Sara, I suggest you start taking her on road trips, they don't have to be long ones, just to places she might enjoy to get her used to the cage. Show her that getting into the travel cage does not necessarily mean a visit to the vet or for a trim, but can be somewhere fun.

I agree with the previous two posters, I don't think there is a difference in the intelligence just the looks.

A bird would be nice, even any kind of bird, you can live with that couldn't you? I have a hummingbird and would like to have a grey but I wouldn't want it as big as Joes and so it would lose a lot of detail that way. Maybe I could go with having her name tattooed on me somewhere.

Josey does not mind being in her travel cage, I guess she knows she is going somewhere with me, since I occasionally take her to work and with me when I visit my son.

I predict that Makena will be just fine, Kristin.

I have taken Josey for 4+ hour car rides and she does just fine, either plays or sits and talks and makes other vocal sounds.

This is the age where they assert their independence so they will get nippy, but like BMustee stated let her know she is not in control and turn your back on her for a bit. She will eventually get thru this phase but it can be a trying time for you both.
