  1. We get called the same way we call the dogs: <whistle><whistle> "COME ON!!!". If either of us head down the hallway or towards the door leading to the garage or the door leading outside...we get called with great fervency.
  2. Our little Caique is the screamer of the house. He's the youngest but Greycie seems to be the one learning all his habits: from roaming the floors, head-bobbing, cage-wrestling, to that wonderful Caique scream. I could've just gotten another cat.
  3. My wife is having issues with Greycie's and Toby's morning and evening screechy time. They don't hold a candle to those macaws. There was a macaw a couple of acres away from our place that we could hear screeching. Every time I could hear him I remembered why I could never have a macaw. There is also a man and his wife a mile or so away that has B&G. He's loud and super sweet with his momma.
  4. Interesting comment I read that will always stick with me - "it's almost unheard of for a flighted Grey to pluck". I think it was Ray or Dan. I hope it's true. I've had a plucking Grey, it's not pretty. I love my feathered baby.
  5. Good stuff. First time I've come across this thread.
  6. Silly hoomans, don't you know that certain colors can KILL!! We use a hand-held steamer to clean boings and orbits etc.
  7. KimKim, I'm guessing that your Grey was not flighted to begin with? You mention that he takes a lap around the room. You might try regular flying sessons to get your Grey used to controlled flights so that when the startled flight comes along he is conditioned to his surroundings. We fly Greycie twice a day mainly to burn off some of her jet fuel and calm her down. She used to have a problem with our full width mirror on one of the walls but has learned it's not another room she can fly into.
  8. Your house must be a riot (in a good way). Two Greys and four GCCs - wow. I like that nickname, the Greybies. Definitely would like to see pics of the flock too.
  9. You're way ahead of where I was when I got my first Grey at 19!
  10. My Tigger (BFA) used to fluff his crest and head bob but he would also wildly swing his head in a circular-swivel pattern and his wings would be splayed. He was definitely getting himself overexcited and having a good time. Usually accompanied by loud head banging music from his hoomans too.
  11. Looking at the picture and it may just be the angle, it looks like that is more than just normal beak flaking. Looks like he is filing it away on something as it looks very squared off. Is he doing that himself?
  12. We had (still do to some extent) the same problem with our Greycie. She did not like my daughter (19) at first. She would actually bite her hard enough to break the skin whereas she has never done that with myself or my wife. If sitting on my daughters shoulder she would go after her ear or her cheek - so the sitting on my daughter's shoulder was stopped. Then she started the targeted hits, where she would fly and tap dance, as I call it, on my daughters head. Basically a touch and go (Greycie is flighted). Our problem was we had a pending trip for a couple weeks away and the primary caregiver was going to have to be my daughter. We couldn't have Greycie being mean and Kayla scared of Greycie while we went away. It involved training both of them. With Kayla, she made the mistake of harassing Greycie when we first got her. Big NO NO!!! I had to train this out of her as she got it from me. I'm a cat harasser and so is she. You have to treat birds differently. We worked on that and also dropping the fear. I'm pretty sure Greycie was picking up on the fear. With Greycie I had Kayla messing with her constantly while I was in close proximity. As much as I could I would have Kayla doing stuff with her and stopping any behavior out of either one that went off track. Eventually they got to where they could interact together enough that I felt safe leaving. The good news was, while away I was getting pictures of Greycie being indoctrinated into the midget squad as I call them (I know, not PC, sue me). Kayla got to where she could handle Greycie just as I do. When we got back a little bit of the redheaded stepchild treatment crept back into Greycie and some feelings got hurt but things are definitely better. I have to keep reminding Kayla we don't really know what Greycie's thinking - don't take it personally.
  13. We're siting at the top of the wait list for African Queen Aviary and unfortunately the Old World down in Austin doesn't breed them anymore. I contacted a bunch of breeders and most are giving me the line "we don't breed them any longer". I responded to a couple asking why so many people are not raising Jardine's any longer and couldnt get a good answer. They come close to being the perfect bird IMHO. Grey's, well, not so much haaahaa
  14. Sometimes you get this...they spend most of their days right next to each other. Of course they both come out swinging for the fence when another of the birds gets near.
  15. Sounds like our place - lots of critters. One of my worst fears is coming home and my house has burnt down with the birds inside. Pics of all the critters!
  16. The yellow tail threw me. I couldn't find a bird with a yellow tail to make a guess. QB Conures definitely have a yellow tail!
  17. Posting here is really a reach, but we're trying to find a baby Jardine's somewhere. I guess it's the wrong time of year or they're really dang hard to find. If you've seen one, or heard of one - post up. We're on a couple of wait lists but not looking promising.
  18. Doing what Greys do best: sharing the work load at meal time.
  19. Greycie thought of it for me....after destroying my suction cups
  20. Nice work. My only suggestion on the shower perch is to use it inverted before your Grey decides the suctions cups make great chew toys.
  21. Where did this come from? Oops first pic answered my question. Avian Organics!
  22. I read somewhere that even older, when the bird is naturally ready to part ways and find new beginnings is the best time to get a grey. What age that was slips by me but I seem to recall it was older than 'months' - so maybe it was a year or so. Maybe even just on the other side of the terrible twos? Either way, mine is 11mos and she's still exhibiting baby behavior but also showing new adult behaviors as well. I think as long as the Grey hasn't been mishandled you shouldn't have any excess baggage.
  23. Interestingly, I took BaileysPapa's advice to Amazon and the first thing that popped up was a toy making kit will a lot of the stuff you need all-in-one.
  24. I had forgotten about leather as Dan mentions. Our little Raven loved leather strips with knots tied in them and also the leather squares/circles etc(for lack of a better description). I need to find a place that sells it because we've take to hanging toys off of the tree with cotton string and leather is a lot safer for that purpose.
