  1. As long as there cooked this destroys the bean toxin lectin. If using canned beans, most varieties are canned in a salt solution, so rinse well before using.
  2. I can only speak for UK bands, ours give the breeders initals, the year of birth, ours say PSUK, & our number is that number allocated to that bird, could be a clutch number. Maybe other members will help you out.
  3. Klaus dont want to drop his noodles
  4. if Max is PSUK rung which is the parrot society for listed breeders the ring will have the breeders initals, the year,& a number which may be which number he was in the clutch & PSUK on it.
  5. Hi Daniel & Welcome If you need to ask a question just go to the appropriate room & post a new topic .There is a wealth of information on the site so please do take the time to have a good read through the various threads.Look forward to hearing more from you & Smokey.
  6. spence they love pasta or rice i give brown rice & wholemeal pasta, try boiling an egg ( hard boiled ) cook a little rice, crumble he egg in & few peas, carrots maybe or whatever veg you want, homemade egg rice, easy keep the egg down to once a week tho ! thats all mine get.
  7. Mark V is the size of the ring used here in the UK for greys. Each year a colour is assigned to the ring, but some breeder use stainless steel, the year should be on the ring 06, 07 etc..
  8. Glad you & Max survived the vet trip
  9. Well you have had a rough few weeks & i hope your pain begins to heal.Switching your computer on is a good start.come join us soon & tell us how nicholas is doing
  10. Emma their talons are a little like our nails,if we rip a whole nail off leaving nothing behind then it's not going to grow back, as long as there is a healthy piece left and it has a good blood supply chances are it may grow back.
  11. I wouldn't advise using any foam, a grey will rip it fairly quickly there is a possibility that some may be ingested. As for wooden bricks if they are coloured just try & find out that the paint is non -toxic. Natural rafia is great for toy making.
  12. There nice to have Mark & would confirm Max's D.O.B, parents & that he was breed in the UK, but if you havent got them then id say dont worry, you love Max dearly & a piece of paper is not going to change that
  13. Mark many good breeders are not fitting rings, my two boys are microchipped, not closed rung as we say in the UK.Many greys have chewed at their rings leading to picking/chewing their legs & infection.I have heard many horror stories where not only greys but other birds have got their leg rings caught on toys etc...I personally prefer microchipping over fitting rings.A good breeder will provide a relevent hatch certificate for your record. If a bird is lost or stolen a ring can be cut off & there is no way to identify your bird.Importing of greys is now banned into the UK,yes they were fitted with a split ring, this was for sexing purposes. You can fit a split ring to any grey if you so wished.Vets dont question if your bird is rung or not,you will find many prefer microchipping because of the dangers associated with a ring.
  14. Theresa there is a ton of information in the bird food room, please have a good read. what has he ate in the last 5/6 days ? Pellets ? seed ? fruit ? veg ? Greys are flock creatues they like to eat with you, you can either let him at certain meal times, but you need to feed him his own food to, make him a bowl up & let him eat with you, the other option is to return him to his cage when you eat.Tell us a rough day's eating habit so we can help some more.
  15. I just wanted to clarify it as new members have asked on various different threads
  16. spence a little cube as a treat every now & then wont hurt, or a little grated over some pasta/veg.I dont know of a grey yet that doesnt like cheese.
  17. Well you should be home now Mark, any news ?
  18. Jazz thanks for the update. It is great you have been able to find answers to Obi's plucking.imbalanced/over productive hormones will be one to bear in mind for future reference.I wish you well for the future with your little girl
  19. The majority of uk supermarkets do organic cheese, but you would have to read the labelling to check normal chedder cheese is fine, mine a small cube once a week as a treat or grated over some pasta
  20. After some research it has come to light that certain large beans may cause toxicities when fed raw. These beans are, Lima, kidney, soy, black, navy, pinto, anasazi,& fava. They have the potential to cause digestive upset. It is recommended that they are cooked to make them digestible for your grey.Another suggestion is to soak them for 24 hours.Personally when i soak a bean mixture i soak overnight for 10 hours, rinsing thoroughly before feeding them to my greys. Certain uncooked beans contain an enzyme inhibitor which may lead to visceral gout in birds. These beans are lima, kidney & soy.Cooking these beans destroys the enzyme inhibitor.
