  1. I've always used it full strength. I've used it on them even if they have no feather problems. Been doing it that way for years. I just used it on all of them 30 minutes ago. Can't hurt their eyes. Can't hurt them if ingested. I keep the jug in the fridge cause greys like cold fluid more than room temp fluid and that also includes bathing water or misting water. Ever spray a grey thoroughly with room temp water only to have them immediately jump into their fresh colder drinking water after getting a thorough bath?? It's the temp that causes it. I also use it on my quakers and my YC macaw. As far as birds who are pluckers or chewers go, the juice is better than water cause the skin and feathers stay more moist for a longer period of time which for a plucker or chewer, is important. 4. They won't naturally mate with each other. First, the incubation time for CAG and TAG eggs is different. It can be done artificially which I think is cruel and unnecessary. 2 birds, 2 different personalities. This question plus the answers could be understood much more clearly IF there were more than 2 types of greys. Example--There's at least 8 species of Amazons (even more). Basically, they all look alike, the big differences being partial areas of different feather coloring and some personality differences. All are approx the same size yet in the wild, a Yellow Naped Zon won't mate with a Yellow Crowned Zon nor will a DYH ZON mate with a Orange Winged Zon nor will an Blue Winged Zon mate with a Mexican Red Zon etc etc. It can be done artificially. Too bad. There's already enough parrots in this world to pick from. Dave<br><br>Post edited by: MrSpock, at: 2007/09/20 03:19
  5. Best place for a ( notice that word You is not used) person to start is from the floor in a quiet area. It might jump off and won't hurt itself if it's only 10/12 inches from ground. It's easy to repeat over and over without the worry of jumping off a cage. As the bird gets more confident, the person can go higher and higher. Also, it's very difficult for a bird to fly straight up from the floor when trying to get away. Dave Attention--Chief MOD is presently reviewing reply for any errors in presentation. "Control tower, over and out".
  6. Dan asked me to put a reply concerning this subject in this section but I really think he's mistaking me for someone else. But I'll add my opinion anyway. It's based on studying and owning greys for years. I don't believe in putting 2 greys in one cage and the one main reason I feel this way concerns different phases of personality. With 2 greys, the only thing they have in common is the color of their feathers. I've seen that when 2 or more greys are put together it doesn't allow then to fully develop all their individual aspects of their personalities. One might be outgoing. One might not be. That applies to many other things too. It's well known that they have very individual personalities. Their full potential for showing those personalities is stunted when they're together. Not only does the bird not benefit from this but also the owner doesn't benefit from this. Greys are extremely possessive and jealous type birds. That applies to CAGs and TAGs. This personality trait manifests itself as the grey gets older and bolder. 2 greys which are housed separately can bond with their owners differently. The liklihood of them bonding with each other or not bonding with each other is greatly lessened which is good for each bird. A grey who has it's own home (cage) is able to have it's own personality naturally develop and the owner of these birds will gradually see the great difference in the 2 greys as they get older and more than likely be happy with what they see. It's better to separate them when it's easy as opposed to having to separate them because of incidents that might occur. I could give other reasons but it's not really necessary. So now, Dan will have to study this reply and judge whether CONFICT RESOLUTION has or has not been infringed upon. Whether he likes it or not,he already knows that I've given him his official title and he must now live up to it.<br><br>Post edited by: MrSpock, at: 2007/09/19 05:17
  7. Dan I think you have mistaken me with someone else. Since you ask me I'll reply in the other section. By the way, my wife has recognized your method as OFFICIAL CONFLICT RESOLUTION---MOD ( moderator on duty). 9. Home Depot has those in plumbing section --they're used to mount a large PVC pipe to a small PVC pipe. In order to connect the two together, an elbow( pictured ) or 3 way or 4 way fitting needs to be used. The actual PVC pipe won't come ridged, only smooth. It doesn't have any mounting screw because plumbers don't mount them onto anything. They just connect 2 different sized pipes together. The item in your picture is capped which is sold in many different sizes depending upon the diameter of the pipe. My wife told me that many of the house contractors come into her Home Depot and purchase them when putting or repairing plumbing systems for homes.

  11. Since the animal we're talking about here is the parrot and some here will make judgements and put classifications on their parrots by taking a word out of a dictionary it's obvious that some here need the specific and official classification and other information concerning parrots. Do yourselves a big favor and play it safe and open this link. www.avianwelfare.org/issues/articles/truenature.htm<br><br>Post edited by: MrSpock, at: 2007/09/16 03:56
  12. A quick correction..anyone's wild parrot isn't *domesticated* no matter how long that bird lives in a home. Give many birds 1/2 a chance and they will fly away simply because it's wild and will remain wild until the day it dies. Parrots as well as other wild animals can be successfully kept in a home but that parrot who flies away will be extremely hard to retrieve. The same applies to snakes, lizards and other wild creatures that can be successfully kept in a house. The huge majority of parrots that escape are never found even though chips are implanted which, in the case of a bird, is a total waste of money. Just another way for the Vet to make money. If parrots are so *domesticated*, there would be no need for harnesses. People have spotted their lost parrots in nearby trees yet have never been able to retrieve them. There are people who've been extremely successful in allowing long distance outdoor flight but those birds are still attached to harnesses that have extremely long leads (30, 40, 50 ft) connected to those harnesses. Yes, people can hinder their ability to go from point A to point B. Yes, people can inhibit their ability to survive outside by taking away their means of locomotion but the one thing that can't be done is to make that wild animal *domesticated*. If anyone has bird feeders in their yard you'll see all the little birds come to those feeders in the morning until the afternoon ( quiet finally arrives)and then, they'll disappear for a couple of hrs to rest. Turn around and look at the parrots and you'll notice that they too are resting at the same time. For those that have multiple parrots, look at the parrots in the house and watch one preening then look at all the other parrots in the house and you'll see all of the rest preening at the same time. Nature is causing this instinctive behavior and it applies to wild birds be they tiny sparrows on up to macaws. The word *domestication* shouldn't be applied to wild animals whose natural instinct is to go into the wild. This being said, I'll still say that I'm not a fan of wing clipping. The debate of wing clipping will never end so I'll only say this--for those who are proponents of wing clipping, please have it done correctly so that the bird can have at least 8 ft of horozontal flight and have the capability to glide downward into a soft landing. Dave

  15. It's possible that some of the scales that he's picking at aren't coming off or the pad of his foot is a little raw. Get some aloe vera gel and rub it into the foot and pad. It's disappears instantly. It soothes a foot. Put some at the base of the claws too. Any ingestion can't harm the bird. Gel is also used on skin irritations of the bird (bald spots) Dave
  16. I'm sad to say that yesterday, my pet flea Chaco, passed away. He was retired from the local circus and I took him in as a special needs pet. He had a cracked probiscus. He made enough money while working so a necropsy will be done shortly. I hope the Vet will tell me it wasn't painful for him when he departed. True, I spoiled him cause he was very clingy. I can't imagine any flea replacing my sweet, loving Chaco.. A good thing though.. . I know he's just a hop, skip and a jump from that bridge. I'm sure he'll be happy cause he'll be meeting up with lots of dogs and cats from the past so he won't be lonely. That was his nature. He always liked playing and annoying the big guys although they constantly ran circles around him--Dave
  17. It's jute rope. Comes in a 150 yd roll. Costs about $2. I start at one end of pipe and continuously wind the rope around to the end of the pipe making sure it'very tight. Then I slip a fitting over each end of the pipe than I start another pipe. Dave
  18. If you couldn't find it,you could possibly make your own. This is the same one on a tray and off the tray. 12 inches square. Very light weight and can be taken anywhere. Just a thought.
  19. As a grey gets older, what's in that photo is exactly what they'll do when they feel annoyed or bothered with a person who is trying to pet or touch them but doesn't want to be petted or touched. The head lowers a little bit, the bird is all fluffy on head, breast down to top of tail. That body language is a warning that if the person continues, the bird will bite. The reason for the fluffing has to do with what they do in the wild when they feel threatened by other birds. Fluffing is their way of showing that they are bigger than they actually are. Many people mistake that fluffing by thinking the bird wants to be petted. Experienced owners of greys here can tell you about that reaction of the bird. Dave
  20. Not to be disrespectful but can you tell me what is so special about the cage Alex was in? What does it have to do with buying a cage? Is that cage different from others of the same size and material? Am I missing something? I went to that website to look and it's your average rectangular sized cage with a playtop made for all species of medium sized parrots. I do know that the cage is overpriced to the extreme but then, that company is one the most overpriced online companies that exist and that includes all other smaller items they sell. I checked the technical specifics plus the material it's made of and I saw nothing special about it other than the high price. If I were to add another $125 to their price, I could actually buy a stainless steel cage which is the best type of cage made for birds and also the most expensive. As far as Alex is concerned, he was a labratory animal. He was handled by many different people who had expertise in specific areas of training. He was in many different areas in the labratory that he lived in. He was housed in at least 7 to 8 different cages. He was not a pet to anyone in particular. That foundation also has 2 other greys and 1 amazon in training. That's been going on for approx 2 yrs. Dave
  21. Type in Ebay.com When screen opens, on upper left hand side, it will ask what you're looking for. Type in Bird cages A screen will open up with pictures of cages one under another.
