Hi All, I apologize for my absence. It has been a crazy crazy month. Anywho, I wanted you all to know that in the past two week Juj has met some major milestones. First, she is FINALLY gotten over her fear of water. About once a week she plays for a good hour in a shallow cake pan of water with her toys in it. It is hilarious to watch and it fills me with joy. Second, something has definitely clicked with her foraging tree. At first she would stick to one or two branches, but now she climbs all over and is playing on the ropes and hanging upside down on the other hanging toys. She actually entertains herself now. WOW! What a relief. It makes it much more possible to have her out for extended periods of time because she is confident enough to play on her own instead of constantly needing to be on my shoulder. Just wanted to give you all an update. For those who have waited to see pics of my foraging tree, I apologize that I do not have a camera at this time, but am planning on borrowing one soon.

I am so glad it is finally getting warm. I really want to get an aviator for our summer time with Juj. She"s such a good flier. I can"t wait to take her to the park etc...

Great link Sugarbeth. Juji's tree has multiple ceramic ramekins (sp?) that I put different things it. There are also holes drilled in the wood itself that I can hide things, but Juj hasn't quite got the concept of that yet.

He's really making himself comfy. Congratulations.

Congrats on Tuca. That's a fun name.

I've literally had birds my entire life. My father is an excellent cockatiel breeder so some of my earliest baby pics are of me sharing my food with baby tiels. My dad was also an animal rehabilitator for the humane society, so we had quite the variety of critters, feathered and furred, from my earliest years. The most unique birds I have ever been blessed with knowing were a clutch of baby kestrils. Oooh sooo cute. When I was 14 my dad got a call about a CAG that needed an emergency foster home. Her human mom had passed away and there was no one to take her. This CAG was 23 years old and all attitude, but I loved her. Rockelle quickly bonded with me, called me by name, and taught me more that summer about bird behavior than I had ever learned. I was determined that someday I would have my own CAG. The rest you know, I graduated from college and as a present my family and friends $$ helped me buy my beautiful Juji. My life will never be the same.

Hey, sorry I haven't been around. The tree is wonderful, and Juj absolutely loves it. She is getting bolder by the day. I don't have any new pics b/c my sister took her camera with her to China. Hopefully I can borrow one soon.

LMG, I think I know what she's talking about. Juj totally "pants" when she is really happy. It almost sounds like a little sneaze. It's so cute. It reminds me of when a baby gets really excited and makes little breathy noises.

Juji is not clipped. I love watching Juj fly...especially when she hovers. That is the coolest thing to see. Her precision is amazing. Can't wait till it gets warm enough to take her outside...leashed of coarse.
-
When I let Juj out in the morning she flies to her tree and poops there. It's a good routine, cuz she knows I won't let her on my shoulder unless she has gone poop.

I have found more and more that there are animal people, and people who just like animals. I guess I took passion for animals for granted growing up in the family that I did. I can't imagine just getting tired of one of my "fur kids".

Juji's new favorite place is the top of the fridge. She likes to knock all of the magnets and therefore pictures off. I love her flightedness though, no way we're clippin'.

Juji went on her back for me today all by herself. It was sooo cute. She was climbing all over me and just turned herself upside down. I rubbed her belly for a little while until she wanted to continue to use me as a jungle gym.
-
Man I wish I could Juj to take a bath. I tried the shallow pan idea and put some of her favorite toys in it, but once she realized there was water she flew off. Darn bird.
-
This is definitely something I've been working on with Juj. I was doing it right and didn't even know it. Thanks Dan

That video is Juji to a tee. What a snuggle bug. I hope she doesn't grow out of it.

Awesome Ronda, Karma for you.

This is something I might have to try with Juji too. She is such a proficient flyer it shocks me sometimes. I've just gotten used to her exploring for now, but this summer could be a different story.

Juji is sweeter than I could have ever imagined. She is so bonded to me, and makes me laugh with her incredible confidence (to her fault sometimes). The other day we were on the couch watching a movie and she sat a cuddled with me for 2 hours straight. Every time I would stop petting her she would lower her head for more. If I had my hand somewhere else she would walk to it and rub her head on my hand. I was so touched at how much this little life loved me. (I'm tearing up as I write this). Kaleb and I have struggled with infertility for almost 7 years, and it's amazing how my little feather child is such a blessing to me.

Juji makes a sneezy type noise when she is really happy and playful, kind of like when a dog huffs I suppose. Kaleb thinks it's so cute. I agree My foster Grey, Rockelle, mimicked my phlemy cold so well that she would hold her foot up to her beak. It was sooo cute, but pathetic at the same time.

Wow! Wonderful tips, shameless! I can't be without smell goods, and those are great alternatives.

So far the only thing Juj is notorious for is pulling off keyboard keys off the laptop in a split second. My husband didn't heed my warning and his work laptop nearly lost it's function key for good.
-
Dan, that's exactly what my husband was suggesting. I just don't want to traumatize the child. As far as the screech, I really think it is just an attention call, and I DO think that she understands being put in her cage because she changes her sound nearly immediately. It's funny, b/c she was with me at work today and didn't shriek once. WEIRD! Thanks for the tips guys, I hope this is just a phase.
