Looking to adopt a Grey!

Hi everyone, first post here! It's nice to meet you all, and I hope to have a long stay here.

I've been looking into adopting a Grey for around a year and a half and am finally at a point where I think I'm ready to adopt one! My ideal would be getting a younger bird from a breeder most likely, and I've contacted a few in my area. I'm based in Pittsburgh, and have had a very hard time finding breeders with prices that line up with what I was prepared for. The estimates I have are currently $5000 and $8000, and I'm worried that I would be paying too much for that. I think what I'm asking is how much did yall get your birds for and what should I expect?

Hello and welcome! Unfortunately that's the going rate for CAGS these days. I got 2 of my CAGS from rainforest aviaries in San Diego. They have 2 babys ready to go to their new homes as we speak. He ships.

He's a great breeder and is also the head avian zookeeper at the San Diego Zoo. Check him out and give Paul a call.

Hey there! I sent Paul a note, thank you very much for the recommendation. Are his prices around that range aswell?

Hello and welcome to the forums! There is SO much information here which has been shared over the years so I recommend having a deep dive into some of our older posts. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. There are still a few of us around who would be willing to help where we can.

Have you looked around local rescues as well? I know you want a younger bird but there are so many birds who are looking for a home these days and you may find some younger birds in the mix too.
