Dave007
The Meaning of Rescue ======================== Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed, All nicely tucked in my warm new bed. I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget. There's so much to carry, so much to regret. Yes, there it is, right on the top, Let's upack loneliness, heartache and loss. And there by my perch hides fear and shame. As I look on these things I tried hard to leave, I still have to unpack my baggage called pain. I loved them, the others, the one's who left me, But I wasn't good enough, for they didn't want me. Will you add to my baggage, or help me unpack? Will you look at my things and take me right back? Do you have the time to help me unpack? To put away my baggage, to never repack? I pray that you do, I'm so tired you see, but I do come with baggage. So please tell me now, I really need to know... Will you still want me? Edited April 19, 2010 by Dave007

Carolyn
That is so wonderful Dave, thank you for posting it. It makes all of us just sit back and think to just what the rescue or re-homed bird must feel when he firsts arrives in his hopefully forever home. BaxtersMom
{Feel-bad-0002006A} More tears from me, too. I think that poem is right on on older rehomed and rescued birds. They might have some quirks but don't we all? They want love just like we do. Oh gosh, now I'm all emotional now.
danmcq
Thanks for posting this Dave. Everytime I read it, it brings much heartfelt sadness and empathy for all those Parrots out there in rescues needing a loving forever home. Lanibird
Wow, that is a really powerful thread and should be required reading for every person whom rushes out to get a bird without really thinking about the commitment they are embarking on. Made me cry!! Birds are people too! Janine (Lanibird)
Tycos_mom
That's a very heart felt poem I trully hope that I out live everyone of my rescues so they never have to go through being rehomed again. I want then to only know joy and happyness for the rest of their lives.

Goralka08
That was beautiful! When I look at our newly adopted TAG, McKenzie, I wonder how she fell through the cracks, and what the circumstances were for her to end up in a parrot adoption program. From looking at her beautiful feathers, and listening to her speech, you can tell she was one of the lucky ones. Thanks for posting.
Adhaincroi
So true..I look at my two especially Mr. Tiki and remember when he was such a mess..unable to trust as he had no reason to...rescue and rehab brings its own reward...especially when you get past the band aids part lol
danmcq
A BIRD WITHOUT WINGS. By Anne.M.Kenyon There isn’t a song that anyone sings That’s as sad as the song of a bird without wings. The song of a bird confined to a cage, The song of a bird who has felt human rage. The song of a bird that’s ignored night and day, No sign of good food, no toys, and no play. Hear that pain as this lonely bird sings, That is the song of a bird without wings. The bird that is ill, knowing no-one will care The bird who’s life is loveless and bare. The bird, who in fear has panicked and bit And therefore been screamed at, sworn at and hit. These are the birds who sing their own song, Quietly, sadly, but all day long. If you care, you will hear what this lonely bird sings, This is the song of a bird without wings. But sometimes, along comes a person cares, Then the bird hears the song that the ‘RESCUER’ shares! And the bird stops to listen, and tilts it’s sweet head, As it hears new sweet words that it’s never heard said. Can you sing to these birds? Help them learn a new song? Can you show them their pain will not last all life long? Oh PLEASE be the person who lovingly sings, And gives flight to a bird, A bird without wings. Dave007
Truely lovely. You're the chief moderator so I demand that you put a sticky on this or else they'll be trouble in paradise. Make this a new topic so it can be on the main RESCUE PAGE.

Post edited by: Dave007, at: 2008/12/30 01:

Janfromboone
So sensitive and hard to think about. I know a little CAG that didn't get sold out of the pet store Tobie came from. So sorry for him still living in that little cage with only the store people to love him. I guess I feel guilty knowing how much Tobie has compared to this little guy and yet I don't want to share my time with another bird - one is enough for me.
