  1. HE IS ALWAYS ON A PERCH. WHEN I GET NEAR HIM, HE JUMPS OFF THE PERCH AND ON THE FLOOR. HE MAKES ABOUT 50-60 DIFFERENT NOISES.
  2. THERE IS GOOD NEWS HOWEVER, WHEN I TURN DOWN THE LIGHTS, HE WOULD START TALKING AND MAKING SWEET SOUNDS... THIS IS ONLY WHEN I AM IN THE HOUSE, BUT NOT VISIBLE. HOW DO I FEED HIM THOUGH? EACH THIRD DAY, I HAVE TO REFILL HIS STUFF... NOW, FOR TWO DAYS, HE GETS CLOSE, ON THE THIRD DAY IT SEEMS I SCARED THE POO OUT OF HIM AND WE HAVE TO START ALL OVER WITH THE GROWLING AND ALL. WHEN I GO NEAR HIM HE WOULD JUMP AND THAT'S IT.
  3. HERE IS WHAT I KNOW... I bought him at about 8 months of age. he was better then... just screaming but would let me feed him (I tried this twice). Then I left the country for 2 months (not my choice) when I came back, he was just a screamer. I let him oout of his cage, andgot him an open perch. He was very happy. But now, growls whenever I am near and worst of all, just jumps off the perch. PLEASE HELP!
  4. HELLO ALL, SORRY FOR THE CAPS. BUT I AM REALLY DEPRESSED ABOUT MY BIRD. HE USED TO SCREAM WHEN HE SAW ME COMMING CLOSE FOR FOOD. WHENEVER I GO NEAR HIM, HE SCREAMS AND WHEN I AM TOO CLOSE, HE JUST JUMPS OFF AND RUNS AROUND THE ROOM. SO, I DECIDED TO PUT THE FOOD AWAY FROM HIS PERCH AND WAIT TILL HE GOT THERE SO I CAN GO SERVICE HIS PERCH AND PLACE FOOD AS WELL. NOW I DUNNO HOW TO TAME HIM OR CALM HIM DOWN. IT'S BEEN 5 MONTHS NOW. PLESAE HELP.
  5. Hello All, hi Fairy (missed ya!) How are you all doing? Some of you know me from a couple of months ago. I was away due to some reasonns. Anyways, BooBoo (my CAG), has started eating fruits after a lot of effort. He would just taste them and toss them erlier but then one day seeing my ringneck eat onlly those, he started too and now loves them. The issue... he is too scared of me. Screaming is one thing, now he just takes off whenever I approach to feed him (2X a day). Today he jumped right on me cause his perch is in the corner of the room and there was no where else to go. Please tell me how to have him sitting on his perch and not just jump and try to run away. I am okay with him running around the house whenever, "exploring:!
  6. dsgns: Thank you so much. You have said something new and it does make a lot of sense. I am sure gonna try all these things. Specially the peek-a-BooBoo! Also the looking sideways thing sounds good. I did scream at him once... Just he was screaming and I lost it. what do I do now? Can I fix it if he is still mad at me? He is still on a seed diet (that I plan to end soon), so treats won't work, he gets those as meals anyways...
  7. Granna... Thanks! I try to give him his free time now. Fairy: LOL... It did
  8. Fairy! Lol what were you drinking while posting?
  9. Thanks Jdiprofio I'm gonna let him out again. I think a few hours a day should be good. He has to come back for the food atleast. Thanks for your advice though. Falconeer.
  10. Fairy... guilt treatment?:silly: You tell me what to do with him? He is only put in solitary confinement for a week, till he learns that I mean no harm and associates me with food.
  11. Yesterday all day he was great. This morning, just started acting like he's brand new here. Growling at me, running around and all. I just left him like that. I got home and found him in his cage, playing. But with the same attitude. So, fine! i just locked the cage. I am gonna leave him there now for a week of so till he tames a bit.
  12. Ryan, I got a serious issue at the moment. I guess you live in the US, where I live, it's 2AM. about a hour ago BooBoo finally became very friendly and started coming close to me and making noises that got louder and louder. I did not want him to do so so I started waving... big mistake. Anyways, now the noise was gone at about 1:45 AM. I went to bed. just as I was about to fall asleep, I heard some crackling at my door. BooBoo somehow found his way in the darkness to my door, clibed all the way up to the knob and was trying to get in. I felt sorry. anyways, now he is all wide awake and I got this job stuff at 10 am! I am in serioius deep trouble. Now I have left the lights in his room on so he finds his way back to his cage... me trying to catch some sleep... Birds!
  13. Thanks Ryan, Okay that's great. Just a few hours back, I went shopping and bought some fruit. I am not a fruit person, but once in a while I get some stuff. Today it was all for BooBoo. I got some grapes, some apples, and some pear. I gave him some grapes after washing them nicely, but before giving him, I took a plate full for myself just to excite him. IT WORKED. He first saw me eating. I made noises like mmmmm as if really having fun with those grapes. He came to the edge of the cage that is close to me, otherwise he stays on the far edge and was carefdully looking at the plate. Finally went to his tray and ate. Can you tell me where to get the aviary cakes and pellets online? I live in a country where all the pet store sell seed mix ONLY and most of the pet supplies are for dogs and cats only. I hate seed mixes. I wanted to get some pellets or something else. He is acting different today... real friendly... gotta get more grapes!
  14. Ryan, Please do not get me wrong. I did not mean to say return her or anything. I bet your bird is perfect. I was just saying that atleast BooBoo was not like that. I am sorry, did not mean to offend you in anyway. Now, about your bird. YOU ARE AT AN ADVANTAGE HERE... BOOBOO takes food from me and throws it away, now here is what you do... GIVE her only veggies from today on and some fruits... KEEP THE PEANUTS FOR TRAINING. If she took one from you, just make a certain time a day for those and at that time, you talk to her first, then calmly give her a peanut, say her name and all and just try to calm her... IF SHE GROWLS, pull the peanut back, give a stern look and say a louder NO. JUST TRY THIS PLEASE! WOW MAN, I wish BooBoo did that! We can both learn so much from each other.
  15. JUST LEAVE HIM ALONE FOR ABOUT A MONTH. I just learned this bit too, thougt I'd share. Justgive him food, do not try to pet him, do not hand feed (not for about two weeks), do not try step-ups etc., PATIENCE. That's it.
  16. Thanks Ryan, I am doing exactly that. Everything in front of him. However, he is NOT in the cage. His wings are clipped, so I keep him on top of the cage (there's a porche there). He hates being in the cage. He is better than the timneh you got I think, cause from the second day he was eating out my hand and has not yet (and I hope never!) bitten me yet. I even petted his chest the other day for about 5 days, but I am not doing that for atleast another month or so. Just want trust at the moment.
  17. Fairy: he is FUN. tonnes of it. I always wanted someone to keep me busy... I think I'm in love! Just bought him toys today. Spent about $25.00 The best one of them is a mirror I bought for him. He just loves looking at the image and even talks to it in there! Thanks!
  18. Don't worry too much about the screaming. Its their way of warning their flock and calling each other. Its natural, try to get him busy with things so he does not find time for it.:silly:
  19. Thanks Fairy. He's just got some behavior problems. I mean he has been away from his cage all night long siting on this total-gym stupid machine:silly: . Its in a hard to reach spot so I have left him there till he gets hungry and comes back to his cage for food. Thanks again!
  20. hello, I think you and I are pretty muich in the same boat. Do what I did. I did not find much help on the net on this. All I did was I picked an hour of the day when no one was home. Say around 10 AM. Get into the room where he is at. STAY THERE. LET HIM SCREAM HIS HEART OUT. You just stay put there and go through the whole thing smiling. and talking to him pleasantly. Do not feed him. Slowly move closer till you are about two feet away. It took me 2.25 hours to get him quiet. He still hates my room mates, but tolerates me within 2 feet. :-) Hope this works for you too! Give him atleast two days to be fully there. Mine just completed his 48 hours right about now! Bye.
  21. Hi Fairy, Thanks! I love the name BooBoo too. The photos are in my profile. No, I do not have any falcons. I love them. But just too expensive for me. Like I said, about $40,000 (US) for an inexpensive one. They go even more than that. We have Falconeering competetions here in dubai. one was on just a couple of weeks ago. I think it was the World championship or something. Its fun to watch those birds hunt. I do feel sorry for the pegions though!
  22. Either way I think you are forcing yourself. The second one is more moderate. But I do not like to starve my bird. I am taking it to the restroom with me today! Fortunately, it does not bite me. It just touches my fingers with its beak and makes the growling noise. Not so loud anymore.
  23. Hi, I think my parrot hates me. Its been two days now. The first night, it just screamed when anyone even entered the room where i had kept it. Now it lets people in today, but when I tried to make friends with it but offering food, it just won't let me come closer by screaming. I still did not give up and moved closer so atleast it would taste it. Please help me. I am desperate to hold it and play with it!
  24. Hello All, Look what I found... "Observe your birds from about five to ten feet away, while on a perch or hanging upside down from the cage top, and flapping their wings. With this action you are able to distinguish three bands of grey on the underside of the wing. The top band is the feathers making up the ventral antebrachial coverts. The band directly below is the feathers of the minor ventral wing coverts. The last band consists of the primary remiges. In a hen these bands respectively "appear" grey, white and dark grey. The male "appears" grey, grey and dark grey. If you hold a bird, rather than viewing from five to ten feet away, and study this, your eyes "see" the actual different bands and you can not easily distinguish male from female." I found this @ http://www.wingscentral.org/aps/Grey8.aspx I still have to find out what Boo Boo is. He is quiet now and it's been with me only a little more than 12 hours. By the way, this does not work for Timnehs.
  25. Hello and welcome. This is a great place to learn. Can we see some pics please?
