Christmas Gift Suggestion for Grey Households
Acappella replied to terryspear's topic in The GREY Lounge
Dorian got a bunch of new boxes that he dragged all over the house and started to destroy. I'll have quite a bit of sweeping to do in the next few days. Little bugger didn't get me anything. -
Happy Boxing day to everyone and their fids. I spent all day yesterday behind Dorian, sweeping up the pieces of all the cardboard boxes he got for Christmas. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. ❤️ Thank you KevinD for all you do. I'm glad you're feeling better. I've been struggling with a health issue for two years, and I know how tiring it can be.

A friend just turned me on to this idea for an affordable home made air cleaner that out performs most ones on the market. Would be especially good for those with multiple birds. Check it out.

Others have given great advice. As for potty training, my advice is to invest in some "Poop Off" cleaner. They poop everywhere, but they do tend to have favourite perching spots where you can put paper under them.

I've heard horror stories about birds getting impacted from picking at the fleece too. I wouldn't recommend one. If you're really worried, there are electric perches that give off a little bit of ambient heat. I have a friend who keeps her place plenty warm, but her cockatoo likes to cuddle up to the heater at night anyway. She has it installed on the cage side that's up against the wall so Angel can't chew on the cord.

Hey all. I know we have a birthday room, but I don't think it's getting much traffic, so I just thought I'd announce here that Dorian will be turning 21 on Saturday! That means I've had him almost exactly 18 years. I'm making a new version of his favourite toy for the big day. Happy Birthday baby bird.

Then where does their stubbornness come from lol?

When i brought Dorian home at 3 1/2 years of age, he was totally cage bound and hand phobic. It took over a year of me sitting beside of or on the floor in front of his cage. It took over two years before he so much as poked his head outside of the cage. Let Vim get comfortable with the members of your family, and let her observe things from a safe spot. I don't see any problem with letting her climb out of her cage. Lots of greys are cage defensive. Welcome to the forums.

I'll look into that tea, thanks.

Congrats on the new family member, she's beautiful.

Do you think it is harmful to Sidney? I'm really glad I don't have to worry about eggs, but I worry about him getting frustrated, and starting a behaviour like plucking. Right now I'm trying to re-direct. Put him on his playstand and then give him a walnut to work on, or I sit down on the floor and let him explore around, his new favourite thing to do. I'm surprised he doesn't say "I don't need your food" because of the # of times I say it. Sometimes I use a manzanita perch and move him around with that. Do you think I'm worrying unnecessarily?
-
Good golly. Now he's gone under my antique secretary and won't come out. I have no way to get him. I suppose he'll come out when he gets thirsty or hungry, won't he?
-
My feet too lol. I've always been Dorian's love, but lately he's regurging when I turn on the lights in the morning, when I change his food, clean his cage . . . It's a struggle to get him to step up because he'd rather regurg to my hand. When he's walking around on the floor he's the same way with my feet. He keeps crawling under pieces of furniture and doesn't want to come out. I think he's getting nesty. He gets a full 12 hours of sleep in the dark and quiet every night, and I don't touch him anywhere but his head and neck. Is there anything else I can do to discourage this? How harmful can it be?
-
Welcome back. I just came back after a while away too.
-
Hey, I'm slightly jealous of your mom too. Dorian used to love scritches, but now he starts to regurgitate right away, so I've had to stop. Kudos to your mom for overcoming her fear and finding her own bond.
-
I'm familiar with that searching foot. Whenever Dorian is startled off his perch, he inevitably lands somewhere awkward and hard to hold onto.

Dorian and I just had our first ever visit from a hummingbird as we sit out on my front porch. It kinda scared Dorian, but he was ok after being reassured that he’s "alright".
-
I can understand your worry, but they look like old feathers to me. He'll be back to his dapper self in no time.
-
I figured it out. This should work better.
-
Ok, I figured out how to post on YouTube and copied the link. How do I paste?

That's what it reminded me of too Timbersmom.

Darn, it seems to only want to play the first 30 seconds, before he got brave and walked on the scary carpet. Any tips on getting the video to work? I took it on my iPad.
-
I don’t know if this will work. I actually caught a "first" on film. CD6DD36F-78BA-44D0-A394-CB8DCE429AB7.MOV

I'm so jealous you got all those scratches! Dorian these days allows one, maybe two scritches, then that's enough. Your baby is a cutie!

Dorian has a roll his cage and his playstand. I scored a 12' x 12' x 12' box full of rolls of tape for $10 a few years ago at a thrift store, so he's well supplied.
