Michael Benolken
I have a grey he’s 35 years old. Amazing bird!! Have had him since since he was 2 months old. I have a question he has an amazing amount of red feathers. His neck is ringed with red feathers along with his entire stomach. Rare??? 2
Greytness
That's called red factor. Some greys have a lot of red feathers while some only have a feather or two. Personally I think it gives them a bit of character! It's perfectly fine. 1
Timbersmom
I don't think it's rare to see some red feathers. Timber has a few and has had them since he came to me. Some have more than others. As Greytness said, it gives them character!
Ray P
Some red factor Greys start out with the red feathers mixed in with the grey feathers but are gone after the first molt and some keep some or all the red factor feathers that are mixed in with the grey feathers. So enjoy your Grey because its spicial !! Edited August 26, 2020 by Ray P
JennS
My little lady Vannah has some in her wingpits and just a tiny bit at the top of her legs. I wondered about it too. Thanks for the info!
neoow
Wow 35! And you've had him all those years! Amazing. Alfie used to have an odd little red feather on his back above his tail in amongst his grey feathers but it moulted out years ago. He now has a teeny tiny little red feather on the back of his leg. When I first spotted it I thought it was blood until I got a closer look. It's a really cute one... if a feather can be cute haha. I think you just have a special bird. 😄 I would love to see some photos and I'm sure others would too!
