My thoughts as well Ronda. Now if they were coming in from the wild, I would imagine different immunities would exist in each bird in response to different diseases. But I'm not sure if that would be true for bred birds?

And of course - here's crazy girl Bella - about to pounce on me :woohoo:

Post edited by: Nychsa, at: 2008/03/02 18:04

LOL ok Ronda - point well taken, I just wish our clocks were a little better sychronized! Here's Bella attacking her "easy toy" - think she does this upside down so I can appreciate how easy it is for her to open this one
-
Oh, it's a riot Kat! Trust me! Michael, my partner likes to play with Jiggy - he play "attacks" him with a paper towel, or one of his toys (Jiggy loves it) and Bella is sitting on my shoulder, she puffs herself up like a ballon, glares at him and pins her eyes as if they were darts and growls fiercely!! So, Michael reasures her, gives her a treat and Jiggy tries to continue playing. Then when Michael pets Doc, my grehound male too closely to his face, Bella does the same thing - she really has this sense of confidance about herself!

Post edited by: Nychsa, at: 2008/03/02 16:00

Good Sunday Morning Everyone :silly: I think this morning I've decided in our new house in Florida, I'm going to put a coffee pot in the bed room and get a cup before I encounter my lovely Bella Demon in the morning  She cuts me no slack at all !! This morning, aside from jabbering non stop (sometimes she's saying a complete sentance and other times who knows what she's saying!) she decided she was going to start her own circus act, and she was going to let me know what she thought of my new methods of hiding walnuts from her (she solved the regular puzzles too easily, so I've had to get new toys that are more complicated to hide her walnut treats) So, dangling from one talon on her playtop she attempted to open the toy that had her walnuts in them. When it didn't open, She swung from that one leg back and forth attacking the toy screeching and growling at it. Then she stepped on to her play top and began to "slap" the toy with her talon   In the mean time, I've realized I'm not going to get that cup of coffee in peace and wake up, so I started to make her breakfast (she offers commentary now to that "hungry"). So, she flew over to the counter, landing gracefully on the floor, crawled up the side of the center island, and then tried to run off with Jiggy's bowl! So, we ended up in a tug of war with Jiggy's bowl, then she ran off with my spoon, and when I got that away from her, she jumped on the bowl of fruits and started pecking at the oranges, throwing peels all over the place. Finally she gets her breakfast and dives into it. So, I sit here writing to all of you when I notice things are very quiet over in her neck of the room, and sure enough, she quietly crawled down her ladder and started chewing on the window shades (we have an on going discussion about those and she knows she's not suppose to do that  ) I give up!!! Uncle - Really!!!!!

Post edited by: Nychsa, at: 2008/03/02 14:22

Greetings everyone, Well, I'm going to be making the Maryland - Florida drive myself at the end of March, and Bella and Jiggy will be in their Avian "hotels" from Avian Adventures. I've found that is the best way to transport either one of them. What I've also found is that Bella seems to put more emphasis on being with me then being in a specific location. So, if it were me Kat, I think I'd be taking Oliver along. I mean don't birds migrate to other areas? Wouldn't it be kind of like a migration? :woohoo: Cheers! Terri

Hiya Kat, That's an interesting read, but I personally believe plucking can have many different reasons (at least why a parrot gets started with plucking) and then once they get started, it becomes kind of a neurotic habit (again in some cases I believe). I've noticed Bella gets the "itchies" which I believe can be caused by several things: Since we run the heat right now, I wanted to condition her skin with Aloe. She started itching like crazy after that treatment, so a couple of days later I really gave her a good shower soaking and got all the aloe off her skin and she was fine again. Since I wasn't sure that was the cause of the itchies, I gave it another try while we were having a terrible cold snap and the air was really dry. Same thing happened. She got the itchies and I had to really give her a good soaking to get the stuff back off her. So, for Bella, I've stuck to just a good regular, deep skin shower. I've also noticed that when she does get a good deal of dander, if I supplement her diet with walnuts and flax seed shavings her skin condition improves tremendously and the itchies go away. As we all know, there are several bacteria that can cause plucking, and then of course stress factors. I also believe it is dependent on the personalities. Just from reading the posts here, the personalities of our grey babies seem to be SO vastly different. As for greys who get stressed by other species - from what I understand from the little bit of research material available on greys in the wild, greys developed their intelligence through a need to co-exist with other animals who sought food on the forest ground. So.. I think while greys may have a preference for other greys, they will work it out with other species. Bella and my conure Jiggy have certainly developed a peaceful co-existance. They do get into the occasional tiff, but they posture more then anything else. Bella in fact will defend Jiggy when my partner plays with Jiggy. Bella also defends my dogs! Cheers! Terri

Oy LOL! Well, all my casual shirts are starting to shrink something awful because I had to wash them so often - Bella bombs, and Bella beak wipes
-
Oy Jane - look out!! Well this morning she was fit to be tied again, but I got her breakfast done pretty quick and this time I added rice and beans, and a flax seed waffle with soy buttery spread and some strawberry fruit spread. That little noggen of hers is buried in that bowl and she is quietly munching away So... I'm going to cross my fingers that I can get my emails done in peace before I head down to DC ssssshhhhhhhh! Awww thanks for sharing Ronda! It looks like she's coming around no? She's not taking a chunck out of hubby's fingers when he pets her, she's just protesting, and actually, just kinda sorta in my opinion. Does she do the neck scratch? Bella is crazy about neck scratches and even pulls at my fingers if I take a break from scratching her neck in the evening. I'm definately getting the recorder finally this weekend and we'll get some posted too. I think that is a great way to share information about our babies! Cheers! Terri

LOL I will post some videos - I'll work on that this weekend. There is so much going on now in the mean time we need ot capture this on video. Bella is like this one bird stand up comedy show!
-
oh no, now that would just put me over the edge if Bella did the alarm sound too! It's enough she does the microwave and the house alarm system!!!! Maybe that's an idea - get up at 5 am when she's too tired to drive me banana wacky!!!!
-
LOL Well, I'm sure glad I love her so darn much I just laugh when she drives me crazy  Judy you're right - she is a handfull!! And she is so darn cocky and confident she IS full of herself!! Dan - I do need to get that darn camcorder this week. The kids are bugging me for Bella videos - I think we do have a sitcom going on here. You should see the looks ln the greyhound's faces! Jane your little boy sounds like he could be Bella's brother! Good heavens can you imagine having two of them running around like that??? :woohoo: :woohoo:

I don't know how your morning is going, but I'm feeling like I just had a major encounter with a spunky little grey parrot Is your grey really active in the morning? I mean down right rambuncious? Bella certainly got the best of me this morning! The first thing that gave me a good jolt was this new screech she does when ever I approach the microwave. She makes the microwave sound perfectly, but she then goes into this blood curdeling screech after she makes the microwave sound that just penetrates your brain from all sides! Then she flew off her perch and started chasing my feet around to make it clear she was anxious to get her breakfast. While I was making her breakfast, she clawed her way up the center island, got to where I was making her breakfast and started going to town on her unfinished breakfast ( I guess she was hungry!) I thought things would finally calm down after I fed her, but then she decided to join me on the couch, where Doc, my male greyhound was sitting with me, and Jiggy, my conure was on my shoulder. Bella made it clear she wanted to try my breakfast shake. So, I let her try a little. But then she wanted to try my coffee, so I pushed that aside. Still half asleep, I started watching the news, not realizing that Bella had made her way half down my arm towards my breakfast shake when she took a dive towards it, knocking it over, splashing it all over the table, the TV controls and the phone  I tried to catch her, but then she ran through the gooey mix and tracked all over the table! I finally nabbed her, put her back on her playtop with her breakfast and then she started mimicking my laugh! Now she's attacking her toys as if WWIII were starting! So my grey family friends! How is your day going?????

Post edited by: Nychsa, at: 2008/02/26 14:44

Oh my how adorable is that!! I bet everyone is excited. Cockatoos are suppose to be very emotional and snuggly from what I understand. Congrats on the new baby! Maybe he/she will warm Sweetheart up a bit no? Thanks for sharing! Terri
-
It sounds like Sweetheart just needs to clear her mind of that flight and transition. Who do you have coming home in 5 weeks??? Sounds exciting!

Hi there Judy and Ronda, From everything I've read there seem to be snugglers and others are not. When Bella and I first met, the breeders told me she was unusually cuddly. Having heard that greys are not snugglers I've been half way expecting her to become more aloof as time goes on. She hasn't as of yet, so maybe she'll stay a snuggle bug, either way, I've never lived with a companion animal who's connected with me so specifically and clearly. I think the only way I can pharse it is - she "gets' me"

Ronda477 wrote: Awww, Sweetheart sounds like she's coming around though. Does she seem like she's more approachable in the evening? I've heard from various people that the babies seem to have snuggle time in the evening. Bella can be very playful all day, but she mellows out totally towards the evening and wants to snuggle until she goes to bed. What does Sweetheart do in the evening? Does she sit with you?
-
Wow Oliver! That sounds painful Kat!!!! We should see if Dan is making merit bite badges for the Parrot Bite me Club! It sounds like you earned one!!
-
Here's a typical Bella smooz - she usually tilts her head like this so I can rub her ear.. What a smoozy girl!
-
My pleasure Judy! We have several more, but it appears I can't upload them into one post without uploading them to the photo gallery first... or I might just be too sleepy to figure it out LOL! Anyway, here's Bella going after the buttons AGAIN! Seems this is also a part of our evening routine
-
Greetings everyone! When I read that Dan's Dayo has his evening snuggle routine as well, I thought it would be nice to share some evening snuggle-pics. Since Bella is being so lovey this evening (after a fierce day of attacking her toys  ) We captured some Bella snuggles on camera. Do share yours too!!!!
-
LOL Dan! You mean Jake isn't keeping Dayo's schedule??? Geezum, can't rely on any of these conures any more!
