Ohh yeah. I wouldn't worry too much if you have had them that long. B)

NEVER count on two birds sharing a cage. First, if you were to get a Sun, it would need to be quarentined away from your tiel so it is going to need a cage for that anyways. Second, tiels are known carriers for diseases that other parrots can die from, so I would not have them share things for that reason too. Third, all it takes is one fight for one of them to be dead. I had a sun and it would try to kill the cats if they got too close to me, so imagine what it could to to a much smaller tiel.

I think it will be good for your grey for you to go out of town. It will be hard but not devistating, but if you were to have had him for a few years and never left and then you did then plucking or other issues could come up. Sense you will be going before your grey is set in it's ways then it will know it's normal for you to go away for a while and come back...although you will have a bird attached to you for a few days when you get back.

I would agree with everyone else on the cost. I am probably spending a bit less then everyone else here because I work at a pet store that has everything you can think of for parrots and I get a 30% discount on everything from food to toys and I also special order toys and get them at cost. Elmo is also a very small CAG...wieghing in a only 385g...so she likes the smaller toys, more like conure toys. 90% of greys though need big bird toys and at my store are anywhere between $12 to $30 bucks a pop. So just 3 or 4 toys can go over $100 easy. The cages we sell that are the size a grey needs are $350 and up. The food we sell that I get for Elmo is $2.79 a pound and I bet I go through 2-3 pounds a month. He gets 3 different kinds of pellots...Zupreem, LaFabers, and Pretty Bird...I know, Elmo is spoiled. Pellots can be $10 bucks a month for so if you buy just one kind. I paid $118 for my well-bird vet visit...including fecal and blood, but I'm not sure if I got the store's discount or not so it could have been a lot more is I did get the discount. The biggest cost of all is the grey itself. At my store Congo greys go for $1,100 and the Timnehs go for $799.

We had a Nanday conure that was brought into the store that just landed on the shoulder of the guy that brought him in. Really sweet bird. Here in Fort Myers we have wild Nanday Conures all around downtown near the river so we didn't know if this bird was recently lost or had flown free for awhile and then decided he wanted the "good" life back with people. We held on to him for a while waiting to see if someone came in with a flyer (most people do bring in lost bird flyers) but after about a month we put him up for sale and is now in a good home. I LOVE nanday conures. The have a great personality and are too cute with their bandit colors.

Well, there are a few points you should think of. Tiels and doves do carry a host of avian diseases and a baby parrot should not be around them. If you get a parrot with the tiels and dove they should not be in the same room till the parrot is older and has a fully functional immune system. Any parrot you buy should be already vaccinated against the Polyomavirus because it will take a little bit to fully protect the bird against the virus. Also, if you have had your tiels and dove for a long time and never had any health issues then it's probably not a bad idea to keep them in the same room, but if you have only had them for a short time I would not risk it. When birds carry a virus it can take a long time for it to show any indications of having it...and even then it may only show in it's feather condition after a few total molts. I won't ever bring home a lovebird, tiel, or budgie because of the risk of them being carriers for Poly, PDD, and PBFD. So basicly, if your current FIDs are over 5 years or so then it's probably safe, but not if they are new and young.

Some birds are just wierd too. There are a few birds that customers own that do sleep near the bottom of their cages. It's not a sign of illness if it's the norm for your bird, and if sleeping on the bowl was uncomfortable then the bird wouldn't do it.

Hahahaha! Geeze, that's too bad. If the pellots are not really available then the next best thing is extra fresh food with red palm oil. A base diet of mixed veggies with a good quality seed mix on the side would be just as good. I give Elmo Saflower Gold...I believe it's made by Higgins...and mix in pellots with a nice big serving of veggies and/or fruit every night.

Why thank you!:cheer: Right now I'm gearing up...there is a storm brewing and might be coming my way. I'll be double checking my supplies and getting everyone ready. Fingers crossed it's nothing too bad.

{Feel-good-0002006E} That is toooo funny, she'll probably tell me a missed a spot too!!! She won't let me talk on the phone ether without her in the conversation. If I'm on the phone she flies over and sits in a way that she can get her beak right up against the phone and chats away along with me...sometimes it's hard for me to get a word in edge-wise. :woohoo:

we just have....? I love just having hurricanes to worry about. You know it's coming for days in advance so there is plenty of time to get ready for it. There are a bunch of fires but I don't live in a really prime area for it.

still trying to figure out how to post pictures

Very nice looking grey. I put all my pictures on Photobucket and then use the {img} code to post them. That way I never have to worry about pixel size or anything. -
I never let my food get below a 5 day supply during fire and hurricane season. I also have a gallon of water for them too at all time and bump it up to 3 gallons during hurricane season. If there is a fire here then I won't need more than one because I have 4 different people that I can stay with and I can just use their water.

Here is a thread I started for the start of hurricane season. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/80481-disaster-planning.html#80511

Did I hear More Pics....hahahaha....YOU GOT IT!!! As for Phelps being part fish, this doesn't help his case. It's him and Julianne Moore in Annie Leibovitz's "Disney Dream Portrait Series". Here he is swimming in the water cube And here are a few of Phelps just lookin good...

Yeah their really painted. If you look at the bottom on the stairs you can see the ligh reflecting off the floor. I know how they did it. If you were to look at it head on it would be a V shape but at the angle it looks like it's coming off the wall.

Here is a cool painting of an optical illusion.

Some birds start later than others. My friend Sharron's grey didn't start talking till he was almost 2 years.
