I totally agree with what Maggie says. There's stickys all over the different rooms covering just about all subjects. ( I put a lot of those stickys in a long time ago) and it's really sad that people don't read them. Some people think those stickys are just a decoration. They're meant to be read by the serious grey owner who wants lots of info on their bird. I'll tell you--many people are basically lazy. I can't tell you how many people come here, ask a few questions and are gone in the wind. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds. Diseases---there's a sticky. (actually more than one) Basic medical kits kept around a house---there's a sticky for that. Behavior---there's body language sticky. Pinionous food---there's a sticky for that. Recommended food---there's not only a sticky for that but also a complete room devoted to that. Bathing---there's a couple of stickys for that. etc, etc, etc, etc, etc Top 10 etc?----There is no such thing but people can read posts to find out about etc. It's the people who come around, read these so called top 10 items, leave and come back to talk about their dead birds. Example --unweaned birds. Example---seriously clipped birds that brak their bones. OP---you mention something about it being great for new bird owners. As far as me, I wouldn't give people a top 10 list since it's already there. The big secret---read through loads of info that's been put on the board by people who really care about the complexities of owning wild animals such as parrots.

Hmmmm---Lucky cock. Hmmmm--*two 'X' chromosomes * That means that he has a set of nuts, right?
-
The tiel is a member of the cockatoo species so yes, the do yell a bit simply because that's their nature. Some people cofuse *screech* with *yell* or *scream*. Tiels will yell but not screech unless the bird is kept in the same bad situation that happens to cockatoos. What's that particular bad situation that cockatoos go through to make them yell often? What's that particular bad situation that tiels go through to make them yell often? The answer is--------When both birds are constantly kept caged all the time, they'll get very loud. They'll both clingy birds and constantly living in a cage all day makes them loud. So, if you intend on getting a tiel and keeping it locked up all day--Don't get that tiel.

You're right. They all have a very high piercing shrilling sound. Their sound is even worse if a person only has one in the home. Lots of people can't take it and if you have migraines, hmmm, there's nothing more to say

I can see that you need a total refresher course. This will put you on the right track. No *thanks* arent necessary. You're not the only woman to go astray. http://www.robinsweb.com/humor/good_wife.html You can print it out and attach to the fridge.

Especially you! Lately, spending more time on your PC at this board is only showing how lax you've become in the performance of your household duties. You'll need to go over your marriage vows again. Never let there be a rift start in the house because of lazy behavior. Treat him like you did when you first started dating. Don't forget simple words such as "please," "thank you" and "excuse me."
-
Well, you're looking at it the wrong way. Because he bought it for you to make things easier you should promise him that you'll do more areas in the house which will give him more time to relax with his hobbies or give him more time to watch more TV. A wife should always know her place in the home.Pleasing the husband should be your #1 priority.

There's approx 40 types of cockatoos in existance-------98% which will never be pets. They can't exist in captivity. There's already one type of TOO that's now considered technically extinct. Years of trying to capture this type caused the classification of being extinct. The population of this TOO can't reproduce fast enough to change that classification.

1---What wud be the best diet for him. I am currently giving him mixed seeds which the shop guy had given me, apart from that I have started given him water melon, apple and broccoli but a very little portion, which he enjoyed eating, he is 6 months now and I am really confused on what to feed him. The best diet for most parrots including greys is all types of Veggies( green, darker the better). Very little fruit! Fruit is acidic and isn't nourishing. Use as a treatA decent parrot mix that contains different types of seed, some pellets and certain types of human food, different types of nuts except peanuts. Veggies can be given in larger portions but they need to be removed after a few hours because they go bad. Your parrot should have food available 24/7. With parrots, there is no breakfast , lunch or supper. They eat all day long. 2. I have 2 budgies and 2 peach faced love birds also, I have read that the cags won't learn to talk if he has other birds around him, is that true. Not true but teaching a grey how to talk involves talking to the bird while doing related things. They'll imitate what a person says when they see what the person does or did. They learn to talk all day long but the things they learn have nothing to do with people, just sounds. They also speak in their own language much more than they speak human language. That's the language they obtained from nature.

Go up to the Bathing --pt 1 and pt 2 Stickys. The information there applies to all misting ( no matter what you're misting.) as well as bathing. There's different instructions and methods of doing misting. Your bird fits into one of those catagories. Plucking or chewing doesn't go away overnight. It takes a while. Now, as far as the aloe Vera juice and the Avitech company-------I would only said to uase the juice to soften the skin, make it more pliable and possiby make the areas less itchy. I never would have said that it would cure plucking. There's no product on the market that does that but there are stronger products on the market that help a bird to lessen plucking which may eventually cause your bird to tire of the plucking due to the better skin tone. You ask **Dave recommended Avitec.com for a spray - which one would I purchase for this problem?*** There's only one product that Avitec sells for plucking. I have a feeling that you didn't see my instructions on what to buy when you went there so I'll repeat it. Type in AVITEC.COM On the left, look for PLUCKING/SCREAMING---click on it Third picture from left ( spray and jar in picture) click on it there's 3 choices 1---premixed bottle 2--small jar, powder in it (8 oz) 3--large jar, powder in it (16 oz) ------- Get either 8 oz or 16 oz jar with powder in it. Stay away from premixed bottle 1 rounded teaspoon powder to 8 oz room temp water in a sprayer. Heavily soak your bird down once a day. If any remains in the sprayer, use it on any other birds sitting around. Discard what remains at the end of the day. ================================================= If the biting is related to him being extremely agitated, that will lessen too but right now deal with one thing at a time.

The quaker parrot is a very misunderstood bird. The history of the quaker starts in Argentina, Brazil, Hondurus and other related countries. About 60 yrs ago, Quakers were accidently imported from the above countries. They weren't meant to be pets. When they reached American soil, they formed massive flocks and were constantly on the move. The quaker multiplied because their breeding/nesting is different than other parrots. Basically, they settled in southern, midwestern and northern states . In those areas there were huge farmlands that grew all types of veggies and they also had large dairy farms. The quakers invaded all of these farmlands and destroyed all the crops, mostly corn and wheat fields. Those areas were what the farmers made their money from. So many farmers and other land officials formed an agency which made quakers illegal. Orders were put out to kill as many as was possible. As time went on, different states set into motion their own rules about quakers. The rules varied from state to state. The Dept of Agriculture was involved. They invented the rules. Allowed to own--illegal to sell Allowed to sell but must be banded or bird will be euthonized Allowed to breed but can't be sold in pet stores Allowed to be owned but can't be traded to other people Not allowed to own bird--Bird will be taken away, euthinized and person will be fined Not allowed to cross state lines. Jail time may be given. So, the list goes on and on. In this modern age, the rules of quakers have eased up because they're not considered a threat to anyone even though all the rules still apply. Modern agencies are involved in many other major important things. It's not the same as the past. Today, if I were to walk into the Dept of Agriculture buildings with one of my quakers, the first things people would say are *oh what a cute bird! Does it talk? Where can I get one? The history of the quaker is past tense. In 2002 when I moved to PA, I was at a toll booth that was the entrance to PA. The man at the toll booth looked in my car, saw my 2 quakers and asked me if I wanted to sell them to him. And in case I haven't mentioned it, remember the list I spoke about? PA has the most strict rules concerning quakers. Below is that State Law link concerning quakers http://www.quakerville.com/qic/statelaw.asp My Quakers Left----Baby-------17 yrs old Right----Lola-------13 yrs old

Guess work, pure guess work. BOOOOOO on the American Kennel Club. Very fu**ked up group of neurotics. A moment of silence for the 1 amazon, 1 macaw and 1 cockatoo that were killed yesterday by someone who broke into a woman's home and mutilated and killed the birds in their cages. happened in PA. Where did we go wrong. How could we create these so called huiman beings? $1000 reward for any info

This is a common thing thing that happens to parrots. The best thing is to leave it alone. If it was seriously hurting the bird, he would make an extreme effort to pull it out. In most cases, the feather stays in that position for a few days then it either falls out, pulled out, or the bird manages to put it back in place with the rest of the feathers. no matter what, there's nothing to worry about.
-
Well, since there's only 2 types of greys that are sold and there's at least 10 different types of Zons that are sold, the comparison wouldn't be accurate if you're talking about popularity..I do know that the most sought after parrot is the CAG because of 3 major reasons 1---They]re well know for their intelligence 2---they're very well know for their talking ability 3---they're extremely quiet
-
So, so many opinions, so many good results, so many bad results, so much common sense. All the talk is about health to the bird and health to the person. People get so uptight when other people say that certain bad things can possibly happen to the birds. So much confusion, so much anger, so much attitude, some people intent upon proving a point. Well, there will never be a winner when common sense is argued. So, I'm here to give a safe altervative !! Use tongue condoms!!!!! Further information~~~~ As with any other condoms, tongue condoms may leak

So, someone posted that your bird is 9 wks old. I was waiting for your answer. As a parrot gets older their desire for constant large amounts of formula lessens. When that time comes, a bird will refuse a feeding or accept very little of that feeding. As time goes on, the bird will refuse more and more until he totally refuses any formula. There's no set age when this happens although it rarely happens to a bird that's 15 weeks or less. So a little experimentation is needed here. Lessen the amount of formula in each feeding or stop one of those feedings altogether. Replace with fresh foods that are soft such as green veggies. You can have pellets around but I wouldn't count on pellets as far as healthy food especially a baby parrot. There's ways to give veggies--cooked, raw, steamed. That's another experiment.
