so his smeller could be confused. I smoked once upon a time, so I know. Maybe he thinks its coming from their breath, but its really not. did you think about that? birdmom Well anyways, the only smell I get from my CAGs is the smell of their feathers, their breath doesn't smell but they do smell good. I have noticed at the Bird Shop when I visit all the other species they have, the Amazons and Hawk Heads, Cockatoos, Pionus' all have their own distinct smell. Just like dogs. So, if his sniffer is just adjusting from non smoking, I'd bet there are alot of stimuli coming at him all at once. (You know how the wine tasters take a sip of water in between or eat something to clear the palate....okaaaaaay!) In any case if you think it is a yeast, yep I'd definitley go to the vet. I give my birds acidophilus in their food a couple times a week, a pro biotic to prevent internal yeast. Hope that helps, and if you want to join a great support group see my other post below. Feel free to share  lol Joanne

I don't currently have another half, Dave but thanks for asking! Hello, I'm Joanne and I'm a smelly bird addict. It has been 9 months since my last smelly spell. Since then I having been bathing daily and enjoy it more each day of my life. We take alot of baths around here. It helps in so many ways, I am so eternally grateful to the entire universe for my baths and thanks to this forum and my honesty, I won't ever have to smell a smelly bird again. I can love my birds and myself, smelly or not just as I am. The whole bird. I think the entire bird has a distinct odor, it differs by species too. Its kind of musky. I love their smell.

Wow what a skill! That is really beautiful Joe. I have this big old playgym I bought at a bird fair in Pleasanton. It's made by RC? something... they sell them at http://birdcages4less.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?page=B/CTGY/Parrot_Playstands ITs the one called the Hanalei Hangout Playstand...but man that thing has a million and one screws and nuts and if you have to move it somewhere you either need a big truck (I have a Jeep) or you gotta take it apart. I like your hanging ones, very nice.

Wow I just thought of something Thank You! When I first got Buddi she loved my red nail polish. I haven't been getting my nails done for a little over a year now, changed occupations and not gonna pay for those acrylics. Plus, I decided it was bad, Buddi would try to clean under my nail. I also think that red lipsticks and nail polish contain lead? Anyway, I know she is sensitive to how I look and I have this plucking trouble with her. Is it possible that she is plucking in reaction to my new eyeglasses? She started the plucking during the year I got them, altho I also added birdie #2 same time. Maybe I'll wear my contacts for a month, and wear red nail polish. I'll try that and see if she stops plucking.

Are you planning to breed them? No, you just have a space problem, right? My CAGs are both in love with me and Buddi she the #1 birdie girl who is very jealous of #2 Charlie boy and since he is bigger than her and he can use his beak inappropriately at times, (his previous owners didn't shape his behavior), I'm still working on that --I'm afraid that if I set them down together she'll go after him being the pesky possessive female that she is, and he'll just try to defend himself. I think she secretly wants to run him off! He's like a guy who would be on the sofa with a beercan if he was a human, he is a big teddi bear and you should see his face when I pay attention to Buddi, he just looks like a lost puppy. Today he said "Joanne I love you". But if he is in a mood, stay out of his space! Altho I am slowly wearing down his attitude problems LOL he has a very big, sharp beak that he uses on occasion. I don't want to start something that I have to fix and due to the jealousy factor, I moved them bcuz Buddy would fly down and try to climb up Charlie's cage...like, "Where is he, I'll go have a word with him and set him straight". She looked so determined to get in his space. I was afraid he might bite her toes off, do they do that? One day I put them on the big Playstand thingy, and he came down to be sociable with her. She turned around and faced him with her mouth open and leaned forward. So I said "oopsy daisy" and put him back up on the top. Somebody was feeling a littly grumpy! I live in a apartment --like a flat and its only 800 square feet. So I moved some furniture around, stored the kitchen table and put in a round little pub table w/barstools instead, and put Buddi's cage in that space. So, now they're not side by side and I don't let them out and about at the same time unless I am staying in the room. I had to make room.... I've only had Charlie 9 months. So, I figure that after a few years they will know that this is the deal and I'll see how they do together then. But not during mating season When is mating season, anyway?

I found out by mistake, I had this big bag of sweet potatoes I didn't cook for Thanksgiving here, so last week I had to peel and cook the whole darn bag or they'd rot. So, I decided to mix it with their food, since they get bored so easily and WOW that worked great! I can also hide the red palm oil in it since its the same colour LOL. Also put some calcium in there and some acidophilus powder. (i'm getting very sneaky) So now we are all getting our Vitamin A :cheer: I'm down to just the last little bit of potatoes in my fridge. I find that the longer I have birds, the healthier I eat! I would never have eaten sweet potatoes all week long b4. Thanks to the little birdies... Uh oh I've discovered the little emoticons over to my left. lol

Post edited by: birdmom, at: 2007/12/13 09:43

Thanks Tari! OK we have more names: Gilligan from Tari, Alile from Dan MCQ, Winter from Birdmom. Anybody else? Let's not forget about the lost birdie in the UK!

OK Spooky! Yeah but actually, the boo boos are things like dates and locations, or phone numbers... which spellcheck won't catch. Thats what I was referring to as typos. Each article is spellchecked b4 cut/paste into the format, so it's not really that kind of typo. But thatnks. (typo)
