There is a lot of disagreement about safety. However, my chemistry major son's opinion was that since the humidifier is evaporative (it isn't recommended for other types) That the chemical in the bacteriostatic stuff would NOT become air-borne. I've used it for two years with no problem. I certainly wouldn't use a humidifer without it, because of the bacteria and mold growth that can take place. This stuff seems to eliminate slime and buildup, so I'm good with it. Others may disagree.
