She is found...I don't have time to tell you the whole story right now but I will post it as soon as I can...she is fine not a scratch ...just a little hungry and very thirsty...I am relieved but sad...I didnt find her but am happy she is safe

She doesn't actually know Ros Band number...or her hatch date..she thought she had registered her with the pet store near us..but she hasn't as that's the first place I checked...I know her hatch date her breeder her band number and all her favourtie foods and habits and noises..also her so called owner is a bit leery of handling her in case she gets bitten..so I don't reckon making claim is going to be an issue but who knows...right now I am praying someone finds her...and I am walking the distrct sowing seeds of descent on the neighbours...I ask "excuse me have you seen an African Grey parrot or any other odd looking bird that doesn't look like it fits" they say "I have your flyer" and I say "no sir you dont, the flyer you have is a flyer with a picture of an African Grey parrot on it, but thats not my bird its not the bird that's lost" then I tell them the whole story about her losing it twice etc...So all the people so far are on my side...everyone immediately says to me after that "you wont give her back to them will you" lol..I am such a B***H...if she was found by me it would be better to my mind but anyone would do right now...we have huge hawks here in Louisiana...not to mention a bunch of snakes and other predators..that's before we take into account domestic predators...just cos my Dogs are afraid of her doesn't mean they all will be...she is still so young...she wont even be 2 till May..poor baby..But shes smart she has eaten yesterday twice at least that I know of..and its not bad weather here..she's in a well tree'd and bushed area..with lots of back gardens and fenced areas..so she can hop from place to place...there's lots of shelter...many people feed the birds and squirrels and raccoons here...I am walking the neighbourhood daily..I saw her Owner yesterday she was driving from place to place putting posters on poles..lol I was rooting through all the bushes on the areas of land where houses had been taken by Katrina and Gustav...lots of downed trees I was filthy when I got home lol...I will be out at dusk this evening...and I will keep you up to date if anything good happens

She has been sighted in the morning of Sunday a man fed her peanuts but couldn't catch her...the lady who lost her Twice phoned me to tell me she was sighted in the morning and the street she was on..but not until late afternoon...she definitely wants to appear helpful..but she also wants to find him first so she is kind of working against me...these people have a lot of money and have placed an advert on the radio so she actually got 2 calls on Sunday...I went to both places...the first place was the original place I had rescued Roswell these people feed the birds and I know them well since the first rescue so they went out and bought human grade in the shell peanuts and pine nuts to lure her with and they are keeping the bird feeder full...she knows there's food there from last time so I would think she would keep returning...the other place she was spotted was on a street the other side of the first street...so she is staying on the block so far...there are a lot of trees here in Baton Rouge and she is in an older area of town with large yards and lots of cover...when I found her the first time it was December and it was getting cold and food wasn't as available...right now its getting warm its spring (so shes probs feeling her oats)and food is plentiful...I was out at dusk and dawn over the weekend but can only do dusk during the week...which sucks because dawn she would be hungrier and less wary...clocks changed and dawn is still really dark...do you think she'd be active so early in the morning in the dark...I know they pootle during the night hours and she likes to stay up late as I hear the bell ring at home sometimes past midnight (they are both covered but have a night light as Mr Tiki suffers night panic)...as for yours he is clever..little dickens..have you tried playing the jealousy card..bringing the other bird outside in its cage and fussing with it giving treats making lovey lovey noises etc...he might get a bit jealous and try to come close...you may have to do it daily for a while he must be a bit lonesome unless the other wild birds are allowing him to interact with them

she was just one street away...she was lost on Dec 8th in the afternoon...I rescued her Dec 9th about 2pm...she was 100yards from her home...this time she went the other direction..when she flew she went left on the map instead of right...also they didn't tell me she was missing until late...she went missing 8am Thursday...I wasn't advised until 4pm Friday...other wise I may have been able to get to her quicker

Wow that's pretty cool though hes not stupid and hes getting fed and staying safe from predators...what about setting up some kind of more interesting shelter for him..maybe a naturalistic hollow log or something...I am not sure if greys are hollow log dwellers...drop net for the bushes??...I am impressed by his ingenuity and street smarts and saddened that you are forced to chase him to no avail...I am sure you will prevail eventually but by then he may never be able to revert back to pet status...keep us posted its very interesting and I would totally love to hear you casught him one day

I am about 5 miles..but to be honest I am not sure if she could find me...she wasnt outside more than a couple of times and even then in her cage...I found her in the same neighbourhood where she is lost again NOW...so she may not know her way home...I am checking the garden just in case...I will maybe put her cage out with some food in it....but I dont hold out hope...scrubbing through the bushes and going door to door is most likely going to be my best hope which is what I am already doing..Monday I will phone all the vets..and then all the pet stores etc...I really know that it was a one in a million chance to have found her in the first place...and if I can get her back it will be nothing short of a miracle...but I am still praying for a miracle none the less

Was out for 5 hours this morning...no sign of the supposed actual owner...2 of her friends were out looking with me..if they said there's a reward once they said it a hundred times..i dont think I managed to conivince them that I would just blithely hand the bird over..hell yea there's a reward if I get Roswell back ...its called ROSWELL...what on earth they think money has to do with it I don't know...anyway trawled the neighbor hood NO SIGN the little Dickins is hiding out on me...so I will go back this dust time and again at dawn Sunday same as today

wow that sucks have you tried a net or a trap of some kind..surely there's something you can do..I will be out first thing looking for Roswell..I was out today ...if the morons had called me Thursday morning when they lost her I would have been straight round...but they didn't they still have not contacted me...the only reason I know she is lost is because a friend of theirs told me the whole story as they were there...I think they are afraid to face me...if I was them i would be too because I am seriously peed..If I find her first they will never get to know about it..they lost their chance...they lost their bird again in less that 12 hours even after all the warnings and advice I gave them 11 hours earlier...I am sorry but morons are not supposed to have the care of such a fine creature...I could understand losing your love once...but twice that was carelessness and downright stupidity

I am out at first light tomorrow morning to try an find her..she is listed on craigs and 911 parrot alert..Miss Donna had a cow...these people did want her back that was the point..I knew they were having repairs done on their house and I had already offered to keep her with me until they were back in their house..thinking that it would be a squeeze to have her and the cage etc at the apartment..they said it would fine no problem..then they took her back to a house they are not occupying as that's where her cage was ...then they went to the apartment they are occupying to sleep leaving her outside on the porch overnight..(I didnt know this was her intent before she left)...the next day a friend of theirs came to take Roswell to stay with the owners mother until the house was finished and they moved back in...and her owner tried to transfer her to a bird box while the cage was still outside on the porch...so quite obviously all the talking and advice and warnings and reiteration that she had had a one in a million blessing to have got her bird back alive...I MUST HAVE BEEN TALKING TO MYSELF...because it obviously didn't actually make it to the brain parts...some people don't deserve such a blessing as a bird in their lives..today I searched the neighborhood and drove up their exclusive little street/enclave...these people are not lacking money that's for certain...it made me think that they may have the attitude that everything comes easy and goes easy...and I am kicking myself for having been so trusting...suffice it to say if I find her first they will never know...and If I find and advert I will claim her as I know her band number and hopefully that will be enough to prove ownership..and she wont be going back to them...they had their second chance and peed it up the wall

LOST CAG --- I swear I am quite literally going to DIE...After having rescued and cared for her for 3 months and moved hell and highwater to find her owner ..Roswell left my home Wednesday evening at 7.30pm...I find out today that she was lost AGAIN on Thursday morning at 8am...not even 12 hours did they have her...I am killing myself for being so stupid and trusting...now my baby is lost somewhere in Baton Rouge..because these people are MORONS...even after a very long very involved discussion on Wednesday before they took her home...about her being able to fly..and not being safe to be outside on a perch under the porch...or that if outside she must be in a cage to make sure she was secure...The Idiots tried to transfer her from her cage (which was outside on the Porch) to a bird box after not handling her for 3 months (she was with me)and HUGE SUPRISE DUH!!!! she flew away...I am so ANGRY...words cannot possibly convey how angry I am...after several hours in tears and 5 hours searching the area where she was encouraged to become LOST..I cannot find her and I am so livid furious...I don't know what to do but to ask anyone and everyone who may be in my area Baton Rouge Louisiana...Please look out for her...lost in the Goodwood area 3-5-09 early morning...if you find her please contact me 225-927-2021...thanks loads Leanne

Thanks I will definately stay around...I do have a certain amount of standard bird knowledge that may be useful to some even if its not bird specific..as for another Large bird in my life Mr Tiki is really enough for me...when I wished for a parrot in my early life I always wanted a grey..or a macaw lol...when My Red Lored came to my life he had been very badly un-cared (understatement) for and a lot of behavioral issues...its been along road back for him and me..he actually preens now and grinds his beak when hes happy...I came to accept that God meant for me to have him and he I...I had a lovely chance to enjoy a grey with Ms Roswell (Cuzco)..and that was very enjoyable...but unless another rescue comes my way I cant see myself going out and getting one...God knows I will take in the weak and the abused and the needy...so I am sure in time someone will need my help...until then I am a Red Lored Parent lol...with Grey leanings...and some useful knowledge I am willing to share...I have made friends here and I will always peek in at you...Hugs to all L

Thanks I will...I still have short bus bird lol (Red Lored Amazon another RESCUE)...Mr Tiki sat with me last night for a long time...she was yawning his little green head off and he still wouldn't go back to his cage to roost...but his fluffy little head was well scritched and his company was much appreciated...I have to also give a nod to 911Parrotalert.com ....Miss Donna who runs it loaned me a big cage she has a huge heart for rescue and she is mom to I think 3 greys..so she helped a lot also...she does a great job with her website...I told Cuzcos Mom...I was not alone in this journey...and she was grateful that so many people tried to help me...just so you all know...Hugs L

I am so excited..I found Roswell's Mommy..She came to get her last night...LOL...HIS (Roswell's) name is Cuzco...His owner said he now has a middle name AKA Cuzco Roswell (last name)...I am happy and a bit sad all at the same time..I had come to love the little guy..but I am so happy she has him back..there were two little girls a cat and a pug dog waiting for him to return...not to mention a Daddy (rival)...so I feel as though it was all worth it...she is (his mom) smart and educated about Greys and she has babied and fed and loved him from the beginning he much waited for personality in her life (she got him for her birthday)..I feel totally confident his life will be wonderful and I am so glad to have been a part of it and to have been able to hand him back to a woman who had cried for him and almost lost hope was more than my heart could contain....Today I am spilling over with blessings...Thanks to everyone here for the help and support you have provided…. Yes well I am not sure I fully believe that...they will often look at me eating something and be begging for a bite...then they get a bite they will either eat it happily if they like the taste or throw it much as to say eww yuk you are seriously not eating this...they are like us...some things they like some things they don't...they are more likely to try something if they see you eat it though as its a flock behavior thing

The closest I can get to an explanation that might help is that rescue bird can often get behaviours that are control issues..the one thing poor jasper could control was his own feathers..in my bird Mr Tiki's case his control issue was his environment and his food..he is slowly getting a bit more chilled...it used to be you couldn't change anything around in the cage...try and think of his plucking as a nail biting habit...it can be hard to break...lots of distraction can help...weave paper throught the bars of his cage...get some foraging toys in the cage a cardboard egg crate with some treats wrapped in tissue paper...sometime they will preen cotton rope instead of feathers..and if you see him picking go and distract him talk sing get him out of the cage etc..you can grow Aloe in the house in the UK and outside in the hot of summer...get it at garden center and cut the odd leaf off and cut it open take the gel part out and add it to a MISTO bottle with some water and a little vitE...I also used to put a drop of GSE (grapefruit seed extract) in it(Misto is a pump bottle for olive oil lol) I spray mine several times a week ...I don't think nightly would hurt...and then sometimes I blow the hair dryer near him (not at him)just to keep the air nearby warm if its chilly...try taping animal planet with parrots on it or something and leaving it on when you are out...Ive got the telly and a cd player on timer...distraction seems to help a lot...don't expect it to be overnight ...remember what was said about parrot time v human time lol...my rescue has been with me 4 years and he doesn't step up either...but he does eat more than one food now and he doesn't freak when you move a toy...slowly slowly...main thing is hes safe...they are super smart..once he starts to feel confident it will be different again...around Birds every day is different...you are doing really well...keep up the good work...its so worth it...Jasper know you saved him..he will do his best for you...just as you are doing your best for him

Well thanks but to be honest I am the one that's blessed...and It has been wonderful to have the support and encouragement of all of you here...I borrowed a cage today from the lady that runs the 911parrot rescue site...who wondrously lives about 2 miles from me..I am making some serious friends here...she gave me lots of useful advice and she also offered to foster Roswell until she found here people if necessary...I told her probs not necessary but isn't it wonderful that people like her exist...she has rescue birds galore from Katrina and Gustav and she is really doing everything she can to see that help is freely given...anything we can do to help these types of special people is always a huge benefit

My heart wont be broken just changed..I have long ago accepted the fact that all of the animals in my life come and go for a reason...I have rescued many over the years..some die (for some its too late) at my home with little more than a full belly and the sure knowledge that they were loved if only for a little while..some rehab after many months of love, one dog that was so abused it was a catatonic bundle of shaking rags..she finally found herself and then a home FOREVER..some are here on "loan" for a reason I don't know yet...but I have noted in this instance my poor rescue Red Lored is watching what Roswell displays daily and I can see him taking on actual real Parrot behavior...maybe this Grey that I have currently is not destined to stay with me...maybe she was sent to teach Mr Tiki to be a parrot and the people who she truly belongs to a life lesson in attention to detail and attention to your responsibility to your parrot...if they did indeed do something stupid and that's why Roswell is out all the worry and guilt will have taught them what ever lesson they needed to learn...I am confident that this situation will play itself out in the manner it is destined to...they always do...and to a degree your heart breaks and swells and r-heals in a new and more beneficial pattern with each lesson...Is'nt that what life is truly for anyway
