  1. Awww Merry Christmas eve's-eve, eve and day to you too Yoshi! :-)
  2. As Judy said, Gas heat is fine. It burns clean. There are literally millions of homes that use it in in forced air units and even the old floor furnaces in vintage homes. A good Carbon Monoxide detector is a must in my opinion for all homes whether they have parrots or not.
  3. Sindbad wrote: Those dark thoughts and apprehension are normal...I know and have been through it 2x unfortunately. It is like losing a child. I am praying for a swift return. The others have given good advice. yes, do place his cage in open view where you suspect he may be. Place the posters up as others already mentioned AND advertise a Good $$$$ Reward for retuning him if found and a smaller reward if they have him "In Sight" and you get there and can in fact see him. Post notices on parrots 911, craigslist etc. for our area. Many people watch those and do look for your Parrot. Also, many people that have aviaries outside seem to attract birds when they are lost and will check all these different sites when a bird shows up. They know how broken hearted the owner is to get them back. Godspeed to you in this search.
  4. It sounds like the trip is going very well for the first of such a travel adventure with Paco. Love the singing along and the trip you have described so far. Thanks for sharing this and you two have a safe and Merry Christmas!! :-) PS: We are expecting atleast a photo journal and videos would be even better.
  5. I do not measure the Harrisons. I just put in about 10 or 15 cubes and call it good. My Grey wastes 90%, as you describe. I also give him a seed mix by Kaytee called Fiesta blend. They need protein and if they are not eating the pellets well, they need some seeds and nuts, especially when molting. Greys need around 18 to 20 % protein from their diet daily. The veggies provide the vitamins they need.
  6. Greyt Photos! Thanks for sharing them. You have one very cute young grey there. :-)
  7. It is normal and when they get going the true Grey comes out..... The pterodactyl!!
  8. Your morning laugh.....Enjoy!@! :-)
  9. Awww, great photos of the two meeting. I do hope they become good friends. Conures are very friendly birds. Hopefully since your grey is so young, they will keep a good relationship in the long future ahead. :-) Thanks for sharing these photos.
  10. What is a "Lessor Schalkie"? Never heard of it and a web-search comes up with no results. :-) They will introduce thamselves on their own terms. Do as Ecodweeb suggested to let them become familiar with one another at a distance. Jealousy is normal for all critters. :-)
  11. I am glad this rescue story of the Whale and also Dee's story of the Chipmunk has made an impact. We are stewards of this planet and all it's living creatures. It is always good to see the best in humanity in inspiring true storied like these. These sentient beings are "Self Aware" and appreciate deeply when rescued in most cases. Please do share with all you know. :-)
  12. Is your Grey flighted? if not and that perch is swinging, he will of course lose balance, especially if the diameter is to large for him to get a good grasp on. The other thing is he is afraid, nervous etcetera and that makes them more clumsy than they already are. It took 3 weeks for my 2 year old flighted grey to step on to his new T-Stand. Bismark is much more adventurous than many cautious greys. :-)
  13. Awww, loved the video. Now I have another favorite Youtube link. Thanks for sharing this and karma. Merry Christmas.

    Sad

I am sorry to hear of the huge let down. The positive side of this. Is you have learned a ton anout greys and also about a mature grey and what rehoming takes. Here in San Jose, http://www.mickaboo.com/our-birds/index.html is the rescue organization to go to. They are huge and have many birds in need of homes. However, they presently do not have any Greys. They have very helpful staff you can call or go visit and they will be more than happy to give you the local breeders they would reccomend. If you need help from me, PM me and I will give you my contact details. I am normally in San Jose working M-F and return home on weekends, except for holidays.
  15. Hey, just teach him the right timing for the nose blow. Do this when watching movies and when they reach sad parts, have Harvey blow his nose etc. Sorry youve been under the weather. Harvey is VERY high empathic senses, even down to the nose runs. ;-)
  16. Supernova wrote: Layaway is a program large stores like sears and Penney's used to offer many years ago. The program is for people that do not have the money to pay for something. So the "Lay it away" for you. You then go in and make payments as you have the money. Once you have it paid off, they give it to you. It has just recently been resurrected due to the economy being trashed here and millions of people with very low amounts of extra cash and-or no credit cards with available cash left on them.
  17. I know this is not a Grey. But since this is a story of a remarkable rescue. I thought I woul dpost it here. "The Whale" A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth. A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate Bridge SF) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her--a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same. May you, and all those you love, be so fortunate... To be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude. I pass this on to you, my friend, in the same spirit. Hugs. Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Love truly,Laugh uncontrollably... Never regret anything that made you smile. :-)
  18. MEN SHOPPING.... After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target. Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women she loves to browse. Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target. Dear Mrs. Samuel, Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Samuel, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras. 1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people's carts when they weren't looking. 2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in House wares to go off at 5-minute intervals. 3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom. 4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, 'Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away'. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money. 5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway. 6. August 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area. 7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged. 8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?' EMTs were called. 9. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose. 10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were. 11. October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the 'Mission Impossible' theme. 12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his 'Madonna look'by using different sizes of funnels. 13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!' 14. October 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed 'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!' And last, but certainly not least: 15.October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here!!!' You Ladies have been warned!!!! - Dan
  19. Another cute video of emma. Normally, unless there is something on the bottom of the cage they wish to play with or retrive like a piece of food. They stay up, as you describe.
  20. GreYt Videos of Emma. They do love those balls with bells, don't they. :-) We keep several around the house and in dayos cage. I also have a few with leather put through 2 of the holes and about 16 inches long. They love to climb down the leather and just kill that ball. Thanks for sharing these videos.
  21. Congratulations on Georgie being home! Yes, babies will lay down and sleep as you describe. Adults will also do this if they have a place they are comfortable doing so and feel safe. :-)
  22. GreYt photos of Ben having a good time with those toys in her cage. Thanks for posting these photos Bernie. :-)
  23. Dee - You, the Breeders and your vet all displayed "Honor Respect and Strength". Thank for hanging in there and staying here to benefit us all in your hour of darkness. You truly are a "Light" in the dark. God Bless - Dan
  24. Thank You Dee for staying with the forum, in spite of the pain and loss I know you feel. We feel it along with you. You and Juno have been a big part of this forum from when you first started looking into to getting a Grey. To now. I believe I speak for us all when I say "We are shattered and sad". YOur breeders have certainly been there for you also and please pass on my thanks to them for being your friends and there for in ways most breeders are not. I look forward to your continuing here and have always appreciated your posts, knowledge and wisdom. Along with a GreYt sense of humor and hilarious photos of yourself. :-) God Bless you Dee!
