  1. Congrats on giving this grey a new forever home but a grey is an awesome creature even if they never utter a word as there is so much more to them than just the ability to talk, that is just the icing on the cake so to speak. Who knows why the bird doesn't talk as much now, it could be he is not as happy as he once was and going to a new home where he gets more attention and the things he needs he may open up more but don't get him because you think he might.
  2. The doves at my house will take flight as soon as I appear outside so I can't get any close shots of them like you have but where I live they are subject to some pressure when it comes to hunting season, I love their little coo.
  3. Well congrats on Saturday being the day that Molly comes to her new forever home and she is an adorable one too from that pic you shared with us, she has a little blush going on in her face and those lovely dark eyes. I wouldn't worry too much about her being a little hand shy right now as she will have to settle into her new home and learn the routine to become comfortable as she learns to trust you so give her some time and be patient with her.

  5. Congrats Jonny on your new addition of Tommy and now the real work begins. Dave is right on with his advice, your grey needs time to learn to accept you as his owner, it takes time to build trust so be very patient with him as he adjusts to a new environment. He may be more accepting of handling when he is young but a lot of them tend to get away from cuddling as they mature so you have to respect his wishes. Do not feed him anything outside of his cage so when it is time for him to go back inside put a treat inside and let him see you put it there and he may go inside to investigate as they are curious creatures then you can shut the door, bribery works wonders. Now all we need is some pictures of Tommy and I bet he is adorable.
  6. A lab is a natural bird dog but you need to supervise any time both are out of their cage and maybe putting the one up while the other is out and about the house until you know how it goes.
  7. Thats a good sign when they call you for another interview so good luck to you and hope you come on after Friday to tell us you got it.
  8. If you are going to use a harness on your grey do get one of these type as they are the most reliable, it can be a little tricky to get on them but it comes with a dvd to show the proper way to put it on and other tips. http://theparrotuniversity.com/aviator_harness_inst.php
  9. When you are waiting to bring him home it always seems like it is forever but you are so anxious to have him home but it won't be long now until that day is here, thanks for sharing the pics with us, he is getting adorable.
  10. Congrats on Peanut being a she but even though she won't have the dark ring around her neck there will still be a slight hint of a ring around her neck, not as obvious as the males though.
  11. You do have a nice looking flock of birds, similar to mine as I also have a sun conure but be careful of having them outside like that, thanks for sharing them with us.
  12. It does take a while for the feathers to come back in so be patient as they do. I would suggest that if you haven't taken her to an avian vet for a checkup you should do that soon to rule out any physical reason but it could have been due to boredom as she may not have gotten much out of cage time in her previous home. I am so glad you could give her a new forever home where she will get the attention she needs and on a healthy diet so be sure to check out the bird food room for ideas and suggestions. Thanks for sharing a couple of pics of Maggie.
  13. You can buy these perches at a lot of the bird supply places online, just google it to find most of them, I have one but don't use it because my shower wall is fiberglass and it doesn't stick too well but it probably would stick better on the tile in the other bathroom, but I just put Josey on the seat that is in the shower and that works just fine.
  14. Josey has these from time to time and I just let her take care of it in her own way unless it is bleeding then it needs removed to stop the blood flow.
  15. My sun conure has a fetish for clothing or fabrics, she has ruined any t-shirt I have worn when she is on me and she has started to chew on the recliner that I sit in at night to watch tv, the little stinker, I have taken to covering it with a sheet.
  16. Your wife must be the talk of the town going down the street with 3 birds on her.
  17. I cannot find the threads but there have been cases where a clipped bird was able to fly away if given the right conditions, if it is windy or a gust of wind at the same moment your bird gets spooked by something, it can and does happen, I don't mean to nag you about this but you are taking a chance when you take Aristotle outside without her being on a harness. I just want to let you know that it could happen for I would hate for anything to happen to Aristotle so my "rant" is over with and glad to hear you are looking into getting a harness for her, good job.
  18. I love your new avatar of Egan, he is so precious looking.

  19. If you make a big deal out of it when he poops on you or on the laptop then maybe that is why he is enjoying doing it there, you know how they love drama, next time just wipe it up without any fuss and see if it happens less and less. Oh almost forgot the reason for your post, I just wonder what the first word will be when he finally utters it but he sure is practising so it will be good when he gets it just right.
  20. Hello Ellie, so glad you finally introduced yourself and told us some about you and your fids, it always helps to know a little about the members here as that is what makes us more like a family. Be glad he rubs his beak on the perch as a lot of them will just as easily use our sleeve for the same purpose, the little buggers. He is a cutie pie all right and thanks for sharing a pic of him with us.
  21. Hello Cassandra and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and congrats on your new grey Ajax. He is a handsome fella from the pics you so kindly shared with us, yes baby greys tend to be a little clumsy so be patient while he gains confidence and agility then he will be amazing you with what he can do with those talons and beak. He should be getting a lot of vegetables in his diet so the peanuts, crackers and fruit should be just treats, also he needs grains, legumes, nuts, some seeds along with rice, some pasta and maybe a little cheddar cheese from time to time. Be sure to check out the bird food room for lots of ideas of what and how to feed your new baby. As he learns to trust you more and more he should settle down and allow more hands on but just be grateful he isn't biting you when he doesn't want you touching him as most will do.
  22. She is so pretty but I will caution you again about having her outside without being on a harness, just take a look thru the forum for the ones who flew away when they thought they couldn't fly, i know you would hate to lose her but thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  23. I have to admit I love that movie, now that I have grandkids I have watched lots of animated films with and without them and I do think of that character Sully when anyone mentions the name. Oh yeah back to the topic, I am glad that Sully has survived the comet taste test, one that should not be repeated.
  24. I am so glad to hear your other two fids are fine and your home is ready for Egan, the much anticipated grey baby, he is going into capable hands.
  25. You can also take them rawhide bones and put them in some water to soften them up and make them pliable then open up the ends and put them around the bars of the cage or other places and when they dry out they will harden back and then your grey can chew on them, gives them something to tear up to keep from getting bored.
