  1. Hello Gbdb_kcb and welcome to the family, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Nittles. Now how did you come up with that name, it is an unusual name? I can relate to being a new mommy to a grey, you want to do everything right and I hear ya, you love her unconditionaly and that is the most important in my book. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask specific questions you may have. We do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Nittles you would like to share with us we would love to see her.
  2. Well you are making some progress and in such short time, pretty soon she will allow more and more. You are doing an excellent job with her, I look forward to hearing the small steps of Greyce's progress.
  3. Hello Codiandme and welcome to the family, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Codi. I assume you are still handfeeding Codi if he is only 5 weeks old and they are so adorable at that age. You mention you have a huge diverse flock, what other birds do you have? Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and ask specific questions you may have, we do our best to get some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Codi you would like to share with us we would love to see him especially at that cute baby stage.
  4. So thats how she survives the Alaskan cold.
  5. While in New York celebrating the Giants homecoming in the ticker tape parade you are mugged and robbed. I wish I would meet the man of my dreams tomorrow.
  6. Ronda, even though I am letting Josey's feathers grow out if you think clipping more feathers will make her less likely to fly off then do it, but this is a decision you will have to make for yourself. Did you try putting a thumb up on her feet when she is on your hand to keep her from flying off?
  7. Kathy, it pains me to hear of your continued troubles, but hang in there and I pray that your problems will resolve themselves. I don't know much about giardia but hopefully it is not a life threatening illness for greys, maybe some of the other members will know more about this. I would discontinue using the corn cob litter and just use newspaper, that is what I use, Josey can't get to the newspaper for the grate that sits a few inches above the tray. I would imagine the sunlight would be the most beneficial to her rather than artificial light and if you have some kind of travel or portable cage that you can put her in and take her outside for the light that would be the best bet. You could stay close by out of the sun to keep an eye on her and to keep the roaming cats away for the 20 minutes necessary. I understand where you are coming from when you have a husband that argues that he won't pay any more vet bills for the bird or he will get rid of it, after all it is only a bird, I feel just like you do, Lulu is part of your family and as such you could never part with her. You do what you have to but I think she is your saving grace, she is helping you as much as you are helping her. I will keep you and Lulu in my thoughts and prayers for her to be cured of this giardia and you to get this pacemaker and get back to really living and enjoying life.
  8. Bruce, I would be interested in what your idea turns out to be, would you share it with us? Dan I hope you succeed with the poop on command tactic or you will be making nightly rounds thru the house cleaning up those poops Dayo so lovingly deposited:woohoo:
  9. Which is why socializing is so important so they get used to more people.
  10. Deborah, here is a link that may be helpful to you:) http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/36364-hand-feeding-a-baby-grey.html Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and your grey.
  11. She likes the cuddles right now as she is still very young, it makes her feel more secure but soon she will be playing more and becoming a little more independent. Enjoy the cuddles while you can, you may not be able to later.
  12. I can say truthfully that Josey has not done this cage banging you are describing, what a hoot that must be to watch, but seriously if he is let out when he does it no wonder he continues, it brings the wanted results. You need to ignore this, and that will be difficult to do but it must be done or he will drive you crazy with this. Greys are so smart and learn quickly what works.
  13. You can do it Laurie, I know you can.:cheer:
  14. Thanks Heather for clearing that up for us, did she say why you should not give it to her, but I can imagine it was because of the sugar and sodium content.
  15. I look forward to seeing those pictures of Gizmo as soon as you can post them, Hanna:P
  16. Thanks for posting the pictures of both cages so we can tell the difference, I guess if the smaller cage makes him happy then that is all that matters.
  17. I am going to try to find some sugar cane from the same store I am going to look for broccoli rabe in, my neighborhood grocery store does not carry either of these items, I guess I just don't live at the right place to find speciality items.
  18. We look forward to seeing the pictures when you can get them for us but do look and read thru many of the threads for lots of helpful information.
  19. I feed Josey baby food with a spoon and if she has some on her beak, you guessed it, she flung it everywhere, but try some cooked sweet potatoes, my Josey loves them.
  20. Glad to hear that Rey has a clean bill of health so far, results of test to be revealed later but otherwise good. He certainly does well to get around and uses his beak to feel things out. I would start handling him some more if that is what you want to do, just let him know what you are doing to him before you actually do it and he will start associating the words with the actions and he will let you know if he is in agreement. He will use his beak to feel you out but don't allow him to bite you too much, tell him no bite and let him know if he clamps down too hard. He will soon learn that softer beakings will accomplish more than harder ones will. I just wouldn't allow him on your shoulder for obvious reasons, too far for him to fall and he may be tempted to grab onto something to keep from falling off balance, keep him on your arm or on your lap. As far as fattening him up, continue to give all he wants to eat and offer the more dense veggies that pack more calories per amount like sweet potatoes and such and you can always give a little extra sunflower seed too.
  21. Josey can identify with that first picture, she gets really vicious with some of her toys, attacking them and screaming bloody murder and the camera never seems to be close at hand.
  22. Jane that sounds like it was made for a video, why don't you try to capture that and share it with us so we can all have a hoot over it.
  23. judygram

    Sweet tooth

Its nice to indulge a little but like Tracy said you don't want to be at their beck and call all the time, you rule the roost so to speak.
  24. People don't give them enough credit for being so smart but he knew exactly what he was doing, the little stinker and this cracks me up, thanks for sharing this with us.
  25. Move it around all you want, he will let you know if it bothers him, but from what you described he was fine with it, so don't sweat the small stuff. Ouch, I hope he doesn't hold that against you, pinching his foot in the door, be more careful in the future, he might not be so forgiving.
