1. If I do say so myself they are beautiful Pat and I can see the handiwork of Tyco and the gang, thanks for sharing those pics with us.
2. FYI birds in need of homes as in rescued or rehomed are not usually "free", they come with a price tag to offset the expenses of housing and feeding that animal so the likihood that you will find one that costs no money is rare, very rare. As far as age is concerned, I am 58 going on 59 soon and my grey is almost 3 years old, yes she is going to outlive me by a long shot but you make provisions for the inevitable.
3. Ann Marie, just be sure you are prepared for this grey to pick one of you for it's favorite as that happens a lot but if the whole family pitches in with the feeding, cleaning cages and otherwise socializing with the bird then it will be more likely to be a family bird who may only allow certain ones to do certain things but will likely allow each member of the "flock" to handle or interact with it. You are certainly welcomed here, we don't fault you for considering another bird, in fact we are proud of you for researching to find out the right fit for your family. Its the ones who jump in and get a grey on a whim that make me mad, they go into a pet store and see one and it talks and they have to have it, bring it home and it bites the crap out of them and they wonder why. Don't worry about mistakes, we all make them, I make them with Josey but I learn from them and you will learn a lot from this site as you already have by reading thru the threads. Welcome to the wonderful world of grey ownership, you have just made a lifetime committment.
4. The way to avoid dealing with an unweaned bird is to get one that is weaned, why would you want to get one that is unweaned, no reputable breeder will sell you one unweaned anyway. You are definitely not ready for a rescued or rehomed grey for they come with their own set of problems, just because they are adult birds doesn't mean they are easier to deal with, quite the contrary, they usually are not for the novice so banish that idea. I know nothing about snakes to know if they are an animal that has to be "weaned" but you would be wise to do a lot more research about each one to determine which if either is a good fit for you.
5. SamsDad wrote: Thats a good one Tom but it only applies when they are wet, thanks for the laugh!!
6. I work full time but I still find time for my grey Josey, I made a lifetime committment to her and I wouldn't give her up for anything but since you are willing to give up yours why don't you just let the cage go with the bird too unless you are intending to put another bird in it.
7. That Snowball certainly is making the rounds of greyforums.net:whistle:

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2009/05/02 04:04
8. Snowball has struck again I see.
9. Seems several members posted about this today, must be popular but I have seen it before.
10. I've never noticed that on Josey, interesting looking though.
11. Yes she is a big grey at 579 grams and even Adaya is bigger than Josey, who comes in at around 420 to 425 grams.
12. Will take a look as soon as I get home.
13. Now that you mention it yes she does look a little plump, how is her weight, has she put on a few grams lately?
14. Greys usually like to be where the family is but if you are going to have your grey out when you are home then it doesn't matter as much where the cage is but he/she will want to be where you are and a playstand is fine for that. As far as bar spacing you don't want to go any wider than 1 inch but the cage should be plenty big so they can open their wings and flap without touching the sides.
15. Yeah it sure would be great to know if Ben is male or female but it doesn not matter as far as bonding goes. I like your interpretation of DNA and I get it but sorry you have it.
16. If you truly love your bird and wanted it in the first place you don't look on it as a chore, Josey is not a chore to me, but if you think having a grey is an effort to maintain then a grey is not for you, maybe a boa would be more to your liking since you don't have to really spend any time with a snake for it to be happy.
17. I want to see and I know others would too, please post a pic of it.
18. Thats cute of them and they have pretty much the same stance too, you have two lovely greys Pat and I know you are enjoying both of them immensely, thanks for sharing that pic with us.
19. Hello Notjanet and welcome to the family.
20. You have to move pretty fast to beat me to the punch, I noticed that post right quickly, a blank post stands out like a sore thumb but crap happens but at least you finally got what you wanted posted. I am sort of fighting the same battle with Josey right now, she doesn't have a full set of flights and she either breaks it or she chews it off but you have given me some great ideas. I really want her to be able to fly and soar thru the house but she can't until she gets all her flights.
21. Maybe he doesn't feel one way or the other, we may never know.
22. You want to sat something Jim?
23. Jamal PDD - proventricular dilatation disease
24. Hello Devin and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and whether or not you get a grey. You are doing the right thing to research thoroughly before committing to whichever pet you decide to get. I must say that if it were me, the grey would win hands down, not much of a snake person but to each his own. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I don't know about the lifespan of a boa but a grey can live 50 or 60 years so it would be a lifetime committment if you go the grey route but they do make amazing companions but you have to provide them with the right things. Also realize not all greys will talk, some people get them for just that reason and that is not why people should get them for they have so many other qualities that if they do talk then it is just icing on the cake.
25. I'm so glad he checked out ok and he certainly looks better from the picture you shared, he has more feathers now, he is going to be a beauty when he gets fully feathered, keeps us updated on him so we can watch his progress.
