  1. Hello Michellec and welcome to our family. Well it seems in the time you made your first post to introduce yourself and you were interested in a grey and now you have one before I can even make a reply so I guess congrats are in order, that was quick work but I hope it all works out for you and Nala, I am assuming her name is Nala.
  2. Hello Jamb and welcome to our family. So glad you could join us but in my opinion I would just go with a new cage instead of trying to redo one as I imagine it is expensive to do so, you can probably buy a new one for what you would spend to redo an older one. What is the name of your Cag and the Meyer's? We would love to see some pictures of them if you have some you would share with us.
  3. You have some cute birdies, I have a cockatiel also that is a rescue of sorts, she appeared in my backyard 3 summers ago and I couldn't find who she belonged to so I kept her, she has proven to be a great little bird as I was never really interested in tiels before I found her but she has changed my mind about them, excellent little companions. Thanks for sharing your flock with us.
  4. I know you are enjoying having Phoenix all to yourself right now but my guess is that he will gradually allow your husband more interaction as he gets older, my cag didn't really want anything to do with my husband in her first years with me but she interacts more with him now, not like she does with me but better than she used to do with him. Glad you could come back and join us again.
  5. Give it a little time Katie and things will settle down for Paco, she has some adjustments to make as she settles into her new home but she will get used to the household activity in time but be aware that there will still be times that something sudden will cause them to spook, it happens at my house too.
  6. Bailey is just going with the flow and so glad to hear it is going great for you two, yes it may still be the honeymoon phase and you will likely find a few kinks in the near future but it sounds like to me that you two are gonna make a great pair of buddies. Love the pictures but if you could get one of him sleeping with his bear and head tucked in under the arm that would be precious.
  7. Slow but steady progress and as Karen pointed out it may be that your bird is more comfortable stepping up on the forearm versus stepping up on fingers, a forearm is more steady to them but keep up the good work.
  8. Shelby is adorable there getting her head scratched, thanks for sharing them with us.
  9. Hello Buckeye and welcome to our family. I am glad to hear you are doing your research before plunging in and getting that grey but do be aware that not all greys are like the ones you see in those videos, not all greys will talk and do the things you might see them doing in those clips. Having a grey as a companion is much more than what they might be able to say or tricks they may be taught to do, they are complex creatures that require our time and commitment to ensure they have the proper requirements for being a happy and healthy pet. They may not always be so cool and so much fun when they bite and being parrots they can and will bite but you can avoid most by learning to read their body language.
  10. Some here would love to have your problem but greys are flock animals by nature so naturally they want to be with you if not on you but I am guessing that as he matures this will lessen some for they usually become more independent and like having some time to themselves, but think of it this way he loves you and just wants to be near you.
  11. Its good to hear she had a happy home and was loved and well taken care of, here is hoping the journey continues with her forever home but I am still waiting for pictures, how long you gonna make us wait!
  12. I knew you could do it all along you handsome fella.
  13. I hope you get the results you want with this product.
  14. I just put in enough to cover the bottom of Josey's pellet bowl and when they are gone I replace them which might be a couple of days time, she eats more some days and less others but I definitely don't count them.
  15. Birdhouse said "It would also be a good idea if you contacted the breeder &/or your vet." When in doubt just give the breeder or avian vet a call.
  16. I love hearing your voice Adina almost as much as I love hearing Emma's, she is so adorable and sweet, thanks for indulging us with another Emma fix.
  17. Ain't that the truth Ray, shame on us.
  18. I must admit Karen that I thought the same thing.
  19. Hello Bill and welcome to our family. So glad to hear you could finally open your heart for another grey, you know how awesome they are as companions and I am surprised you waited as long as you did. Please do read thru as many of the threads as you can but you probably already know most everything since you have shared your life with one before but I find that the more I learn the more I find I don't know. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Bailey when you get the chance to share some.
  20. That atom is absolutely awesome, you make it look so easy.
  21. Well congrats on having a girl named Gilbert, yes it does sound sort of strange and will be difficult for us to adjust to him being a her, gosh who would have figured but the tests don't lie, now to convince myself that Gilbert is a female, Gilbert is a girl, Gilbert is a woman, nah it still sounds strange but I am working on it, a work in progress, yeah take a walk on the wild side.
  22. Yes keep a seed mix in the cage and the pellets, he should have access to these two all the time and then you can offer the vegetables and other foods, they snack all day and should have food available even thru the night.
  23. She is testing her limits and when she does it say "no bite" and turn your back on her and walk away for a few moments, she will get the idea that she will be ignored when she does that and she should eventually stop it, as she gets a little older you will be able to tell by her body language if she might be in a mood to bite. Please read thru this thread as it gives more info on being able to read their body language: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?109373-Body-language-most-frequently-seen
