It does take time for a grey to get comfortable with a new home and since he is older, you haven't said how old he is, the time it takes for him to come to trust you and bond with you will take longer so be very patient with him. Well let us know when he comes home and be sure to post a picture of him if you can, we would love to see him.

Laurie wrote: That statement kinka got me hot under the collar too. I would have never allowed this situation to go for as long as it did if it were me, those kid's parents would have been told to either discipline their kids or they all could go home and stay there. People who for whatever reason do not see that their kids are out of control and allow them to behave in such a manner would not be welcome in my home. I would probably jerk them up by their collars and spanked them on the spot. Honey if he does not want her bringing his kids to your house, fine he can keep the brats home with him, but if you want to continue a friendship with her then do it, but leave the kids out of it.

Well 3 weeks is not a lot of time when you consider that your baby came to you after a frightful journey on an airplane that has put a kink in the bonding process. But it takes time and maybe in your case it will be a longer process before she begins to trust you and then the bond will start to take place. Just be patient and it will happen, I think you are doing just fine. And thanks for the updates, you are doing an excellent job keeping us informed as to how things are going, I like that.

You are right Ronda, if you show a reaction when they bite you that only encourages them to do it again for the reaction. They are all going to do some testing bites to see what you are going to do but just grin and bear it.
-
In my opinion I would clip those two feathers so she cannot fly as well, it will tend to make her more dependent on you for getting from one place to another and will help in the bonding process.

I'm so happy you have Cosmo home, and from the looks of things he is looking good, a very handsome fellow indeed. Thanks for all the photos, it gives us a good idea of what he is like and I hope nothing but good times are ahead for the both of you. I think you are doing the best thing to let him settle in some first and then work with him. Don't rush it, take your time and he will come to trust and love you and you two will form a bond that will last a lifetime. Keep us updated as to how it works out and his progress, enjoy your new friend, Jimmy, he is a beauty.

No Such Thing As A Newbie Here

Hello and welcome to the family, Terri, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Bella. That was a very nice introduction and it tells us a lot about what type of grey owner you are. It sounds like you have a wonderful grey that is not the typical grey according to the "facts", but they are all individuals so therefore the typical is not always what you get. Not to burst your bubble, but you know that she may not always be a cuddler, she is only 6 months old and she more than likely will become more independent as she gets older and may not cuddle as much but then that is typical and you may experience the opposite, why not. You have already read a lot on greys, but if you haven't already, please read thru our many threads here for lots of useful information. You can ask us any questions you like and we will try to answer as best we can and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures you would like to share with us of Bella we would love to see her. -
Well that is great that they do get along, for lots of times they don't, but I would never leave them together when you are not at home, for you just never know.
-
I would just wait until the morning, she needs her sleep and won't be bothering it while sleeping. I never thought about using peanut butter. Let us know how it goes in the morning, Pat, and good luck.
-
That might just work, and please let us know if it works or not, you never know when it may come in handy for someone else's similar situation.
-
Pat you might have to contact an avian vet to find out what you can safely use to get it off, but you may have to just cut those feathers off that has the glue on them to get rid of it. How horrible for Fergie to be in such a predictament, you will have to do something about preventing a future escape or she could end up in something worse. I hope you find a solution to your problem.

Hello and welcome to the family, Rachel, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you plan on acquiring. It always a tragic thing to lose a loved one but sometimes it is best to just get another to fill that empty hole in your heart and you have chosen an awesome creature in selecting a grey. This new grey will never take the place of the other bird but you will be surprised at how easy it is to love another bird when you obviously have plenty of love to give. Please read thru our many threads for lots of useful and helpful information, I don't know what kind of bird you had but a grey is unlike any other bird. You will learn a lot from the members here and feel free to ask us any questions. We will do our best to answer any and all questions and help you in any way we can. When your breeder does have babies available, please try and get us a picture if you can, we love to look at the adorable baby greys.

Thats great news, Bronxboomer, see he just needed the proper nutrition and it looks like you are providing that now and this mix looks good too, I may have to try that, thanks for posting the link.

I love every one of them, Joe, thanks for sharing them with us. {Love-000200BF}

If you are talking about bobbing his head up and down and regurgitating his food up for you, that is a sign of affection, and rubbing his beak all over you is just something they all do. Mine does it especially after she has eaten, it get food particles off the beak and what better place for that but the sleeve of the shirt you are wearing.

Oh Joe, those are amazing shots, makes me more determined to someday visit there, I have never been to Alaska but have always wanted to go. Absolutely breath-taking photos, makes you feel like you are really there, thanks so much for sharing them with us, would love to see more if you want to indulge us further, please, pretty please.

BTW Dan, "GoodDay/Morning" topic was started by his Dad so I guess the saying the apple does not fall far from the tree, or a chip off the old block is true, like father like son. Our highs are the 50's today but the sun is shining and it will be a good day for a good long walk later. Have a wonderful time today Mario, at Busch Gardens in FL, I haven't been to that one, but I have been several times to the one in Williamsburg, VA, a very fun place to spend the day with kids.

Hello and welcome to the family, Helen, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new to you grey. You are doing the right thing in not reacting to his bites, he needs to know that you are not afraid of him and he will do it less and less as time goes by. He is testing you right now to determine if he is boss or you are. He has probably chosen your partner for the favorite person, they do that sometimes, and it is not much you can do about it if that is what has happened. Just continue to talk to him and show him you love him and accept what he gives to you. Being that he is 7 years old, he is fully mature and even if he was treated well by the previous owner, it will take time to establish that bond and to gain his trust, he is not a baby that would have bonded more easily and quickly. Seven months may not be long enough to form that bond yet, so keep working on it and I'm sure you will be rewarded. Please read thru our many threads on various topics for lots of useful information, and we have some that deal with stepping up. I think you are on the right track and by coming here and joining this forum, you will find lots of caring members who are willing to answer any questions and help you in any way they can. If you have any pictures of Bobby you would like to share with us, we would love to see him, we love to look at each other's greys.

Thats too bad that you two are so far away that you cannot spend the holiday with family, but hey you take lemons and make lemonade, right!!!! Thats really sweet of you Kristin, to fix all his Mom's favorite dishes for your Thanksgiving dinner, that is true love if ever I have seen it, and I hope you have a wonderful dinner with friends even if it isn't on Thursday. Have a wonderful holiday, Kristin and Andrew.

Martin, I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and it hurts no less for the fact that you had him for only a short time, we can fall in love deeply and quickly. Do not blame yourself for Monte's loss, you believed garlic was safe for him and in this case it was not, but like CD said, things happen for a reason and a long life was not meant for Monte. Please do get another grey, I believe you have a lot of love to give and it would be a shame not to lavish it on another one, somewhere out there is another grey needing a home and sometimes the best way to heal that hole in your heart is to fill it with the love of another.

Hello and welcome to the family, Janie, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. I am so proud of you for doing this and I am sure you will give it a good loving home for you look like you already have at least one bird from the look of your avatar, a quaker, right!!! How old is this grey and what do you mean by it stays home sometimes weeks, I ask for it helps us get to know the situation better so we can be able to help you? Since you are taking this grey in from a previous home it may take a long time before it comes to trust you and bond with you. Just be patient and give it plenty of time and you will eventually be rewarded with its love and trust. I am talking weeks, months and maybe even years, just don't give up on it, it takes time especially when it comes from a previous home. Please read thru our many threads here on various topics for lots of useful and helpful information that will answer many of your questions and know that we will help you in any way we can. When are you taking possession of this grey? You realize you have to quarantine this grey from the other birds in your house for a period of at least 30 to 45 days in case one or the other are carrying any disease that may be passed on to the other.
