I also have a sun conure so I know all about the screaming but you got to love the little buggers. We have a bird food room where you will find all kinds of threads on what to feed and not feed our greys so do take a good look thru them for ideas and suggestions, pecans are fine in moderation along with the eggs.

Then you definitely need to back off as it is much too soon for her to feel comfortable, no wonder she is biting you, she is telling you to not push her so heed her warnings. It may take weeks or months for her to feel comfortable in her new home so allow her plently of time, let her come out of her cage by herself, never go into her cage to get her for most greys think of their cage as their safety zone and intruders are not welcome, when she is ready for more interaction she will let you know. Observe her for body language for that will tell you a lot about what is going on with her, we have a thread or two concerning that so be sure to read it. You will need to work on building trust with her and it can't be rushed, it has to be earned and take it in short steps, you will not get anywhere but backwards if you push her for more than she is willing to give right now, patience is key to setting up the trust to bond with her. Most greys are prone to stress, they don't like changes, they notice everything, mine notices if I put on fingernail polish as she freaks out over it so I never wear it. Put her cage where she is where the rest of the family is as they like to be part of the family and she can see what goes on, sit by her cage and talk to her in a soft voice, give her treats and tell her what you are doing for they understand more than what we give them credit for. I doubt she will talk for a while as they usually have to be more relaxed to do that so give her time and you will hear her vocabulary.

Hello Stacy and welcome to our family, so glad you got a grey and now maybe we can help you with some issues you are having. How long ago did you get this grey? It takes a while for a grey to settle into a new home especially when it was with her former owner for 9 years, she needs time to feel comfortable and biting you is her way of telling you to back off and that you are pushing her for more than she is willing to give at this time. A bird that has had previous homes has what we call baggage that she needs to unpack, realize she is an adult bird who is set in her ways and once you get accustomed to her body language then you two will get along better but just give her some time and space right now to settle down. Why don't you tell us more about her so we can be of more help to you, what is her name, do you know a lot of her background, did she have any previous homes before the person you got her from and so forth? You can also find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru as many of them as you can.

Thanks Morana for speaking your mind as I share your thoughts on the subject, it does take lots of research to learn enough to start breeding greys and you can never learn too much, I also find that the more I learn the more I find I don't know so it is a continuing process. Dave was just trying to tell you it is not an easy process to learn how to breed greys and he is an expert on the subject as he has been breeding them for many years. Please excuse his cynicism for we all have seen this before of people who come to the forum thinking they just put two birds together and viola they have babies. If you are serious about breeding greys then please do learn all you can and if you prove successful then I will be one of the first to congratulate you but the health and well being of the birds come first.

I have no experience myself but what she said makes a lot of sense to me, I think she would recover lots faster with amputation than trying to fix the toe, keep us informed Chris.

All I can say is "Calgon, take me away to where Cocoa is" :-)

We had a similar thread that I pulled out of the vault that tells how some of our fids got their names. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?11022-How-did-you-name-your-Grey&highlight=grey+names

Josey doesn't do much head bobbing but my sun conure, Sunny does and she will also do it when she sees me or my hubby do it just to see if she will copy us and she obliges with the bobbing, sometimes I think she is a bobble head conure!

I would strongly suggest you provide them with separate cages as each needs their own to call their safety zone even if they do get along great together. But if Willow won't leave Leo's head alone then they may need to be out at separate times or be kept from getting so close to one another. Leo probably likes the massage he is getting but he is losing his feathers in the process so nip it in the bud or he will wind up bald.

I don't get much practice with Josey for she hardly ever bites and when she has it has been mild, more of like a pinch that hurts but doesn't break the skin, I don't pull back or yell at her when she does for that would only encourage her for the reaction she gets. Mawnee, thanks for sharing your story with us.

Josey does a "click" sound that is different from other clicking sounds she makes that I know she is not pleased but it doesn't happen too often.

He was not going to be denied his fruit and putting those "scary" things near didn't deter him from his quest for more fruit so he took the opportunity to have his banana and the middle is the best part!

I don't have an amazon but I enjoyed the moment you shared with us but I am still not getting a zon.

Oh yeah man, there is all kind of goodies down there I didn't mean to drop, yum yum, must get them all before they disappear, thats a cute little red butt sticking up while scrounging around for leftovers, thanks for sharing that with us.

I didn't have the choice as my baby was picked out by someone else but she didn't take to me right off the bat but soon bonded to me after I brought her home, I was able to visit her while she was being weaned. Its nice when one out of a clutch picks you but I don't think it matters that much, once you bring him/her home the bonding starts.

I would advise you to make an appointment to get Pickle in to see an avian vet ASAP, it could very well have been a seizure but he needs medical attention and no one here is a vet.

Its not unusual for a grey to like one person over another, you are obviously his favorite and I would suspect he has baggage from a previous owner who may have been a male and he distrusts all males now, just my opinion. He is wanting to go back to the safety of his cage when he holds his foot up and going along with this is best as it gains his trust. He may never come to like your hubby like he likes you so take what you get. Be sure not to touch him on his back, under the wings or anywhere around the tail area as those are the erogenous zones and when he goes to regurgitate for you just tell him thanks but no thanks and return him to his cage, you don't want to encourage this behavior.

Hello Thenabrd and welcome to our family, congrats on adding a grey to your flock. I have a sun conure and she is right feisty herself, they do think they are as big and ferocious as a lion but most of the time she is such a sweetheart but she doesn't get along with my grey but they do provide company for each other as their cages are in the same room and same corner. There is a honeymoon phase that most go thru so it is important to let them settle into their new home and go at their own pace for time and patience will show their true personality and then you will know where you stand, you do have your work cut out for you since Lona is not a baby but you seem to have the right attitude in going about rehoming her so you should do fine. We do love pictures here so if you have some you would share with us that would be great.

I am so sorry Bonnie for your loss, I know you were anticipating this with much joy but it just wasn't meant to be, take comfort in the fact that he didn't suffer for long. There is another baby out there for you when you are ready for it, please accept my condonenses on your loss.

Hello Jodie, congrats on giving Boo a forever home and how sad he/she only has one talon, like Dave said it could have happened in the nest or been congenital but the important thing is now he/she can be given the chance to learn how best to make use of what he/she has. The first thing I would do is take him/her to an avian vet for a workup to see if any deficiencies exist and how healthy he/she is, the vet will make recommendations on the results of the tests and tell you what to do and feed him/her to get him/her back to full health. If he/she has only had that one talon since just a chick then he/she will learn to adapt to it and get around and perch, Dave has given you some excellent advice on doing just that.

Then you are a busy person with 7 kids, I would imagine you have very little free time. Does Solei have access to all kinds of toys, does she have a big heavy bell? Some greys have to be shown how to play with toys and most all of them enjoy a big heavy duty bell that they can make noise with and attack. My Josey has one and it is her favorite thing, she plays with it every day, attacking it like it was the enemy but I would never think of taking it out of her cage, its a must have. Probably the most important thing is that she is where the action is in your home, they like to feel like a part of the "flock"

Yes you need to follow this current lead but like Val said it may not be Mino so continue the search as if this lead is unfruitful, I hope Mino is found soon wherever he may have gone.

Looking at your videos does not depress me, I love seeing them and you are so lucky to have such pretty scenery to enjoy and I could sit for hours watching and listening to that waterfall, bet Cocoa enjoyed it too, thanks for sharing it with us.

Marble is a cutie pie even if he is ornery, he must hide it well. I love my little sun conure and that one in the video was irresistible, you must have a strong will power to be able to resist that little cutie, why don't you go back and get it before someone else does, just kidding as you know your limit. Thanks for sharing the pictures and the videos with us.
