this is alesia, toni's son's g/f. toni was in a near fatal auto accident. she was going down a dark pothole road and in 4ft in front of her two construction barrels that were not lit.she tried to dodge them and went to the left of them and her front left tire hit the blvd. she lost control hit a tree which broke and missed a huge one which couldve killed her. the van then toppled over on the roof. she crushed her right ankle and left wrist. she has srews and plates in both. they are looking out for one joint bone so it doesnt deteriate because of lack of blood. Shes taking this hard and crying every day. she being stubborn about putting the daycare on hold. she wont listen . she wanted me to let her family forum know why she wont be on.She misses all of you. when i get a chance i will put phots of van on. i told her she should be lucky shes alive. this is like a wake up call for her to slow her life down.thank you
alesia
siobhan it may be the angle of the picture, it looks similar to my lot,if he is grinding it on a perch etc then he is keeping it worn down naturally,i wouldn't worry too much, next time you have to visit the vet perhaps ask his opinion
Hi Emma & Welcome.
It sounds as if you love Sensei very much, Isnt it wonderful that these greys become such a big part of our life
We do need to sort his diet out by the sounds of it but being only 6 months im sure you can succesfully change his eating habits. The sunflower seed they all love but shouldnt be a major part of his diet.Start a new topic in the birdfood room & let me know his daily diet & we can go from there

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/03/28 11:57
If he eats a varied amount of veg & fruit there shouldnt be a need for supplements,if he is not eating well then you can get a vitamin supplement to sprinkle on his food twice a week & a calcium supplement to add to his drinking water.Always check the directions as a guide to feeding, but if possible encourage him to eat healthy & you wont neeed the supplements.
Dark leafy greened vegetables have a high calcium level and should be offered alongside a pelleted/ seed based diet.Foods included in this group are..
Beet Greens
Broccoli Leaves
Broccoli Stem
Cabbage (outside green leaves)
Celery
Chard
Chinese Cabbage
Collards (cooked)
Dandelion Greens
Endive
Kale
Kohlrabi
Lettuce Dark Green Leaf
Mustard Greens
If he will eat any of the above you wont need to feed a calcium supplement & if he eats a variety of fruit alongside the veggies every day then he should get all the vitamins he needs.
Please have a read through the information here in the bird food room
Im sorry but if their fighting they need to be housed in seperate cages ASAP,before one harms the other.Did you get them from the same breeder ? are they clutch mates ? if you can give us a little more information we can advise you accordingly.
Hi lovelylew & Welcome.
From the information provided it sounds as if the grey has had a good start in life.Being raised in a family environment always aids the process of having a very sociable bird.something you must continue once you have your baby home.i have no experience with shipping greys, but your baby will be fine,a little tired, maybe a little traumatized by the experience but will settle given a time.Do keep us updated.
Hi Thomas & Welcome, congratulations on your new grey Rio,lovely name.We look forward to hearing more from you & maybe you can bring some of that Irish charm to the forum
loss of down feathers when they preen is normal,As for petting, all greys are different, some dont like the contact as they mature, others contitnue to enjoy it,if she is happy sitting with you thats great
Hi Ashley & Welcome,It will be a long wait but sure worth it in the end i can assure you i followed my first two greys from eggs week by week until the day they came home.Look forward to hearing more from you

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/03/27 19:04
Has she had more out of cage time lately than usual ? Is there two many toys in there ? Are they unfamiliar toys to her ? maybe she is feeling over powered by them, try reducing the number of toys.Greys are notorious for not liking change. As long as she is eating, preening & showing no signs of illness, then keep the toys down to perhaps 2 & see if that helps.
she may well play with them to amuse herself when your not in the room, just an after thought
 mine all like making soup as i call it with their water bowls, coco especially likes to dunk all her food in the water before she eats.A picture would be good
Always buy human grade nuts for your grey, yes they are fattening but they need that in their diet, personally mine only have a few nuts each per day so yes in moderation
Fal you need to post these questions in the african grey room hun What do you mean diet is low ?
Hear is a visual guide...
