1. I think Tonto is mad at me his face is all fluffed up. will he know I meant no harm? Did I do it right? Should I do it again? Did I do it too soon?
2. DEAR ALL, I WILL TYPE THIS IN CAPS, SO PLEASE DON'T MIND. I AM SO FULL OF JOY AND EXCITEMENT CAUSE OF WHAT JUST HAPPENED. TONTO, MY SECOND GRAY JUST STEPPED UP! THIS IS THANKS TO YOU ALL AND SPECIALLY JUDYGRAM. I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU ALL HOW I DID THIS, SO PEOPLE IN THE FUTURE CAN ALSO FOLLOW THESE STEPS: 1. JUDY TOLD ME TO BE THE BOSS AND SLOWLY BUT GENTLY PUSH MY HAND AGAINST THE BIRD'S FEET TILL HE STEPS UP. 2. I USED MY HAND BUT THE HE WOULD JUST CLING TO HIS PERCH. SO I BROUGHT A STICK. AS SOON AS HE CLIMBED THE STICK, I WALKED AWAY FROM THE PERCH, PRAISING IT. 3. I TURNED MY BACK TOWARDS THE PERCH, BLOCKING DIRECT ITS VIEW FROM TONTO AND THEN OFFERED HIM MY HAND TO STEP ON. 4. HE DID IT! MORE PRAISES! 5. I TOOK HIM TO MY BEDROOM, AS IT IS NIGHT AND I DID NOT WANT TO WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORHOOD WITH ALL THE GROWLING. 6. TONTO SAT ON MY HAND AND KEPT GROWLING WHILE I OFERED HIM TREATS THAT HE JUST THREW ON THE FLOOR. 7. I USED MY THUMB TO GRAB HIS LEFT FOOT SO HE WON'T RUN AWAY, BUT IT WAS A GENTLE TOUCH WITHO0UT MUCH PRESSURE. I PLAN ON DOING THIS EXERCISE DAILY EVERY TWO HOURS AFTER I GET BACK FROM WORK. I WOULD LOVE TO GET YOUR COMMENTS ON THIS AS I WOULD HATE TO MESS IT UP AFTER ACCOMPLISHING THIS IN THREE DAYS. THANKS FOR READING ALL! JUDY: YOU ARE THE BEST! THANK YOU!
3. WHAT IS THE LATEST NEWS? Tell us, did he come down?
4. JUDYGRAM: You are the bestest person here. Those were the best instructions. My confusion was if I should push a little or not. And you also talked about him trying to bite, he does that. But it does not hurt that much. It's more like he just puts pressure on my fingers. The person told me to use knuckles near his mouth, not the finger tips with nails. Lemme go try this. THANK YOU sooo much... +KARMA!
5. Judy and all others... Will post pic as soon as I get my cam back from my mom's. In the mean time, lemme try to get a webcam quality shot.
6. Judy, even when I do that, he just moves back and it seems as if he is going to fall on his back. Should I keep trying by just putting my hand in front of him, till one day he climbs?
7. If it helps: Nature works wonders. He survived the night in the wild. I am sure he knows where to find food and water. Just stay with him. He WILL come down.
8. get a MAT or newspaper and spread his favorite foon on it. Let him see it. Maybe he will be hungry enough to come down for it?
9. IT's a CAG! I'm sure it is.
10. The ring neck is fine though.. a bit mellow after the incident, but it's been three weeks since this and he is doing just fine.
11. Okay, he is NOT in a cage, just on a stand. With toys. But he just sits in one place. I tried to go close today, but he just screamed a little and then quiet. When I tried to lift him, he just cling real tight to the perch and hangs back like tring to move away, that's where I back off. So I will just leave him alone for a few days till he takes food from my hand.
12. Hello All, Just got back from work after an hour and a half of commute. The beak broke on her left side nostril, ripping it off the face. Now they are placed far from each other. No one is home to watch them so now the cages are secured to ensure no fights and all. The ring neck is just a sweetheart. I will look for a avian vet now.
13. Hi, Anyone ever had a parrot break it's beak in a fight with another pet while you were away? My ringneck acts all macho and got into a fight with the CAG and now has it's left side of the beak torn from the face. It has been fifteen days since this, the bird is fine. Please tell me it will grow back. Someone said it does, but I just wanted to get a second opinion here.
14. So, huh... Tonto is a guy? Not DNA sexed I think. The guy just said it was a she. He is not comming on my hand since I brought him/her home. She just clings really tight to her perch and sometimes (sometimes) screams when I tried to pick him/her up. Is it cause of new place? If I left him/her undisturbed for a few days to observe me, then will she forget that people can pick her?B)
15. Yeah, will keep the peanuts to minimum. So she is a Congo African Dark Gray... :silly: question... She is not comming on my hand since I brought her home. She just clings really tight to her perch and sometimes (sometimes) screams when I tried to pick her up. Is it cause of new place? If I left her undisturbed for a few days to observe me, then will she forget that people can pick her?

Post edited by: Falconeer, at: 2007/09/01 19:59
16. Hey Guys, THANKS! I love this family thing on this forum. I got her from a pet shop that took care of her and trained her to the point that she does not scream and climbs on my arm. This makes things SO much easier for the future. Also, she is just 8 months old and ummm... Just a bit too dark colored and dirty but she will get a shower in a few days once she is used to the new home. ONE THING: The guy told me if you have peanuts in the diet, her color would get brighter. TRUE?
17. Hello All! Tonto has joined the family. She is an African Gray. Will post pics soon.
18. hI, I AM HAVING A FRUITFLY NIGHTMARE HERE. I NEED HELP WITH THESE BUGS. I AM SICK OF CATCHING THEM WITH MY VACCUM CLEANER. THANKS. (Karma for those who help me get these bugs out).
19. Hello, I need a clicker... Any mail order sites? There is nothing in UAE???? Alsso, will this work for a Ring neck? my ring neck is soooo well behaved compared to the CAG. Anyone knows a way to quiet a CAG using a clicker? maybe click when he is screaming?
20. Okay, I dunno what kinda attachment would be 65kb MAX???? Send me your email via PM.
21. Hello All, After my experiences with BooBoo, I was kinda at the verge of giving up (Thanks Fairy!). I then decided to experiment with a few things: 1. I would come home from work and have about 4-6 hours before bedtime each evening. So I made sure I am just sitting with my two parrots (BooBoo-CAG, and Cheech-Ring-neck). Cheech would get very excited now when I am working on the laptop and just wants to see what's all the fun about. BooBoo is quieter. 2. Cheech started talking, but the amazing thing is he is barely 4 months old. He is practiving speech as we speak. Heres what I did: On the laptop, I made a few recordings of BooBoo playing and making noises when alone (he makes about 60-70 noises now). I was just playing them and I noticed him getting excited. Lasty night he even came down closer to see the screen and I put his pictures on it and was talking to him. We talked for an hour that way. Cheech just loves to hear other ringnecks on the laptop. I did this thing with him as well (just sound recordings, not videos I found on the internet) he just started mumbling and whistling last night. Lemme get those files to anyone who needs top try. Falconeer. NOTE: Te file belongs to someone else. I just want to thank the person who made it.
22. GET HIM ON MY HAND? HOW? HE WOULD JUST RUN AWAY WHEN I GET NEAR.
