Aaaah! I KNEW there was some sort of seed that was no good. Thanks, Judy!

Hi, Steve! Welcome to the club. We look forward to hearing more about Taylor & Paco. This is a great site for helpful bird info, and also lots of nice people...

Hi, All! I picked up some grapes at the grocery store today, thought they were marked "seedless" but when my son tried one he informed me they have seeds. Klaus was hanging out with me in the kitchen and expressed a great interest in the grapes (was trying to eat them through the bag). So I cut pieces of grape for him because I didn't know if the seeds were ok for him. I don't mind cutting them, but I was just wondering if it would be bad if he got a seed. Thanks, and hope you all are having a good weekend...

Here's a little funny for you guys... The man I bought Klaus from told us about a grey he'd known who was talking, but couldn't make the "s" sound. From somewhere, the bird picked this up: "He's a spy! Shoot him!" However, because he couldn't make an "s" sound, it came out: "Ee a pie! Poot im!" Hee-hee!

I'm a rookie, too. I found out by accident how to get Klaus to try new things. Just let him see you eating something! For example, I offered him a piece of Life cereal one day, and he didn't want anything to do with it. A day or so later, I was eating a bowl of Life cereal, and he practically begged me for some. Your grey may be a little stressed out for that, but I think in time as his comfort level increases, he'll get REALLY comfortable with you. Enough to flat out demand some of what you're having!

I got my new "Time" magazine today, and there's a little thing about Alex in it. It says his last words to Irene were: "You be good. See you tomorrow. I love you." Aw.

That's the great thing about having a kid ... I thought about what was going through his head: "Super salad. Wow. I like salad. I can't wait to see what this super salad has in it!" The world is so limitless to a child.

Since Klaus is not talking yet, I'll have to regale you with funny stuff my 10-year old son says... Last weekend we were out to dinner, and he ordered fish and chips. The waitress said, "That comes with soup or salad." To which my son replied, "All right!". He thought she meant "super salad."

Welcome! You'll love this place... And thank you for all you do for our country. I'm proud of you, and grateful!

It's so nice to have a support group! =)

Klaus is certainly getting more adventurous! Up til lately, he'd sit on my shoulder, quiet as a church mouse while I visit here... Sadly, the party's over for me. As I type this he is destroying my mouse pad. There's a pet-store bought bird toy right next to him, but the mouse pad is definitely more fun. He's also removed the cover for the on/off button on the monitor and destroyed the little portfolio I use when going on job interviews. He'd like nothing better than to go after the mouse itself (the cord, oh baby that cord!) but I've got to draw the line there! Hope you all are having a good day!

Yes, don't you hate it when the movie is nothing like the book? My all time favorite book/movie combo though is The Shining by Stephen King. I read the book after seeing the movie and got to experience it picturing the positively INSANE Jack Nicholson all the while...

Great video, thanks for sharing! Love your accent ... I could listen to you talk all day!

They are amazing... I feel like I'm learning something new every day with Klaus!

Has anyone else noticed this with a baby grey? Klaus is 6 months old. There are 4 of us in the household, and occasionally (twice a month) my nieces visit. The older niece fusses over Klaus and loves him. The younger niece is in her own little world and barely pays attention to the bird. I noticed last weekend, we were all hanging out, and my younger niece left the room. Klaus became a little concerned and peep-peep-peeped over it, worried about where she went. I can see him getting concerned if one of his immediate family leaves the room, but a kid who visits occasionally and rarely interacts with him when she's here? I find it sweet, if not a little strange. Have any of you noticed this type of behavior?

Ok, now I'm wondering whether Klaus is on my side, here! I went to work one day last week and left a note for my husband to please vacuum before work (he works afternoons). He said that Klaus freaked out when he vacuumed. (Whereas he slept when I vacuumed.) Lots of nervous wing fluttering and some intense "Let me out" routine (beak on a front bar of the cage, feet scratching the floor). Maybe Klaus only doesn't like it when Dad vacuums? I'll soon find out because the place needs vacuuming again, it's on the agenda for tonight.

Hi, Carol! I'm fairly new myself, but I think you came to the right place. Everyone is very friendly, helpful, and caring. Enjoy!

This is kinda funny ... We've offered tomato to Klaus before, and he was not interested. Yesterday we visited my dad, who gave us a big bag of fresh, homegrown tomatoes. My niece was walking through with one past Klaus, and he appeared to want some. So she gave him a bite and he chowed down on about 1/3 of a small tomato. Maybe he's like so many humans, who prefer only garden-fresh tomatoes...

Hi, Nicole! This is a great site, you'll be glad you joined! Love your parrot's name - Vikki. That's so cute!

Hi, Bernadette! You've come to the right place if you want a fun and friendly source of info on greys. We named Klaus after a character in a book. Think of some of your favorite books, movies, songs... that might help!

Well, Makena - if you're in Hawaii, I'd say you're always on vacation! I've not been at my job quite a year yet (it'll be a year in November) and luckily I did get 5 vacation days. I used two at 4th of July (because it fell on a Wednesday - I took off Thurs & Fri that week and had a nice, long break). For that one I got Klaus (for one thing) - also took my son to the zoo one day and to the water park on another day. Then in August we took a long weekend and rented a little beach cottage in Port Austin, Mich. It was a lot of fun, the cottage was adorable. My brother-in-law (who currently lives with us) stayed home with Klaus. Klaus actually seemed to be fine with me being away. Take your vacation if it's available, I say! Even if you don't go anywhere. I'm a middle manager, and I encourage everyone on my team to take theirs. The upper managers are gritting their teeth. Hee-hee!

I'm curious as to what you guys think about sharing food with your bird (i.e. giving him a bite of something you've bitten off of, or letting him play with a straw that you've sipped from). I know it's not a good idea if you're sick, but is it ok if you're healthy? This is not addressed in my parrot book. Thanks!

As Summer winds down, I'm thinking about vacations. Did anyone do anything fun this year? (I know, CD did, great pictures!) I'm also curious, for our members that are not from the U.S., how much vacation time do you get? I've heard a couple of different times how U.S. workers get drastically less time off. And, being the lazy oaf that I am, it actually makes me want to move abroad!
