Giannine Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) Poppy is finally starting to look like a bird:) All of these feathers popped up within 5 days. 2nd picture was taken yesterday. I'm not sure if I shared with everyone or not but we found out about a week ago that Poppy is a girl. Initially, I said I wanted a male but then I decided I wanted to be surprised so I picked which baby I wanted before the DNA sexing was done and really thought Poppy would end up being a male because the breeder thought so but when I found out Poppy is female, I was very happy so I suppose I must have really wanted a girl:D Edited June 17, 2016 by Giannine
Inara Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 OMG she is so stinking cute! She really is losing that baby dinosaur look and is looking like a fluffy little TAG. HRH Iara says she is beautiful!

SRSeedBurners Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Cutie. My favorite stage is when those cute little tail feathers start to pop out.

SullysMom Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The picture of the tiny red tail is so friggin adorable! Poppy is just the cutest!
Timbersmom Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 So cute, and looking so curious and intelligent already!
neoow Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Oh my goodness she's so cute! I missed out on all these photos of Alfie as a baby. I didn't meet him until he was around 11 weeks old! She's so cute!
Giannine Posted June 28, 2016 Author Posted June 28, 2016 I am grateful to be able to see her growing up and it makes it even more special because I thought she was an infertile egg. I really was not expecting to get a TAG until next year after being told the eggs were infertile. The surprise of finding out one week later she had in fact hatched was pretty cool. I had been buying things for her for weeks while waiting for her to hatch and then put everything up. I'm still getting used to the idea we're getting her and the time is going by quickly. She will be 12 weeks on July 31st but I am hoping she will wean closer to 14-16 weeks.
katana600 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 How sweet, its hard to believe that seven years have passed since I was awaiting the homecoming of the sweetest little chick. This is a time of wonder and amazement for you. It will not be long before you understand what unbelieveable joy is coming into your life. Congrats on choosing Poppy and preparing for her homecoming.
Giannine Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 How sweet, its hard to believe that seven years have passed since I was awaiting the homecoming of the sweetest little chick. This is a time of wonder and amazement for you. It will not be long before you understand what unbelieveable joy is coming into your life. Congrats on choosing Poppy and preparing for her homecoming. Thank you! I have a feeling our lives are going to be very enriched by her being with us. I really enjoy seeing my kids take interest in the animals and sea creatures we have and help care for them. They have learned a lot over the years and very much love and appreciate animals. Since we got Olive, our Quaker, a month ago, I have watched my 7-year-old daughter fall in love and bond with her. It is really cute because she will sing her songs and call Olive her "little baby". I keep thinking how much greater our lives will be after we get Poppy. I welcome the challenges and look forward to the good and "bad" that will come.
Giannine Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 Here is the latest pic of Poppy. Not much change. She will be 10-weeks-old on Sunday (the 17th).
katana600 Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I do love those baby chick pictures. Poppy is perfect. You have it right, your lives will be enriched by her companionship. She will thrive in your home with your family and you will wonder how you ever got along without her.
Greywings Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Love her face and her name, keep those pictures coming!
Giannine Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 I spoke with the breeder a couple of days ago and got a few new pics. She said Poppy is doing very well and eating a lot of different foods and should be ready to come home some time around the 14th. Time has flown by. These are her most recent pics
Timbersmom Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Wow look at her grow! I can only imagine how excited you are
SRSeedBurners Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Enjoy the baby face and get lots of pics. It won't last long!
Giannine Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 I cannot believe how much she changes in such short periods of time. She still didn't have feathers on her chest and upper back 9 or 10 days before these pictures were taken. We've had our baby Quaker for 8 weeks now and even though I spend a lot of time with her and she has clearly bonded with me, she adores my 7-year-old! My daughter, Giovanna is very good with her and adores Olive right back. I am very curious to see how Giovanna and Poppy interact. Giovanna seems to have some natural way with birds. We got a Parakeet awhile back and it has been Giovanna who has worked with her and gained her trust enough to get her to perch on her finger. I know that Quakers and Greys are very different and will be exercising a lot of caution and supervising closely when Giovanna interacts with Poppy. Any advise those who have Greys with children can offer is welcome.
