  1. I think you might be a little bit excited and you should be, this is an awesome occasion for you, like bringing a new baby home, only a bird baby. I am so happy for you and I know you can't wait but it will be here soon. You have found a wonderful breeder, if only all of them could be so generous and caring and she is getting some advertisement here on this forum. You are scoring on all counts here with the purchase of the cages, you got a good deal, and now you are ready for the homecoming. Thanks for sharing the newest picture of Sugar, she is a beautiful grey and I know you are a very proud Momma right now.
  2. One week is not long enough to gain his trust, it takes months and months to build that bond and he is scared right now so give him some space and take it easy. Talk to him in a soft voice and like already mentioned, don't react to the screaming it will only reinforce it. Ignore it and reward the silent periods so he knows that being quiet gets more attention. You should be able to find more about him from that band on his leg.
  3. Candles especially scented ones are not to be used around greys for they can harm their respiratory systems, they are much more sensitive to them than we are. Not to mention the danger of an open flame, and incense would have the same danger for them. There is another thread here that answers these questions already, I will see if I can find it for you.
  4. Hello, Bermondseylad, why don't you introduce yourself and tell us a little more about you and this new grey you have, it will help us get to know you better.
  5. I am so sorry for your loss of Mikka, and that sickens me to think of the possible abuse he may have suffered before he came to you. How anyone could do that to him or anything is beyond me, my heart goes out to you for I know how you must feel. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and know that Mikka is resting in peace now knowing that you loved him.
  6. Yes FairY, I would like for you to see if we could get it changed for us here in the US, for I think most of the members are here in North America and that way it would benefit the most people. Thanks.
  7. Good job Penny, we can always count on you for getting it done. {Love-000200BF}
  8. Hello and welcome to the family, Clay, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about this grey you hope to get. I hope you are researching and reading all you can about greys so you will know what you are getting into. You don't say whether you have had any kind of birds before but it is a decision that is not to be taken lightly. I am not trying to talk you out of it but it is a lifetime committment so I want you to be sure this is what you want. We have many threads here on various topics that you can read at your leisure for lots of useful information and a book I recommend you read is "For The Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker, it is full of helpful information on all aspects of grey ownership. Why don't you tell us a little more information about yourself, whether you have had birds before, if so what kind, so we can get to know you a little better and maybe give you the best advice we have to offer.
  9. Hello and welcome to the family, Kathy, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about this special grey you have coming into your life. I am always so in awe of anyone who can open their heart to one with some type of handicap as this one has. You have chosen an excellent book to read on greys, that is the first one I would recommend to new grey owners, and it is filled with valuable information. You will also find lots of useful information here in our many threads on various topics, read thru them at your leisure. You are correct that you do not spend any more time with them as babies that you cannot maintain for the rest of their life, they get used to it and then if you cannot keep it up behavior problems can develop. Thats nice that you can work out of your home and he will love having the company and you can have him out of his cage for as long as you like, he really only needs the cage for when you are not at home and at night. I can tell that you are very excited and you should be, it is like bringing home a new baby, and I am very happy for you, I know you are going to really enjoy this bird and love it with all your heart. If you have a picture you would like to share with us we would love to see it, we like to admire the babies, they are so adorable.
  10. On second thought maybe you need a backhoe.:woohoo:
  11. Hello Kathy and it does seem like you are head over heels for this grey and yes they can adapt to having missing toes, he does not know he is different from the others. I would be concerned about the cere holes being clogged up or with matter closing them up, I would certainly want to have him checked out by an avian vet before you bring him home, it should not be like that. I am really proud of you for taking a less than perfect bird that most would have ignored and loving it and giving it a home. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself.
  12. Yes they do have a mighty bite, and mine has bitten me many times, much harder than my grey ever has but she can be the sweetest thing most of the time. She will come up to me when she is on my shoulder and kind of purr and get close and give me kisses.:kiss: :kiss:
  13. Thanks for posting that clip, I loved every minute of it. {Feel-good-0002006E}
  14. Barbara that is exactly what I do in my house, Sunny was there first and so she comes out of the cage first before Josey, my grey. And I don't have any problems with either of them, they know the pecking order.B)
  15. I think you put a hole thru the entire book at one end at the corner and put a chain thru it and hang it inside the cage. I have never done it but it would be hard to get thru all the pages but that is how I would do it.
  16. U S Marshals - Tommy Lee Jones
  17. Sure why not, hang an old phonebook in the cage for him to tear up.
  18. You got that right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {Emotions-00020076}
  19. What beautiful pictures of your gorgeous grey and the beach isn't bad either. Thanks Kristin for the lovely shots.
  20. You could always put a big towel or blanket folded up in the cage for when they are still a baby, but they won't need it after they get active and are more sure of themselves.

  22. Thanks for the wonderful idea, maybe I just will.
  23. I second that Tracy, Harrison wins hands down.
