  1. You might as well throw your money in the trash can as send any to "birdtricks" site so forget about that one.
  2. Koko has only been with you for one week, that is not nearly enough time for an older rehomed grey to settle in and feel comfortable, give her plenty of time and be patient with her for this process can take weeks, months or even a year. Sit by her cage and talk to her, tell her about your day and what you are doing, she may understand more than what you think she does, offer her treats and do not be too worried about her eating habits right now as you can do more to correct them later, right now you want to work on building trust. The toys you are offering her are new to her and when she gets used to them and realizes they are not out to get her she may start playing with some of them, in the meantime you can play with them yourself and pretend you are having a good time so it will entice her to want to do the same.
  3. I prefer to just cover my birds in their own cages, it works for me and whether you use a sleep cage just depends on what is best for you and your bird.
  4. I paid $900 for Josey and that was just the beginning, she is costing me more and more every day, it never stops but I wouldn't trade it for all the gold in the world, she is worth every penny.
  5. Barbara, I copied your link and shared it on facebook for it just goes to show what we already knew, our greys are too smart for their own good.
  6. Very nice video of Cocoa but my grey or any of my birds stay in their travel cage when they are riding in the car as you never know when an accident might happen and then your bird would be in danger of escaping and flying away, not that being in a travel cage is any guarantee of safety but in minor cases it could make the difference but to each his own.
  7. I have a 5 year old Cag and she has never had a bleeding incident, "knocking on wood" !!
  8. Happy Hatchday Beau, he just wanted to be different from other baby greys but he is thriving under your care, wow a two year old grey is such a youngster as my grey has already turned 5 years of age so she is a little lady now, don't spoil him too much today but I bet he gets spoiled every day.
  9. Oh my Dee, another grey may be in your future, yes things happen for a reason and if this works out no one will be happier than me, you go girl and let us know what happens. I doubt Gilbert will give you the cold shoulder but if he does it won't be for long for we all know deep inside he loves you very much.
  10. Bird Talk magazine usually has a listing of the shows and expos in the USA but they usually show just the ones happening in the next couple of months but if you google it you might find out more.
  11. Birds snack and eat all day so leave pellets in one bowl and some seed mix with nuts and such in another bowl all day so they can eat when they want. Lots of us do feed our birds first thing in the morning with some fresh foods and then in the evening some more fresh foods which will have to be removed in a couple of hours before it spoils but it is important to have food available at all times.
  12. Well its about time you paid a visit to the welcome room, most people stop in here before they get to posting in other rooms but better late than never so welcome to our family and these next four weeks or so will be some of the longest you will ever experience.
  13. So glad to hear you have moved out of that area you were in Michelle and I hope it is smooth sailing from now on. Congrats on bringing Valentine home and she is settling in nicely, now all we need is some pictures when you get the chance.
  14. Here is a link of safe and toxic plants and trees: http://www.birdsnways.com/articles/plntsafe.htm
  15. Dave answered your question in the other thread about aloe vera.
  16. We have member here who purchased their greys from breeders from a distance and their birds were shipped by plane but they were in the cargo hold no in the cabin so since yours would be in the cabin with you in a small travel cage then it should do ok.
  17. If you know the construction crew are coming and you won't be home go ahead and move him into the room where you are going to put him and turn the music up so he doesn't hear all that racket, that way you will be on the safe side.
  18. Hello Jodi and welcome to our family, you sound very excited about this new grey and you should be. Is this your first grey? Is this your first parrot? I know the wait will be hard to bear but it will be worth it so let us know more when you know more.
  19. I would growl at you too if I was that grey, you are too close so back off some and let him settle into his new home, give him time to become accustomed to the household, he has been put into a situation where he doesn't know you, he has a new cage and totally new to him surroundings so just be observant without getting too close. Allow him to come out of his cage on his own when he is ready and don't push him for more than he is willing to give for you have to earn a grey's trust and this will take time and patience on your part especially since he is an older bird and he sounds older than 1.5 years, more like several years maybe as many as five but once they get the yellowish eyes its hard to tell age.

    worried

Their beaks are constantly growing and flaking off so this is normal and do provide something rough for him to rub his beak on like a concrete perch as they rub their beaks to get rid of the flaking.
  21. Hello Michael Fields and welcome to our family, so glad you could drop in and we look forward to hearing a lot more about you and this new to you Tag you want. You do not have to worry about what sex of grey you get as that is a myth that opposites attract, I have a female that is bonded to me, it just depends on the individual bird and their personality.
  22. Your babies are flying and enjoying themselves, they have both turned into pretty little tiels and yours look great too Ray, I have no idea how old my tiel is as it just showed up one day last summer but I am guessing it is a fairly young one, probably only a couple of years old, thanks for sharing the vids and pics with us Sanggay and Ray.
  23. I just use black sheets and they cover pretty much the whole cage, Josey's is a king size.
  24. I copied this off someone's status on facebook today but it says it all, hope all fathers are appreciated today and every day. One night a father heard his son saying a prayer " God please make me the kind of father that my Dad is" That night the Dad said his prayers "God please make me the kind of father that my son wants me to be"
  25. Then do this, when you get the bird stay in one place for at least a year until your grey is bonded to you and socialized with the family members then you can carry on with back and forth to different living locations but the bird needs a stable environment for the time being or its just gonna think he is going on to a new home, you need to give the bird some stability for it to trust you.
