We got rid of ALL our teflon right away. IMHO it isn't worth the risk. I would never forgive myself if I accidentally let a pan overheat. I did it the other day with a SS pan. I was boiling meat and wasn't paying attention and all the water evaporated out of the pot and the meat burned horribly on the bottom. I have never done that before, and was thanking my lucky stars that it wasn't teflon. I could be typing a very different post right now. You can say you will be careful and it will never happen to you... yadda yadda. It only takes one slip, one mistake, one phone call that interrupts you, one tv show that sucks you in, etc. I am not directing this at anyone or trying to start and argument. I agree with BMustee, we know the risks and don't want to intentionally hurt our birds. Teflon poisoning is never intentional. It's a slip up that in the end can take the life of our babies. I AM PROUD TO SAY I HAVE A TEFLON FREE HOUSEHOLD

Frozen vegetables/fruit are typically better than fresh. Frozen vegetables/fruit are flash frozen right after they are picked when they are at their peak freshness and ripeness. Freezing produce DOES NOT decrease the vitamin and mineral content. Fresh items tend to go through multiply channels before it gets into our hands. It can go from the field, to a truck, to a warehouse, to a distributor and finally to the grocery store. This can take many weeks therefore degrading the produce. Many times our fresh produce comes from other countries increasing the travel time even more. They are handled numerous times by people, not to mention fondled many times by customers in the grocery store. We feed Makena about 90% frozen/10% fresh. Our costco started carrying a huge line of organic frozen veggies which Mak loves! When we feed him fresh produce we try to buy it at farmers markets or find locally grown products at the grocery store. For example, Makena loves fresh papaya but won't eat frozen. Since he eats half a papaya everyday we make sure to find papayas that are locally grown instead of ones that are shipped from South America (which does happen). Less travel time, less handling, fresher product! Also be careful when buying fresh produce out of season. That usually means it has been sitting in a warehouse for months at a temperature that suspends the ripening process. Ever buy a tomato, peach, or apple out of season that looks great? Then you cut or bite into it and it is mealy, flavorless or mushy? Many producers care more about getting us a great looking product than one that tastes great. So there ya have it! Keep feeding that frozen stuff!!

Happy late V-day to ya'll! Andrew and I celebrated on Wednesday. We had a picnic on the beach. While we were there we noticed there was a huge concert stage set up about 25 feet from the PUBLIC beach. So we hung out and found it was Bryan Adams! We stayed and watched the entire show with an awesome fire works display afterwards! It was a perfect free night!

My greatest achievement so far was graduating college. I was a hard 5 years and there were many times that I didn't think I would make it! I will go ahead and pass on the same question again What do you consider your biggest life achievement at this point?

I have the same feeling as FairY. Since moving to Hawaii my whole outlook has changed. Being the minority for the first time in my life is something I never thought I would experience but I am glad I did. I have also realized the value of living up everyday to it's fullest!! What do you consider your biggest life achievement at this point?

Makena's favorite meal is a blend of... Peas, papaya, edamame, green beans, corn, carrots and berries. Actually that is what he eats almost everyday! And he usually eats everything in order.. LOL. The edamame always goes first!

Info on Missouri's bill they are trying to pass
Makena replied to Makena's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
This kind of thing scares the crap out of me. I am so scared states are going to start banning more and more birds from people's homes!! Once one state does it, others will follow!!! Aren't quakers already banned from some states? And they are currently trying to ban nanday conures from Pennsylvania!! I made a lifetime commitment when I got my grey... I would be devastated if someone took him away from me! -
