murfchck
We were generously given new flights for the addition of birds we have acquired from our friend. Our friends birds are all flighted and getting them to our original aviaries is a challenge. He has given us his flights which he used to enclose the front of his house. They are the panels, which we love, but it is worse than a 5000 piece puzzle! They were designed for the front of his house so it is a perfect fit, we broke them down last weekend not even thinking about which piece fits where because we would be redesigning it anyway. Oh, bad idea, first off there were so many panels we ended up having to rent a uhaul to get them to our house and now we don't know which was a ceiling or a wall unless we measure every time.lol. There is a 5" difference in the walls, there are spaces used on several. We did manage to get one section assembled last Sunday that will hold the macaws, now we need to use the remainder to create 3 more. In our zest to begin the building, we drained our pool a few weeks ago after our blind dog had died (because now we could do this without worrying she would fall in the hole) but failed to think about getting enough dirt to fill it in or how we would get it back to the back yard since we have build a concrete retaining wall and can't get a tractor back there anymore. The edges started buckling in and it became a death trap for our other dogs. We had to pull the liner and remove the walls of it and then it rained for weeks and we now have a huge 25' around mud pond with safety fencing all around it, and dog crates to finish where we ran out of fencing. What a mess we have gotten into because we were also given 14' long pieces of metal roofing for our flights which are hanging off of our driveway in the front yard. We are the perfect picture of a bad trashy neighbor. lol We have 2 days to get all of this cleaned up and the rest of the flights built, wish us luck please, we are going to need it! Oh, I am going to be calling swimming pool builders and see if they can give us the dirt they dig up when they build a pool. If we have to buy dirt it will run over $800.00 and they have to pay to dump it so seems like a good trade off to me, we will see! Here is the one we did piece together. Looks like it was simple right? Wrong! lol https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-J76OQ9J1JuU/VSb-3YsraFI/AAAAAAAABzE/SB5-APW3wv4/w326-h579-no/20150409_173544.jpg

murfchck
Still have the center roof to put up and two doors for the 2 smaller flights but it is done. (please ignore the swamp, we are now just calling it a moat) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ywyPijaDHP0/VSsQuaL7aQI/AAAAAAAAB10/IUujj2rj3hc/w326-h579-no/20150412_194046.jpg

I'm pretty sure I would have hired someone to figure it out!

Acappella
Just keep on picturing yourself and happy fids out there enjoying it all this summer and repeat repeat repeat "It's all gonna be worth it, it's all gonna be worth it". What a lot of work.
Greywings
You could convert the pool to a Koi pond, you might need a place to find a little Serenity. Here is a converted pool to pond. Love the caging it looks like what the Sanctuary uses. Echo's Mom
OOHHH you have a koi pond!!! My pond was finished just in time last year for the water to freeze LOL It's all thawed out now and full of debris, I'll be draining and washing it this weekend, and then filling it back up! Hopefully I can get it all balanced and running to put fish in this year, and of course the plants!!!
murfchck
We have had it for years. The koi love watermelon and eat from our hands. Darn egrets got 7 last summer, left me with 9 but a few are over 14" now. Its fun and relaxing until we have to get in it to clean it, luckily thats just once a year! SRSeedBurners
One of our neighbors dug a pond and they now have the neatest sounding bullfrogs in the evenings. I love listening to those guys.
murfchck
Yup, us too. The neighbors hate the frogs. The cockatoos don't bother them but the bull frog does. Go figure!
Timbersmom
Funny! I can't imagine bullfrogs bothering someone. Of course I was raised in the country so maybe it is a city thang...
murfchck
So, if the rain hold out this weekend, the roof will be going up! We also figured out a way to incorporate the other flights into the mix down the road when the swamp is filled. Talked to a pool company and they are always looking for places to dump dirt so we are on the list! They said about 6 loads should fill it up, six loads won't fit in our driveway though but I am not turning it down! Sure beats buying it. TGIF! SRSeedBurners
Keep after those sumbeeches. We've had promises from multiple pool companies about dumping dirt. Oh, they are "always looking for places to dump dirt" but you never hear from them again. I think they get a lot of requests for dirt (look at the craigslist ads looking for free dirt) and know how to tell you what you want to hear and then disappear. I'd be interested to know if they follow through.
Greywings
You most likely have to keep reminding them, squeaky wheel and all that.
murfchck
I guess we can't remind them of anything since we have called twice and still have not gotten a call back. So roof is on now, just have to fix an area that is still open by the bay window. That is going to require some thought and we were just to tired to think. Also need to power wash it and add the perches and toys. And now rain for the next 3 days. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ffUsHazMxLI/VTRTFAYqGuI/AAAAAAAAB6Q/UUWLVpN70u8/w326-h579-no/20150419_201434.jpg

murfchck
Haha. I will get a picture but since we didn't get dirt, i decided to put some lipstick on that pig of a swamp. I put a part of our stairs in there and it floated so i put a singing dancing rubber frog on it and it is just floating around in there! All are welcome, all i ask is to clean your own cages! Lol
murfchck
It was heaven! They spent the entire day outside yesterday, well most of them did anyway, lol. What a great feeling knowing I can walk outside with them and if the fly, they are still safe. Also we don't have to crate the greys anymore to take them out! The poor cockatoo's though, Koko was great and didn't scream. Gus refused to come out of his cage so he stayed inside happy as a kitten. Lily, well she did good for about 4 hours then said enough was enough and screamed until we took her back inside. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-2CIYo05f3VE/VT1n0eVJSbI/AAAAAAAAB-Y/bX3_EqmPH10/w326-h579-no/20150426_173307.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-L_-5dJhno_g/VT1oVJ1drLI/AAAAAAAAB_g/BIVwW2oDSck/w326-h579-no/20150426_173550.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Yps9N4aFlEE/VT1oGO3gA_I/AAAAAAAAB_U/S1BrfAndyh4/w326-h579-no/20150426_173422.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6bsuarmBOZc/VT1n7k2zpMI/AAAAAAAAB-w/JdLnWCUSJpI/w326-h579-no/20150426_173348.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-C1w-7U-tkSc/VT1n4NYjiGI/AAAAAAAAB-k/GoRmfYACpHA/w326-h579-no/20150426_173323.jpg
