Breezy seems to like baths, think I got lucky.

I did try a bath with Breezy and oddly enough he seemed to prefer the shower or going in the shower with me better. They are sure all unique and different. -

She is beautiful! -
I am starting to become amazed by Breezy. This morning he treated us to "Get up! and "Let me out!" as we lay in bed. He is talking amazingly early although he is four months old and some here have said the timnehs will sometimes start speaking early. I would still think he was awesome even if he didnt say a word but it is still amazing when they speak our language. We try to repeat his little sounds back to him as well, which he seems to love. He is not speaking clearly yet but maybe I have just had lots of experience deciphering parrot speak over the years as me and Carl can hear what he is trying to say well. When we acknowledge it and repeat it back he seems VERY happy that we understood him.

I spray over their heads with a fine mist so it is droplets falling down on them like rain. It takes longer getting them wet but every bird I have sprayed that way likes it. Then I start at their feet and work up staying away from their face to get the front. -
Well, I have been reading all over the forum about readers african greys who just HATE baths but I think I lucked out. Breezy seems to actually enjoy being sprayed. Breezy is a timneh and in one of my books on african greys it did say the timnehs are from an area of africa that gets quite a bit of rainfall. So maybe it is more common for the timnehs to like water and bathing. Anyways, it is more an observation than anything, just really happy he doesnt hate being bathed as I am well aware of how important bathing is for greys.

Breezy and my husband had a good play session

I talk to my parrots just like people. They understand a lot and when I said see you soon we have to go out Breezy he understood me. I am sure of this because he looked at me then leaned toward his cage and fluttered his wings. He wanted a ride back so I took him back and I was right he swung right inside his cage and climbed to his highest perch. I think they may understand much more of what we say than we are even aware. I have noticed this with every parrot I have ever had. -
It will be a lifetime journey. I am in my mid forties so he might just out live me. I had my amazon parrot for 23 years. We estimate he was like forty or fifty years old when he died.

Thanks for recommending those threads, I read through them once and I will print them out for Carl to read, he will be very interested in them, I am sure. So far today has been good, Breezy has been very friendly to both of us. I am sure he is still settling in here he has only been here about a month. The whole idea of him telling me he wants to get rid of him was stupid, he was mad and I told him it was stupid and he agreed with me and said he wouldnt really want to get rid of him. Carl says some seriously stupid stuff at times but he has actually been pretty patient with him and didnt stay mad long at all. I think I will reread those two threads you posted about too, they were VERY interesting and I enjoyed reading them. I love greys because they are so intelligent. I dont care at all if he talks I can tell how smart he is just watching the way he interacts with his environment. My macaw is very intelligent too and what I like about parrots is they have a sense of humor and can always make me feel better if I have had a bad day.

Thanks for the advice when I wrote that Breezy bit my husband, it was misreading communication. Carl talked to Breezy for awhile then I noticed he seemed fine for Carl to pick him up so Carl did and they had a good play session. My husband needs to learn more about reading grey body language so I am trying to teach him. They are very subtle and you really need to pay attention or you can misread them.
-
Thanks! Breezy was acting scared when he picked him up so it was definitely not understanding body language. He went for a little walk in the livingroom and was sitting on my hutch I heard him peep at me and saw him turn his head to look at me. Carl said he was blending in with the room so much he had no clue how I saw him but he went over and picked Breezy up with the glove and played with him a few minutes and Breezy was happy to see him. Think he was just nibbling. Sometimes he picks up a big fold of my skin in his beak and then pinches but it is just baby nibbling not biting. I just tell him ouch and then no bite so he knows it hurts and hopefully he will stop doing that. Then I put him in time out for a few minutes in his cage.
-
He has a solution. He is handling him with a glove on his hand. He nibbles on me and sometimes gets carried away and breaks the skin but it is definitely not malicious. All baby parrots do that. I told Carl at least he isnt a macaw that beak is MUCH smaller.

I need to show this to my husband. He needs to see it.

I need to get a good video recorder. My phone takes video but I would like to get something that does a better quality video. He is talking more in front of us now and the speech is getting clearer. He is really busy talking I have a feeling he is trying to say quite a lot of things. Funny thing is talking doesnt matter to me as much. They are so interesting just on their own they really dont need to talk. So we havent been giving him lessons, just talking to him like he is a person and he is learning to talk that way.
-
Wasnt even going to post this here but I am not sure there is anything I can do but my husband suggested asking about this. Breezy just took a HUGE chomp out of him and broke the skin. He had been handling him up till now, no problem. I got a timneh rather than a congo because they are less likely to be one person birds, however I am aware it can still happen. My problem is my husband he actually suggested I should get rid of him. I do NOT want to do that but can see his hesitation about keeping him. We had the unfortunate experience of having a scarlet macaw who actually became dangerous to him when she reached breeding age. So I can see where he would be hesitant to go through something like that again. We did place her in a breeding situation and she is very happy. Reality check, the bite was not vicious. My husband is overreacting and may just calm down with time. My question is is there any way my husband could work with Breezy to get him a little more accepting of him? I told him to back off and not try handling him for a while, just work with him hands off. I actually think Breezy likes him but is just a little scared of being handled by him. Breezy is very responsive when he talks to him leaning towards him and paying close attention. He also acts happy when he sees him but is just a bit unconfident. I have no intention of getting rid of him. That is just ridiculous!

All parrots are amazing. Brutus is pretty amazing, too. Breezy has been talking all morning. Was just spending some time with Brutus and scratching her head and under her wing and Breezy was in the livingroom talking to me and trying his best to get my attention. Between him, Brutus, my dog, my cat and my two horses I am never going to be bored.
-
I was lying in bed this morning right before I got up and Breezy was making all kinds of sounds and talking. Well, my husband deciphered it and he was saying "Jooaaaaan! Good morning? As if in are you going to come out and uncover me? Then he said "What are you doing?" He is also imitating other sounds and was making some really cute interesting sounds but I am not sure if he has heard them here or not.

Vet wrap is a wrap sold in farm stores to wrap horses legs. I have two horses so have more vet wrap than I will ever use lying around my house.

It wasnt there yet when I went yesterday As soon as I get it I will take some photos. Going to track the package next and see when it should be getting to the post office. I have a bunch of other toys I ordered that I will be getting soon, too.
-
Well, I have this really cool little foraging wheel waiting at the post office for Breezy. You fill it with small pieces of food and little treats and it is like a puzzle for the bird to maneuver the food out of there. My Blue and Gold has one and I just filled hers up now. She loves hers! Also got some dried fruit to put in it. Both my birds are just nuts about dried papaya so I ordered a lot of that. Going to get it today as soon as my husband wakes up from his nap. Should be fun for my birds.

Thanks, Judygram, our Christmas was great but I ate too much. Lol!

I really want to take a minute and thank everyone here with all your help with Breezy and wish everyone a great holiday. We are having so much fun with him and he has settled in here so well it is like he has always lived here. Getting ready to make a pumpkin cheesecake to bring over to some friends who have invited us to Christmas dinner. So all of you, I hope your holidays are great and I will be here reading posts and learning even if I am busy and dont post myself as much till after new years.

Breezy is mumbling practicing words already.
Breezy2013 replied to Breezy2013's topic in The Nursery
I love parrots. I dont care if they talk, they are so much fun even if they dont. Weird thing is all of mine have learned to talk. I dont know why but I put no pressure on them to speak. But they all have spoken to me, even my cockatiels and budgies. -
He is practicing again now, I can hear him. Just going to leave him be and not bother him. I figured he wanted privacy, too.

Breezy has been practicing sentences in the livingroom while he is on his play gym. I kept getting up and going in the livingroom to try to be able to make out what he was trying to say and as soon as he saw me he would go silent. I have heard lots of greys are closet talkers so I will let him practice in peace. May try to make a recording of him, though because I am just really curious (Or maybe he would say I am being nosy) and I just want to find out what he is trying to say.
