  1. Lol! In all seriousness I do put bells on my horses saddles when trail riding to scare off any deer that could freak out and spook my horses, thereby causing them to dump me in the woods in the process. Dont know iff bells could scare away bears for sure, want to encounter them even less than I would deer while riding.
  2. Thanks, Dave! That sounds great that I can get a huge bottle of it at the pharmacy. Next time I get my blood pressure meds I will ask about buying that. He was nice and soaked by the time he decided he had enough and moved away from the spray. He was flapping his wings like crazy so I got those nice and soaked underneath, too. He seems to love getting sprayed and he seems to want me to give him a bath every day.
  3. I have heard many great things about spraying your grey with aloe spray so I bought some. The brand I got is AviVera by Avitec. My question for you guys is this. It says to spray them with water two to three minutes after spraying with the aloe spray, should I do this or leave it on him a little longer or should I possibly just leave the spray on him? Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this and responds. P.S. I should mention he is not plucking at all. I got it more because I thought he would like it and so far he does seem to like being sprayed with it very much.
  4. I do still have his baby cage. Might be able to put him in it at night somewhere quiet so he could sleep.
  5. Hi everyone! Breezy seems to like to stay up late with us. I usually cover his cage at 7:30 but if he hears us moving around he comes to the bottom of the cage and peeks out under his cage cover and peeps and talks to us. We usually end up taking him back out and sometimes he gets to bed kind of late. Would it be okay to leave his cover on later in the morning so he gets more sleep or should they be on a really early wake up schedule. He seems to be fine with sleeping in later, we are quiet if we are awake early. He acts happy and well rested so maybe the amount of sleep he is getting and what we are doing is fine. What do you guys think about this? I swear, he thinks he is going to miss something at night when he is covered up. Lol!
  6. He does seem to be, Nancy. He was ordering my dog around again today. It is really funny when he does that. I wish I could take a video.
  7. I still have dreams I can fly, even now. It is awesome! The fact that parrots can fly is the greatest thing in the world. It would be really great if we could fly as well. Breezy's wings got trimmed to keep him safe during shipping to me but they were not trimmed very short so he can still fly some. Going to let his wings grow out. I have cathedral ceilings and barn beams in my house. Would be great for him to fly around in when he grows his feathers in. Still working on how I will get him down when he flies to the barn beams which are fourteen feet above my head. Maybe a really LONG handled T perch. Lol!
  8. This morning Breezy was saying "Come here, Joann!" To me to try to get me to come over to him.
  9. After a couple of weeks of unclear speech Breezy surprised us by saying What a good boy! this morning. He also asked where my husband was when he was away from the house yesterday.
  10. Welcome to the grey forum! Grey't advice everyone on interesting new ways to serve fruit and veggies. Dont have anything better to offer than what has been already.
  11. That is what I read online, Judygram. They are almost as nutritious as fresh vegetables.
  12. I have noticed something interesting with Breezy since he went into his new cage. He adjusted to it super quick and loves it but the first two days he didnt talk or make a sound. Says in one of my books on african greys they can stop talking when that happens when they adjust to change. He was back to talking today but I just thought it interesting that he followed what is typical so much. Some say they are hard to read but if you know how they usually react in some ways they can be rather predictable. Anyways he is not typical in how quick he moved into his new cage. His old cage is set up right next to his new one but he is ignoring it. It is like he knew the cage was too small and the new one is a much better environment for him. They are such bright and intelligent birds!
  13. The frozen veggies we get dont have much salt, Greywings. I just didnt know if freezing them took away some of the vitamins but I did a search and frozen vegetables are still pretty nutritious.
  14. I think I might place a small order of some of the mixed veggies and see if the birds like them. They do like dried fruit so they might eat the veggies as well. I do feed mostly frozen fruits and veggies, Talon, as well as us eating them ourselves.
  15. I am sure I could just feed them dry. He loves dried papaya so he may just like dried vegetables as well.
  16. OMG! That is awesome! They have a great selection. Should I rehydrate them or just feed them dry? Thanks so much! They do get some of our dinner Bailey's Papa but the veggies are all frozen. That is pretty much all we can get here
  17. People will have a tough time relating to my post because most people live in urban areas. I am very rural, think nothing around, no stores. I am almost into canada so fresh fruits and veggies are hard to come by. I can however get frozen fruit and berries. Dont know if these, thawed would be okay for Breezy. We do have apple trees, hickory nuts and raspberries all over the property but that is only during our very short summers. Winter and such things are hard to come by. Can I use frozen fruits and berries? During the summers I also give my birds dandelion greens but now they are dead and under two feet of snow. Just put it this way every time we get fresh apples, bananas and oranges in our store I am right on it and grab them and buy them. Only problem is everyone else wants to buy them too. I have one apple and one orange left. Guess it is time to drive from store to store again and look for more.
  18. I keep pellets in Breezy's bowl all the time and feed him his bean mix with fruit and veggies in the morning and more bean mix with fruits and veggies in the afternoon. He likes the bean mix and usually eats all of it. Typically he leaves some pieces of fruit and vegetables, though. Typically I freeze the bean mix in ice cube trays and Breezy gets two little cubes thawed and heated.
  19. Dark yellow or orange fruits and veggies are good. They usually have a lot of vitamin A. They also like citrus fruit, bananas and grapes. I feed a rice and lentil mix. The link to the thread with the recipe is here http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?200985-Oriental-Rice-and-Lentils. I feed Harrison's high potency coarse as a base diet mixed with pretty bird African special. Some say red palm oil is good because they eat it in the wild. I am thinking of ordering some but havent yet.
  20. It is funny you mention about filling it with toys, Tankaray. That is exactly what I did tonight. I ordered a boing rope perch to go in the cage and picking out some toys now. Better be careful. Dont want to pack the cage so full of toys the poor little guy cant move in there. One thing on my side is it is a BIG cage, so there is plenty of room.
  21. I got another good picture of him today on the playtop of his new cage. I will have to put it on the forum.
  22. My vet told me the Harrison's high potency was formulated with Grey's dietary needs in mind. So that is what Breezy gets along with some other types of pellets mixed in to keep him interested in a variety. I also make a bean, lentil and brown rice mixture which I freeze for both my birds. I serve it to them warm each morning, they seem to like it with some fruits and vegetables diced up and mixed in with it.
  23. Thanks, Inara! Read that thread and was able to post some pics of Breezy. Will try to get some pics of him in the new cage tomorrow.
  24. These pics were taken in his baby cage. Just got his adult cage today and he is in it sleeping now. Will need to take a few pics of him in it. It is a big cage and he looks so small in there but he loves it!
